<Format>:

[player]-[player] [result] [# of MOVES]

==4 Different Scoring Methods==

Standard Moves Ranker (1st place-Over[3pts], 1st place-Under [7pts], Exact [10pts])

Bonus Ranker (3rd place-Over[1pts],2nd place-Over[2pts],3rd place-Under [5pts], 2nd place-Under [6pts]

Standard Moves/Bonus Ranker [Add all to together]

1st place Ranker [how many 1st place you have in Standard Moves Ranker]

For example:

<Note: Participants 3, 4, and 5 are predicated on nobody scoring an exact as Participant 2 did. If someone hits an exact, the closest score under and over will score the points for second place.>

Actual Game: [player]-[player] 0-1 45

Participant 1: [player]-[player] 1/2 45
Participant 2: [player]-[player] 0-1 45
Participant 3: [player]-[player] 0-1 44
Participant 4: [player]-[player] 0-1 43
Participant 5: [player]-[player] 0-1 46

Participant 1: No points even though 45 is correct. Results must be correct. If Result is wrong and moves # is correct...you get no points whatsoever

Participant 2: 10 pts rewarded for correct Result/moves #

Participant 3: 7 pts rewarded for closest under (1st-Under) to 45 moves

Participant 4: 6 pts rewarded for the 2nd closest under (2nd-Under) to 45 moves.

Participant 5: 3 pts rewarded closest OVER(1st-OVER) to 45 moves.

Again, the description of Participant 3, 4, and 5 are based on there being no exact prediction as made by Participant 2.

<IF> there is an exact or an under closest, the highest scoring over participant will be 2nd over. The second closest over will be 3rd over. The <ONLY> time there will be a first over is if there is no exact or under winner.

Phony Benoni: <chessmoron> Thanks for the hint. Now I just need to get the Notation right.

1. R-K6 ch RxR
2. Q-R6 ch K-Q4

(2...K-B2 or 2...K-Q2 allow 3.Q-R7 ch.)

3. Q-B4 ch K-Q3

(if 3...K-K4; 4.Q-B3 ch)

4. Q-B5 ch K-Q2

(Forced)

5. Q-R7 ch, and wins.

OhioChessFan: <oao2102> it came up in a live game discussion and a few of us offered some viewpoints here.
Aug-02-06  BishopofBlunder: For an overview of evolution, look no further than Jeff Goldblum (with an assist by Laura Dern) in "Jurassic Park":

"God creates dinosaurs. God destroys dinosaurs. God creates man. Man destroys God. Man creates dinosaurs."

"Dinosaurs eat man. Woman inherits the Earth."

Aug-03-06  chessmoron: Is this puzzle when black blundered a move? It looks like a draw to me.

WannaBe: <OhioChessFan> I am at a loss here, black have 1...f1=Q and I don't see a way for white to stop it.

Then I put the position into my computer, and it's line is even more confusing! I give up chess, I'm going back to Rock-Paper-Scissors.

OhioChessFan: AUGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH. Sorry, <Wannabe> and <ChessMoron>. It IS a draw. I am going to delete that post and repost it below so I don't send any more people out running with Rocks, Scissors and Papers.

OhioChessFan: Another Troitzki puzzle I mistakenly stated was White to play and win. It is White to play and DRAW. I imagine right now <ChessMoron> is yelling DOH! at me, and <Wannabe> is looking for an ice pick.

  Phony Benoni: How about 1.Rd5? If 1...Kxd5 2.Nf5 f1Q (else 3.Ng3) 3.Ne3+.

Or 1.Rd5 f1Q 2.Rd4+ Kxd4 (Forced!) 3.Nf5+ and any king move allows a knight fork winning the queen.

1.Rd5 Nd3 (to stop 2.Rd1) 2.Nf5, and the check on e3 saves White again.

It's miraculous how the White knight can control the action from so far away!

OhioChessFan: Well done, <PhonyBenoni> That Knight on g7 looks like it's totally out of the action but is the game saver for White.

WannaBe: Tomorrow is the marks the passing of Elvis. L.A. radio station have declared tomorrow to be Elvis day.
Aug-15-06  TIMER: <chessmoron> You are correct: 1 Bf1 only draws, but 1 Bd5 wins (however you should really state the whole line, it has some intricacies)

OhioChessFan: I recall the day Elvis died. I had been in Columbus for the State Fair. I was riding back home and heard Nick Clooney, a local newscaster and George's dad, say on the radio, "The King of Rock and Roll is dead." That night they showed all the people outside Graceland on the TV news. Sort of odd that people couldn't even leave the man alone when he was dead.
Aug-17-06  YouRang: You know the "rule of threes"? Between August & October of 1977, three giants of the entertainment world died. Elvis was one of them. (In fact, there are four if you want to include December 1977.)

Anyone want to guess who they are? I'll post the answer at 7:00pm EST if nobody gets it. :-)
