<Format>:

[player]-[player] [result] [# of MOVES]

==4 Different Scoring Methods==

Standard Moves Ranker (1st place-Over[3pts], 1st place-Under [7pts], Exact [10pts])

Bonus Ranker (3rd place-Over[1pts],2nd place-Over[2pts],3rd place-Under [5pts], 2nd place-Under [6pts]

Standard Moves/Bonus Ranker [Add all to together]

1st place Ranker [how many 1st place you have in Standard Moves Ranker]

For example:

<Note: Participants 3, 4, and 5 are predicated on nobody scoring an exact as Participant 2 did. If someone hits an exact, the closest score under and over will score the points for second place.>

Actual Game: [player]-[player] 0-1 45

Participant 1: [player]-[player] 1/2 45
Participant 2: [player]-[player] 0-1 45
Participant 3: [player]-[player] 0-1 44
Participant 4: [player]-[player] 0-1 43
Participant 5: [player]-[player] 0-1 46

Participant 1: No points even though 45 is correct. Results must be correct. If Result is wrong and moves # is correct...you get no points whatsoever

Participant 2: 10 pts rewarded for correct Result/moves #

Participant 3: 7 pts rewarded for closest under (1st-Under) to 45 moves

Participant 4: 6 pts rewarded for the 2nd closest under (2nd-Under) to 45 moves.

Participant 5: 3 pts rewarded closest OVER(1st-OVER) to 45 moves.

Again, the description of Participant 3, 4, and 5 are based on there being no exact prediction as made by Participant 2.

<IF> there is an exact or an under closest, the highest scoring over participant will be 2nd over. The second closest over will be 3rd over. The <ONLY> time there will be a first over is if there is no exact or under winner.

Things To Look At:
1. Game Collection: 1975 World Junior chess championship
2. Ongoing edits Vladimir Ostrogsky
3. Bio Adolf Zytogorski
4. Complete the Olympiad
5. Bio Lorenz Maximilian Drabke

7. Baden-Baden (1870)

11. Karl Mayet
12. Smbat Lputian

Jun-13-14  WinKing: Congratulations to all of the medal winners! A fine performance turned in by <lostemperor>. He was 'in the zone' throughout.

Thanks to <chessmoron> for his tireless efforts. There were a few more players to keep track of in this event. <OCF> thanks for hosting. I know you will bounce back in the next event.

Jun-13-14  WinKing: 'Hall of Famers List' all Gold Medal totals - (**All 3 contests**) (Updated June 13, 2014) - See my forum.
Jun-13-14  PinnedPiece: Great contest, fellow enthusiasts.

A pleasure to see how its done from all you above me on the points ladder.

Appreciative nods to the one or two people who did worse than me.

Special congratulations (and thanks for the lessons) to the congregation of medal winners.

And hearty thanks to the hosts, who apparently do this for absolutely pure and unselfish motives.

lostemperor: Thanks <chessmoron> and <OhioChessFan> and for all congratulations. It was very tough competition again and very close till the end!

<WinKing: Hitting on four 'Exacts' ain't too shabby though <lostemperor>. You've been clicking on all cylinders here in this forum. ;)> To get an exact prediction is very hard. I just try to make an assesment and hope it will turn out that way. The first time I predict the amount of moves in a game was that of Kasparov vs Leko 2005 which I predicted to be a draw in 31 moves. There is a comment below refering to my original prediction. I forgot all about it and only look the other day to check the result Kasparov vs Leko, 2005 Since then this happens on numerous occasions but I am still startled as the first time every time it does :)

<Ohio>

I do understand you are reluctant to converse by email, but I do have a rare <non silly> topic I would really like to discuss with you in private. I have a cg.com-related idea I want to run by you "for your ears only."

If you agree, there is a simple way to protect your privacy-

Make a new, or "throwaway" email account.

Use that account to email me a "hello" at

jessicafischerqueen@yahoo.com

Then I just hit reply and we can have a secure one to one private conversation.

Anything you said to me would be ultra top secret private, never to be repeated or even alluded to elsewhere.

Again, the topic is not personal-it's strictly an idea about <cg.com> protocols and procedures, and I am seeking your opinion- and I want to ask you if you are willing to help me do something in particular.

Best regards,

Jess

I did ask you not to do this, but I can't bring myself to destroy anything written by you- so I put it here:

<OhioChessFan: Here's the deal. This project is not like the normal bio writing done. A year from now, if someone sees a problem in a bio, they can appeal to any editor and get it fixed. I did that this week with a small point in the So bio and it was fixed that day. It's been made clear with the WCC intros, there is one shot and one shot only to get it right. I don't agree that it hasn't worked. I've seen a lot of praise by the parties involved. I've seen no objections to it until the recent post <Annie> made. The fact is, Annie was <right> And <Karpova> totally blew off all the legitimate (fact based, not stylistic) issues <Annie> raised. Any person who could produce a sentence like this:

<Lasker called the win in game 5 fortunate and that Schlechter had really wanted to add a second win.>

frankly has no business telling other people they don't have the right to correct them.

So, that's what I think.>

Kindly respect my wishes about the WCC forum.

OhioChessFan: I went back and read the emails and didn't see that request but I could have deleted instead of saved one. Anyway, no problem. I stand by my thoughts.

  WCC Editing Project:

<Ohio> Thank you for replying- I felt a bit guilty, and I'm glad to see that this appears to be a mistake on my part. I thought I had made it clear, but I just reviewed our correspondence and you are correct.

I do respect you and your opinions, on this and all other matters, even when I don't agree with them.

This is because I respect you.

Also, as I told you in private, I do understand you taking a stand on any issue on a matter of principle.

  Annie K.: <Ohio> thank you. :)

I can start with reinstating some history that was lost to a fit of overzealous revisionism:

(url shortened from Google Cache - should that cache be cleared sometime, I have a copy on hard drive too, of course.)

I do have a few more thoughts, but let's see if our Comrades are interested. ;)

Jul-03-14  Boomie: <OCF and fellow members of the Soviet>

Whether the prior editing arrangement was a problem for the intro writers or not isn't important to me. The writers should work in the environment which is most productive for them. If that means working without editors, fine. I'm sure they will find most errors on their own. The finished product will be good enough for the purpose.

I assume we joined the Soviet to help the writers. I don't see how a conflict with them now helps.

OhioChessFan: I am not looking for conflict but resolution. Awaiting other thoughts.
Jul-03-14  Boomie: <OhioChessFan: I am not looking for conflict but resolution.>

Resolution of what? I don't know what you are talking about.

Jul-03-14  dakgootje: Going to have to think about this for a bit, as the opinions of Sir Elvis and Sir Boommaster both seem very reasonable.

Perhaps the matter boils down to whether the Soviet is 1. part of the editing team, or 2. support for the primary writers, to be used (or not) when desired. And which it should be.

But I'm not sure yet.
