<Format>:

[player]-[player] [result] [# of MOVES]

==4 Different Scoring Methods==

Standard Moves Ranker (1st place-Over[3pts], 1st place-Under [7pts], Exact [10pts])

Bonus Ranker (3rd place-Over[1pts],2nd place-Over[2pts],3rd place-Under [5pts], 2nd place-Under [6pts]

Standard Moves/Bonus Ranker [Add all to together]

1st place Ranker [how many 1st place you have in Standard Moves Ranker]

For example:

<Note: Participants 3, 4, and 5 are predicated on nobody scoring an exact as Participant 2 did. If someone hits an exact, the closest score under and over will score the points for second place.>

Actual Game: [player]-[player] 0-1 45

Participant 1: [player]-[player] 1/2 45
Participant 2: [player]-[player] 0-1 45
Participant 3: [player]-[player] 0-1 44
Participant 4: [player]-[player] 0-1 43
Participant 5: [player]-[player] 0-1 46

Participant 1: No points even though 45 is correct. Results must be correct. If Result is wrong and moves # is correct...you get no points whatsoever

Participant 2: 10 pts rewarded for correct Result/moves #

Participant 3: 7 pts rewarded for closest under (1st-Under) to 45 moves

Participant 4: 6 pts rewarded for the 2nd closest under (2nd-Under) to 45 moves.

Participant 5: 3 pts rewarded closest OVER(1st-OVER) to 45 moves.

Again, the description of Participant 3, 4, and 5 are based on there being no exact prediction as made by Participant 2.

<IF> there is an exact or an under closest, the highest scoring over participant will be 2nd over. The second closest over will be 3rd over. The <ONLY> time there will be a first over is if there is no exact or under winner.

Congratulations to all of the medal winners! What a great finish to the WCC 2018 contest. We had a 3-way tie for first. Congrats to <DerDiemer>, <offramp> & <SwitchingQuylthulg> all picking up a gold medal. All of these members hit milestones in the medal department. First, I would like to welcome <DerDiemer> into <chessmoron>'s Hall of Fame. This was his first gold medal ever in the prediction games. Well done <DerDiemer> may you win many more! Next, I would like to congratulate <offramp> on being the 16th member to make it onto the <Gold Leaderboard>. 10 Golds total, in all 3 contests, are needed for this prestigious award. Well done sir! Lastly, I would like to congratulate <SwitchingQuylthulg> on picking up his 35th Gold medal in this contest. He now has 58 Gold medals in all three contests which puts him at the top in the Gold department. Well done <Switch>!

  OhioChessFan: ** Final Recap **

The Chess World was stunned as our thrilling contest proved to be the best game in town. Unlike those pikers Carlsen and Caruana, with their measly two people tying, we had THREE people tie for the World Championship! Congratulations to <Switch>, <offramp>, and <DerDiemer> for their shared gold.

Asked to share their thoughts on their World Championship performance, <Switch> modestly said, "You know, I never get tired of all these gold medals I keep winning. I have a program that I follow and the results are obvious. I just love to come out on top and this contest is just the latest example of......." at which point <Switch> noticed <chessmoron> glaring at him, and quietly sat down. <offramp> showed his true competitive spirit as he expressed his disappointment at a shared gold instead of an outright gold, as he ranted, "Bloody bollocks, why couldn't those lazy wankers have played just 3 more moves!". <DerDiemer> modestly accepted his gold medal and enshrinement in the Moves Prediction Hall of Fame with a prediction that he'd win 96 more gold medals or something like that. To celebrate, he planned to eat kudzu biltong, which is apparently a vegetarian snack.

In other news, <chessmoron> accepted the congratulations of all the Chess World elites, as they complimented his decision not to have a blitz playoff. Fans were seen streaming from the arena after the awarding of our gold medals, with most people showing no interest in the Carlsen-Caruana tiebreaker. On the other hand, <chessmoron> was mocked for waiting until the tournament was over to reveal the scores of the latecomers. It was rumored he only did that to avoid ending up in last place alone.

Congratulations again to our gold medalists, and especially <DerDiemer> for his first ever gold and induction into the Moves Prediction Hall of Fame. Thanks to everyone for playing!

offramp: Many thanks to <OhioChessFan> and <chessmoron> for running this contest.

Well done, <DerDiemer>. I always knew you had it in you! I know you will win many more.

Great kudos to <SwitchHittingCthulhu> who is quite preternaturally prescient. One is tempted to suspect the machinations of the occult. I'm just lucky but he really seems to know what he is doing.

And thanks to all competitors!

Nov-27-18  DerDiemer: <Count Wedgemore: Congratulations to our South African friend <DerDiemer> for winning his first contest.>

Hehehe, you won't eat beef-patties again after a piece of Kudu or rooibok biltong ... the best rawmeat (naturally raw drymeat) :-)

Nov-27-18  DerDiemer: <Well done, <DerDiemer>. I always knew you had it in you! I know you will win many more.>

Tata Steel is a strong possibility. <chessmoron>?

Dec-02-18  DerDiemer: <Tata Steel is a strong possibility.>

Thanks <OCF> , according to Wiki thers's only going to be 3 games for the LCC .. Nakamura vs Caruana, Aronian vs Vachier-Lagrave and the final. Not much of a contest then.

Fusilli: Hi <OCF>, I know bad writing drives you nuts. I saw this and I thought of you:

https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/mo...

<Caruana, who learned chess at a local synagogue, was the first American to compete for the title since 1972, according to the New York Times.>

Ugh. He wasn't the first American to compete for the world title because the NYT says so... It's overwhelmingly known history! No need to credit the NYT for it!

OhioChessFan: Bad writing reminds you of me? I'll take it! It really wasn't until I found chessgames.com that I realized I could be really good at it if I tried. I had some thoughts back in college that I could be a decent sportswriter, but just never pursued it.

As for bad writing, alas, I have been known to engage in it myself. I don't often get called out on it, but I sometimes want to scream when I see some of the stuff I've written a day or two later.

As for your example, that sort of reads like a Wiki editor wrote it, and made a well intentioned effort to document the statement. I will also point out that it's indicative of someone who doesn't know the first thing about chess (or any other topic) to over cite the authorities, eg, "Elvis Presley, known as the King of Rock and Roll, according to Rolling Stone Magazine......"

Fusilli: <OhioChessFan: Bad writing reminds you of me?>

lol, not quite. Your distaste for it (which I share). Ironically, I just provided a pretty good example of bad writing myself!

I do that all the time(want to scream) when I see my stuff <OCF> a day or two later. There are many members here, where English is not their native language, that write better than I do.
