Jun-29-19 | | Messiah: Hello, numerous player profiles are missing the most notable games. For example, seeing that Vladimir Kramnik never played important games, is painful. |
|
Jul-22-19 | | diagonal: I want to underline the observation of <Messiah>: There are now 8 World Champions who have lost their NOTABLE GAMES, NOTABLE TOURNAMENTS, and GAME COLLECTIONS, namely <Steinitz, Lasker, Capablanca, Alekhine, Botvinnik, Smyslov, Tal, Kramnik> (as of today) That means, since last week-end (Tal is the latest victim), exactly half of the World Champions have no longer a cg. notable game and tournament collections. <Morphy, Tarrasch, Bogoljubov, Flohr, Fine, Bronstein, Geller, Reshevsky, Gligoric, Ivkov, Panno, Olafsson, Uhlmann, Timman, Ivanchuk, Mamedyarov, Nakamura, or Wesley So>, are amongst many other prominent players missing the most notable games. Dear <Sargon>, can you repair these Chessgames profile features on the corresponding sites? Many thanks! |

 | | Sargon: <Messiah: Missing the notable games and the https protocol are really painful.> “Notable Games” and related items should be cleared up/restored very soon. This is one of the more sparsely-documented features, but we’ll be wrapping up the fix forthwith. You’re correct that switching to full https is long overdue, and we have been assiduously planning for the transition. Our diligent research indicates that there should be no significant impact on server load, so we’re basically ready to go, and we expect to <take the plunge into serving 100% https within the next few days>. It's been a major challenge over the last 12 months getting up to speed on 15+ years of Dan's tireless work—especially with many areas simply not documented adequately. For my part, <I sincerely apologize for any perceived personal or professional shortcomings>, but I can assure all members that there are many exciting improvements that are steadily reaching their full maturity. So on behalf of the entire staff, <we extend to everyone our most heartfelt thanks for their patience, perseverance, and positivity> during this most regrettable and unexpected phase for Chessagames.com. |

Aug-21-19 | | Nisjesram: <sargon > <i confess that I’m generally so busy that <I've sometimes neglected to check the “blow the whistle” page>. In addition to this forum or the cafe, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to mention these issues on <my user forum>, which I’m now reviewing regularly.> Ok.
<moronovich: And the midget has found another chair > Talking about systematic antagonism - this guy <moronovich> has been obsessed with me for years . I don't even know that he exists unless he comes on rogoff to call me midget - for years he has been using this personal attack for me "midget has found new chair " and such . If you guys have search facility , you can check this out. He hardly posts in rogoff forum. If you search his posts in rogoff forum , perhaps , majority of his posts would be attacking me "midget has found a new chair " and such. Admins , should he not be suspended?
I would say That enough is enough.
Thank you . Regards.

Hello, everyone. It turns out that there is an <undocumented feature> in the script which creates the "Notable [...]” blocks: A significant number of matches had their <names changed by the Editors> in an effort to “normalize” their appearance in the WC Match list (see History of the World Chess Championship), and the text files which contain the computed “Notable” blocks—and thus the <old match titles>—caused a comparison mismatch with the <new match titles>, which resulted a fatal script error. The problem cleared up once the old WC Match names were brought into harmony with the new ones. To summarize, <the “Notables" feature needs some modest reengineering> to avoid this issue moving forward, and we’ve added it to our list of needed improvements... |
|
Aug-26-19
 | | Sargon: The “Missing Notables” issue should now be cleared up for the most part—at least for all players rated 2400 and above, as well as any pre-elo era players of comparable strength or better. If anyone notices additional missing items from the “Notables” feature, please post a message here and/or on the chessgames.com chessforum and we’ll attend to it—before the end of time itself... |

 | | Sargon: I belatedly commend <Punnery Sergeant Lossmaster> on his recent promotion—the formal announcement of which had not been made as of yet—retroactive to the date specified below. The current cadre of NCO’s in the <Army of Pun>—each holding the rank of <Punnery Sergeant>, and in order of seniority—is as follows: <HeMateMe> (2019-07-04)
<OhioChessFan> (2019-07-15)
<sneaky pete> (2019-08-02)
<Lossmaster> (2019-08-03)
<LivBlockade> (2019-08-31)
<All NCO's enjoy the right to nominate for promotion any soldier of subordinate rank>, and I enthusiastically welcome their participation in that process... |

As mentioned previously, one privilege enjoyed by Punnery Sergeants is that of nominating a worthy <Private First Sass> for promotion, so I formally invite all NCO's to do so... |

Just now seeing this post for the first time.
I am honored.
But I stand firm in my opinion (rendered at today's GOTD), that you and I (and everyone else) are not at the rank achieved by Master Sergeant Punners <Phony Benoni>, <OCF> and <FSR>. So in spite of the fact <FSR> has been quite snarky to me on occasions, for the simple offense of asking a question, I am quite similar to President Lincoln in one way. I do not allow personal rancor to cloud my judgement of another person's ability. <FSR> should have as high of a rank as <OCF> and <Phony Benoni>, in the discipline of punnery. Merry Christmas to all, and to all a Strong Knight! |
|
Dec-25-19
 | | OhioChessFan: I hadn't noticed <FSR> wasn't on the list, so I second that motion. And I humbly agree that <PB>, <FSR> and I are the 3 best punsters. |
|
Dec-26-19
 | | FSR: Thanks, <tga>. I don't really recall my snarkery toward you, but my apologies. |
|
Dec-26-19 | | thegoodanarchist: <FSR> When I asked you why you think Svidler is in the same class as Carlsen. It was a sincere question on my part, but you replied in a rude way. But no worries, apology accepted.
And I have to borrow "snarkery" from you - it's a good one. |
|
Dec-29-19
 | | FSR: Chessgames.com has used 142 of my puns, so I like to think that I'm pretty good in that area. Game Collection: Puns I submitted I have reason to believe that my greatest pun ever (maybe anyone's greatest pun ever) will be unveiled tonight. |
