<Format>:

[player]-[player] [result] [# of MOVES]

==4 Different Scoring Methods==

Standard Moves Ranker (1st place-Over[3pts], 1st place-Under [7pts], Exact [10pts])

Bonus Ranker (3rd place-Over[1pts],2nd place-Over[2pts],3rd place-Under [5pts], 2nd place-Under [6pts]

Standard Moves/Bonus Ranker [Add all to together]

1st place Ranker [how many 1st place you have in Standard Moves Ranker]

For example:

<Note: Participants 3, 4, and 5 are predicated on nobody scoring an exact as Participant 2 did. If someone hits an exact, the closest score under and over will score the points for second place.>

Actual Game: [player]-[player] 0-1 45

Participant 1: [player]-[player] 1/2 45
Participant 2: [player]-[player] 0-1 45
Participant 3: [player]-[player] 0-1 44
Participant 4: [player]-[player] 0-1 43
Participant 5: [player]-[player] 0-1 46

Participant 1: No points even though 45 is correct. Results must be correct. If Result is wrong and moves # is correct...you get no points whatsoever

Participant 2: 10 pts rewarded for correct Result/moves #

Participant 3: 7 pts rewarded for closest under (1st-Under) to 45 moves

Participant 4: 6 pts rewarded for the 2nd closest under (2nd-Under) to 45 moves.

Participant 5: 3 pts rewarded closest OVER(1st-OVER) to 45 moves.

Again, the description of Participant 3, 4, and 5 are based on there being no exact prediction as made by Participant 2.

<IF> there is an exact or an under closest, the highest scoring over participant will be 2nd over. The second closest over will be 3rd over. The <ONLY> time there will be a first over is if there is no exact or under winner.

Sep-15-11  Pyke: Oh, I am sorry then.

If you deleted the message that's another thing. I guess it shows how perceptions can easily be wrong.

Sorry to bother you.

Sep-15-11  hedgeh0g: <OCF> Debates and arguments on this site are delegated to the Rogoff and Goldsby pages respectively. You should know this better than anyone! :)

OhioChessFan: I say, old chap, to engage in ongoing shots at another group amongst only your <own kind> ? At some point that gets pretty tribal and really ugly.
Sep-15-11  hedgeh0g: It all depends on how you choose to respond to obnoxious and insulting posts, to be honest.
Sep-19-11  Shams: <OCF> Glad you caught "12 Angry Men", one of my favorites. The writer, Reginald Rose, served on a capital trial and wrote the play right after. Trivia: they tore down the walls of the jury room and rebuilt it, slightly smaller each time, several times during filming, just to keep the tension up.

Only 100 movies? Really?

OhioChessFan: Maybe fewer. If you exclude those for kids I've taken family/friends to, we might be talking half that. The fact I've never seen a Star Wars movie should give you an idea of my gross ignorance.

<The theory of which asteroid was responsible for killing the dinosaurs 65 million years ago has been shattered to pieces -- literally.

New data from NASA's WISE (Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer) satellite suggests that an asteroid from the Baptistina family was actually not -- as previously thought -- responsible for the mass extinction, NASA reported on Monday.>

Yawn.

OhioChessFan: <chessmoron> I think the header example is wrong. In a case where someone else gets an exact, the highest total for guessing 0-1 46 should be 2 points, not 3. Do you agree?
Sep-21-11  chessmoron: Yes I agree.

OhioChessFan: ** Moves Prediction Contest Announcement **

<chessmoron> is going to run a moves prediction contest for Bilbao. The first round is scheduled for Monday, September 26. There is always a battle to get the pairings in time for the first round, but we'll play that by ear.

tpstar: <OhioChessFan> Congratulations on your 15000th post! You and I are the only ones who celebrate the thousands. In the early days, there was a prevailing sentiment that the only time to mention post count was specifically on the thousands, with Beer for 1000 and Ale for 2000, yet both of those traditions are now antiquated.

Back in 2004, before any Premium Memberships, a few kibitzers (notably <PinkPanther> and <shr0pshire>) wanted the post count feature removed as they thought people with more posts were treated better by the Administrators, or that their opinions carried more weight. Even <acirce> wanted it dropped, and this was after he became the most frequent poster. But it endures. =)

Sep-23-11  hms123: <OCF> 15,000 posts! My goodness, that's a lot. You continue to make a great contribution to the site. Thanks.
Sep-23-11  dakgootje: Congrats on post 15-0-15! It has to have some special significance - but I fail to see it :)
Sep-23-11  hms123: <dak> Try 3*5*7*11*13. The first 5 odd primes all multiplied together. It might be bad so don't look too closely.
