 | | Domdaniel: <GufeldStudent> I missed whatever Whiteshark said -- maybe he removed it? Either way, the usual advice holds - forget it and move on. When I was relatively new here I got into a ferocious argument with somebody I now count as a friend. And I'm relatively placid, as these things go. The history of the AN game page is full of idle abuse and misunderstandings and folk storming off in a huff. Don't let it get to you. |

 | | Domdaniel: <All> I'm still looking for somebody to volunteer their forum for 20...Bf8 -- any takers? |

 | | Honza Cervenka: <Domdaniel> Another playable move can be 20...Rac8. click for larger viewI am opening my chessforum for discussion related to it. |

 | | Domdaniel: Thanks <Honza> - I'll add it to the list and make a public announcement. |
|
| Oct-27-06 | | GufeldStudent: I am not convinced that Thornson's line is good. The problem is that I think the N can go to d3, and we have a lot of lines where it ends up going from b4 to d5---the problem is that once we exchange on d5 out bishop is left out of play on b6. |
|
| Oct-27-06 | | GufeldStudent: Nevermind, I just saw the Rc3 and Rc7 line. The bishop internment is termporary in the main line. However, it is still something we should worry about in the sidelines. |

 | | Domdaniel: <GufeldStudent> You'll probably have worked out by now which people are most worth listening to. By general consensus, <Thorsson> and <Honza Cervenka> are probably our strongest players - both very experienced in master-level CC, with ratings to match. Of the rest, I can't say: there are maybe 20 of us with ratings over 2000, or with equivalent CC experience. There's certainly a good regular core of fairly strong analysts. Some people are good at blitz and internet chess, but less familiar with the requirements of a slower game like this. Quite a few of these have now got bored and dropped out, I suspect. And it might also be helpful sometime to dip randomly back into our 550+ pages of kibitzing on the game - <Tabanus> actually read through it all, when he arrived - not that long before you. But he's a professionally trained archivist - I wouldn't recommend the exercise to others. We have also developed a particular brand of humour - it reveals itself mostly thru irony, but there are also indulgences like the 'stupid' moves/votes, and occasional bouts of general hilarity. You may also spot regular imbeciles popping up on the game page with lines like "Yo, whose winning?" Sic. We've learned to ignore these. |

 | | Domdaniel: <GufeldStudent> I think I might start addressing you as <GS> or <Guf> soon. Just as <Random Visitor> - of Rybka and serious hardware fame - is universally known as <RV>. And people call me <dom>, etc. Saves time. As for our humour, I know your mentor Eddie used to enjoy jokes at the expense of non-chess journalists, for example. With lines like "Take this down - in the opinion of Grandmaster Gufeld, White has an extra pawn in the adjourned position". Which was duly reported, to his great amusement. And wasn't there a (true) story about playing soccer with Fischer, and chess with Pele - where a reporter switched the names around to 'correct' the apparent error? |

 | | OhioChessFan: <Domdaniel> if GMAN happens to make his move today, I would like to skip hosting a forum for our 21st move. Real life and all that. |
|
Oct-27-06
 | | Domdaniel: Thanks, Ohio, message received. Real life catches up with us all - I just had to do 3-4 hrs completely unexpected work after a call from my editor, and it might also leave me a bit overworked on Monday. But it's manageable. You've put phenomenal effort into this - you've certainly earned a break. I'll try to find a stand-in (not that anyone could... etc...etc). |
|
| Oct-27-06 | | RandomVisitor: You might want to mntion in your postings that I am presenting Rybka analysis of the likely moves in my forum heading. |

| Oct-27-06 | | Milo: Whose winning? |
|
| Oct-28-06 | | GufeldStudent: A little crude, but okay. I think you are right---I suspected that AN had a reason for playing his last move so fast and he has a reason for playing this one so slowly. I think he is afraid of the ending in the Bf8 line. I am working on analyzing your Nd1 move. We will have to do a lot of campagning for it if it turns out to be best since it is very subtle and anti-intuitive, but I think it is very strong. |

| Oct-28-06 | | monad: Goodmorning <DomDaddy> (Imitation Boss man)
It's 12.30 GMT, and you're not up yet!
Heavy night?
Anyways, just wanted to let you know that Thorsson has breathed new life into the dead position we are facing at the minute, thanks to his suggestion of <22.Nd1>. And as a consequence, I am suffering from opinions again. (see my forum bio)(I hear you sigh). If Arnie plays Bd8, I shall be ready for action. But will he? I won't host because of diminished social skills, but will provide boards. Take care.

 | | Domdaniel: Hi <Milo>
<whose winning?>
I won't answer that question if you use the word 'whose'. I'm pedantic about stuff like that. And even if you correctly ask <who is winning?> or <who's winning?> I can't give you an answer. Nobody nose. |

 | | Domdaniel: Good Arvo, <Monad>
No. Reading the Guardian comes before chess on Saturday mornings. Then and only then do I return to the fray. I never pretended to have Larker's 4am antipodean exuberance, did I? |
|
Oct-28-06
 | | OhioChessFan: 2 points for antipodean. |
|
| Oct-28-06 | | GufeldStudent: <Domdaniel>, are you English? I should have guessed if from the light sarcasm. However, one does not need to be English to read the guardian. (Bastards, how dare they fire Nigel Short!) Don't be too hard on that guy; grammar is inevitably going to suffer in a forum like this. |
|
Oct-28-06
 | | Domdaniel: <GufeldStudent> English? No, but I can speak it. Also dialects like Tazzie, Hiberno, and Murrican. <Monad> If you've seen to that gearbox, you might take a look at your Boredom Threshold settings. Me, I'd give anything for a nice dose of ennui. |
