The Caissars: Thank you for participating in the 2019 Caissars! We apologize for the very delayed start, which probably contributed to the difficulty of selecting deserving candidates, and will do our best to run the Caissars at the beginning of January in the future. <And now here are ...

The Caissars: You folks have won two Caissars this year: "Most Productive" and "Best Historian(s)". Congraulations; the CG community does not overlook your valiant contributions.

OhioChessFan: I forgot the magnificent pun "No Country For Old Men" which might be better than the 2 co-winners this year, and was the only 5 star entry from the membership that year.

SwitchingQuylthulg: <puns> As an addendum to the list above, quite a few people unofficially voted for Best/Worst Pun in 2005; Yanofsky vs J Therien, 1947 ("I concede clearly now; Therien is gone.") had the most supporters, but was not officially declared a Caissar winner.

E Torre vs Tarjan, 1983 ("Me Tarjan, Eugene!") received some support despite not being a 2005 pun; it would probably have won in 2004 if the category had existed then (though it was originally used in 2003 and reused in 2004). Chiburdanidze vs Panno, 1992 ("I Wish I was an Oscar-Maia Winner") is another classic 2004 pun.

Check It Out: Nice list, <Golden Executive>! Your most constructive trophy is well deserved.

offramp: I think the <"Caissars"> need a bouleversement.

<1. BEST AVATAR> and <2. BEST USERNAME>

These are a waste of time. I can just about see Best Username as being interesting. There is a problem with Best Avatar in that (a) people change avatars and (b) if someone ceases being a premium member the avatar disappears. So a punter might click to have a look at last year's winner to see a big blank.

<3. MOST HELPFUL> This can probably stay.

<4. BEST POST> Perhaps the nominees should be anyone from the Memorable Quotes chessforum plus any wildcard nominees.

<5. FUNNIEST POSTER> This can stay. But it should be moved down to be next to Best / Worst Pun

<6. MOST CONSTRUCTIVE> I have never understood this. How is it different to <most helpful>?

<7. BEST PROFILE> A complete waste of time. Profiles are always changing. And is one supposed to examine them all before nominating?

<8. BEST ANALYSIS> This is just too vague. If it was <Best <single> analysis>, like <best post> it might make sense. But most analysis is just GIGO from Stockfish that no one understands. It can be poncified, but so what?

<9. BEST GAME COLLECTION> I'd love to know how many game collections there are. Individual members have 100s! We are expected to look through them all?? In any case, doesn't Phoney Benoni win every year with his collection of GsOTD?

<10. MOST INFORMED> This can stay. I don't know what it means, but it can stay.

<11. BEST HISTORIAN> Very very cronyish; 90% of the cg.com members will have no idea what is being voted on, but I think it can stay.

<12. BEST (WORST) PUN OF THE YEAR> This can stay, as it is easy to look up, using the winner of <Best game collection>.

<13. PLAYER OF THE YEAR> I am sure the winner is delighted and honoured to win this, so this can stay.

<14. GAME OF THE YEAR> This can stay as well.

But what about replacements? I think that members should be canvassed about what awards should be on offer. Also, there should be THREE votes every day with no rest day. <A single nomination makes a Candidate.>

  offramp: <BEST NEWCOMER>.

<BEST NEW TOURNAMENT/MATCH PAGE>.

<BEST GAME ANALYSIS/COMMENTARY of 201x>.

<MOST INTERESTING LIVE BROADCAST GAME> [with a list].

<BEST HISTORIAN> with voting restricted and compulsory to cg.com historians.

I am sure I can think of some more.

WannaBe: <offramp> The difference between helpful and constructive:

Helpful - How do I post a picture of the board and pieces (FEN), where do I submit a game not in the database, ChessViewer Deluxe II is not working.

Constructive - Name pronounciations (<Annie K.>), offering ideas that make the site and its page easier to navigate, correcting errors or grammar in players' bio. etc.

offramp: <WannaBe> that is very good. Do you think that that difference should be specified at next year's "<"Caissar's">", so as to assist the new voters?

WannaBe: <offramp> New voters can always ask for clarifications.

Who's hold them back from asking?!

offramp: <WannaBe: <offramp> New voters can always ask for clarifications. Who's hold them back from asking?!>

That is a good point. This year I did see lots of new voters seeking clarification on various issues. They are like that. Very forward.

offramp: The problem with <7. BEST PROFILE> and <BEST AVATAR> is that the poor guy or gal that wins it may feel that he or she should not change his or her award-winning avatar or profile for fear of antagonistically disenfranchising the fanirmods.

...Another problem is that it is not specified that the collection should come from THIS year. Does it?

May-30-16  TheFocus: <offramp> <We are expected to look through them all?? In any case, doesn't Phoney Benoni win every year with his collection of GsOTD?>

Not every year. Heck, I won once.

I agree. I think that 9. BEST GAME COLLECTION has to go.

A good alternative might be "Best Collection of Games Collections", although even then the award might go to a retired/missing/dead kibitzer.

A more modern idea would be "BEST EVENT INTRODUCTION (or PAGE)" with a shortlist of ~10 events which have been given their own pages in 2016 chosen by members/habitués of the Biographer's B****o.

If a game collection has been converted into a tournament/match page, is it still electable?

OhioChessFan: Best Game Collection and Player of the Year could both be eliminated and I don't think anyone would object.
