<Format>:

[player]-[player] [result] [# of MOVES]

==4 Different Scoring Methods==

Standard Moves Ranker (1st place-Over[3pts], 1st place-Under [7pts], Exact [10pts])

Bonus Ranker (3rd place-Over[1pts],2nd place-Over[2pts],3rd place-Under [5pts], 2nd place-Under [6pts]

Standard Moves/Bonus Ranker [Add all to together]

1st place Ranker [how many 1st place you have in Standard Moves Ranker]

For example:

<Note: Participants 3, 4, and 5 are predicated on nobody scoring an exact as Participant 2 did. If someone hits an exact, the closest score under and over will score the points for second place.>

Actual Game: [player]-[player] 0-1 45

Participant 1: [player]-[player] 1/2 45
Participant 2: [player]-[player] 0-1 45
Participant 3: [player]-[player] 0-1 44
Participant 4: [player]-[player] 0-1 43
Participant 5: [player]-[player] 0-1 46

Participant 1: No points even though 45 is correct. Results must be correct. If Result is wrong and moves # is correct...you get no points whatsoever

Participant 2: 10 pts rewarded for correct Result/moves #

Participant 3: 7 pts rewarded for closest under (1st-Under) to 45 moves

Participant 4: 6 pts rewarded for the 2nd closest under (2nd-Under) to 45 moves.

Participant 5: 3 pts rewarded closest OVER(1st-OVER) to 45 moves.

Again, the description of Participant 3, 4, and 5 are based on there being no exact prediction as made by Participant 2.

<IF> there is an exact or an under closest, the highest scoring over participant will be 2nd over. The second closest over will be 3rd over. The <ONLY> time there will be a first over is if there is no exact or under winner.

  OhioChessFan: **Round 7 Recap**
The action in this contest is more exciting than Tata Steel itself, as the players keep making silly mistakes to allow Carlsen to win. Dubov livened things up by refusing to play "on principle". Yeah, tell the bank you can't make your car payment this month because you didn't get paid because of acting "on principle".

As for our contest, <lostemperor> and <Pengo> lead 2 Rankers each. They are smashing the rest of the field, but our contestants are keeping stiff upper lips and hoping something will get better. On a related note, <OhioChessFan> and <paavoh> and <Keyser> were all whining at <GE's> contest about how bad they were doing. <Pengo> inexplicably gave <OCF> a pep talk worthy of Knute Rockne, although, obviously, much longer than Knute ever talked. In any case, <it worked!> <OCF> has been on a tear since then and had ridiculous hopes of earning a medal. As if. In any case, <OCF> knows better than to credit <Pengo>, as he'd be treated to an hour long speech explaining why he did what he did.

In other news, <paavoh> made the silly mistake of listening to advice from <OCF> and his wife immediately made him start sleeping in the doghouse. <OCF> denies all cuplability. <jfq> is still obsessing over <The Monkey> and apparently doesn't know that it's not a real user. <OCF> tried to dissuade <chessmoron> from counting Dubov's forfeit, but <cm> decided "on principle", cough, cough, to include it in our contest scoring. The fact that <cm> had picked Giri to win that game had no, cough, cough, <NO> bearing on the decision. <Winky> is trying to win some kind of "Nice Guy on Chessgames.com" award, by pretending to warn people they haven't made their picks. Of course, he waits until the round starts, so he looks good but really isn't hurting his own chances. <OCF> admires that kind of creative thinking.

With all the excitement, we need a break. <chessmoron> told the Tata organizers to give everyone a day off. Of course, they were smart enough to agree. Our contestants will rest up and come back fired up for the second half of our contest on Tuesday.

OhioChessFan: Just in case anyone was wondering about the infamous Queens on an NxN board:

Michael Simkin, a postdoctoral fellow at the Center of Mathematical Sciences and Applications, calculated that there are about (0.143n)n ways the queens can be placed so none are attacking each other on giant n-by-n chessboards.
