Susan Freeman: Today, my son would have been 52. RIP. Demetrius Cross, AKA Daniel Freeman, AKA "Sonny",(my name for him). This site has carried on, with the help of so many! We have stubbed our toes along the way, especially in the aftershock of picking up the pieces. Thank you all for your support and patience. What makes CG great is YOU, the members.

Hello everyone.
Just to set the record straight. Annie was NOT a paid employee. Neither was Twinlark It was an act of love, love for Chessgames.com and love for the game of Chess. I must add, and out of profound respect for my son Daniel too. And I want to thank <Jess> and all the other helpers, many of whom I do not know yet Onward and upward in 2020.
Jan-24-20  fraternitybrother: <Susan> I just now learned of Daniel's death. I let his fraternity chapter and international office know of his passing, as they were not yet aware. My sincerest condolences. I had thought of him from time to time, and even tried to seek him out to make contact. Since I wasn't aware that he had changed his name, I never found him.

There is a tradition of returning a brother's badge (pin) to the international office if there is not a family member who wishes to keep it for sentimental reasons.

The badge would be a diamond shaped pin with the greek letters Psi and Upsilon on it. If it happens that Daniel's fraternity badge was among his effects, and it would also be in your joy to return it to his brothers' keeping, you may contact Psi Upsilon or simply send it to them with a note.

Thank you and best wishes.

Susan Freeman: Some anecdotes from Daniel when he was young. There are a few as an adult, but they might be too provocative to reveal here.

Age 2 years: teaching him right and left. I sat opposite him and asked him to put the red block in my right hand. He picked up the red block and did it correctly. Most 2 year old would not have reversed it

Grade school: art teacher put an Apple on his desk and asked the class to draw it. Daniel said * take a bite out of it. It will be more interesting *

Me: hey Danny. Want to go get a pizza?
D: sure. What have I got to lose.

After I scolded him for something: mother, you may think I am crying, but actually I have a foreign object in my eye.

Danny, do you believe in UFOs?
Danny: I believe in flying objects. I don’t know about the unidentified ones.

At age 6 getting our passport pictures taken he suddenly goes into downward dog at the photographer’s. I asked what on earth he was doing. His reply was: getting ready for this very significant photograph.

He became disturbed about the rubber alligator in his room. So he cut off the top jaw. Problem solved

I was missing a large turkey from my fridge one day that I was going to prepare for a dinner party . I found him riding it like a horse in his bedroom. Cowboy hat and all

At a soccer game one day a player bounced the ball off his head and scored! Daniel: that’s what you call using your head.

I could go on and on

Jul-24-20  thegoodanarchist: <moronovich: Thanks for all the good stories <<<Susan>>> !

He sounds like a very bright kid.>

Indeed. Then there is this:

<mckmac: <<<Susan>>> So good to hear these wonderful memories of dear Daniel. He is sorely missed.>

Please allow me to echo these sentiments. From what <Susan> has posted, Daniel was obviously precocious and also very congenial.

But we all knew he was congenial, from our time interacting with him here, at his brainchild of a website.

My favorite?

<At age 6 getting our passport pictures taken he suddenly goes into downward dog at the photographer’s. I asked what on earth he was doing. His reply was: getting ready for this very significant photograph. >

So glad you shared these anecdotes! He was brilliant, for certain.

Susan Freeman: Another funny: when he was about 10 years old he was prank calling, like kids often do. He dialed MORONIC and got a law firm. He explained to the receptionist * Do you know that when you dial MORONIC you get your number?* The receptionist laughed and said she did not know that but would let the attorneys know right away. She was certain they would love to know. Never a dull moment with Daniel 😊
