<Format>:

[player]-[player] [result] [# of MOVES]

==4 Different Scoring Methods==

Standard Moves Ranker (1st place-Over[3pts], 1st place-Under [7pts], Exact [10pts])

Bonus Ranker (3rd place-Over[1pts],2nd place-Over[2pts],3rd place-Under [5pts], 2nd place-Under [6pts]

Standard Moves/Bonus Ranker [Add all to together]

1st place Ranker [how many 1st place you have in Standard Moves Ranker]

For example:

<Note: Participants 3, 4, and 5 are predicated on nobody scoring an exact as Participant 2 did. If someone hits an exact, the closest score under and over will score the points for second place.>

Actual Game: [player]-[player] 0-1 45

Participant 1: [player]-[player] 1/2 45
Participant 2: [player]-[player] 0-1 45
Participant 3: [player]-[player] 0-1 44
Participant 4: [player]-[player] 0-1 43
Participant 5: [player]-[player] 0-1 46

Participant 1: No points even though 45 is correct. Results must be correct. If Result is wrong and moves # is correct...you get no points whatsoever

Participant 2: 10 pts rewarded for correct Result/moves #

Participant 3: 7 pts rewarded for closest under (1st-Under) to 45 moves

Participant 4: 6 pts rewarded for the 2nd closest under (2nd-Under) to 45 moves.

Participant 5: 3 pts rewarded closest OVER(1st-OVER) to 45 moves.

Again, the description of Participant 3, 4, and 5 are based on there being no exact prediction as made by Participant 2.

<IF> there is an exact or an under closest, the highest scoring over participant will be 2nd over. The second closest over will be 3rd over. The <ONLY> time there will be a first over is if there is no exact or under winner.

Penguincw: The other day I hinted that I found a scoring error from a few rounds ago but was wondering if it was too late to call out. Well, now it's even later, so might as well:

For Round 4, in the Niemann vs. Firouzja game (OhioChessFan chessforum (kibitz #21336)) which ended in a 43 move draw, <Firouzjias> got credit for a draw in 44, but in reality, he predicted "0-1 41" for that game.

(it was the only game that round he did <not> predict draw in 44, hence the error - the post is here: OhioChessFan chessforum (kibitz #21329))

<paavoh> who predicted draw in 55 should've gotten the 2nd over, while <whiteshark> who got draw in 60 should get the 3rd over.

Also, since <Firouzjias> was one of 6 people to predict 3/4 games right that round, but in reality it's only 2/4 right, that means the 10 points that round is only split 5 ways.

  OhioChessFan: ** Round 7 Recap **

The entire universe seems to be in turmoil, all fueled by this contest. <whiteshark> and <Pengo> lead 2 Rankers each, with a zillion other people close behind. An unnoticed bit of good news was that our final 0 came off the scoreboard.

In other new, <Pengo> tried to explain to everyone else why his previous explanation to everyone else about the 10 point bonus was wrong. He admitted he didn't know what he was talking about, but then talked about it for like a half hour about what he thinks it does mean. Inevitably, that explanation will turn out to be wrong too. <chessmoron> was seen in the audience holding his head and asking, "Why me, Lord?" <Messiah> has been leading calls for Carlsen to explain himself, although it appears that's not going to happen. <whiteshark> had some convoluted idea about whether Carlsen's games should count and maybe we should wait until after the tournament to see, and if he was still leading a Ranker, then clearly nothing should change. <chessmoron> was seen sadly shaking his head in response.

Meanwhile, <offramp> predicted Alejandro Ramirez to win a game and he's not even in the tournament. Nobody has figured it out yet. <GE> apparently has "stuff" going on today, and word on the street is that he's helping Carlsen prepare an explanation for his behavior. <Pengo> asked the philosophical question, "How soon is soon?" Nobody was interested, although we're sure to see like a 5000 word answer from <Pengo> in the near future. <OCF> is doing so bad he doesn't really care how anyone else is doing, so he's not a bit interested inn the answer.

We're getting closer and closer to the end of our stunning tournament. Much fame and fortune rides on the next 2 rounds. Can <whiteshark> and <Pengo> hold on to the lead? Can <chessmoron> hold on to his sanity? How many roads must a man walk down before it's considered soon? Stay tuned for the answers to these and many other pressing questions. 2 rounds to go.
