TheAlchemist: Thank you, you too!

Dec-09-24 Ding Liren vs D Gukesh, 2024 (replies)

TheAlchemist: The genius of Ding's play to me was how (except Nb5) he made moves solely on his own half of the board and in 25 moves he completely outplayed Gukesh.

TheAlchemist: White played a seemingly clever sacrifice, but the refutation on move 25 was simply stunning

TheAlchemist: <goodevans: Will we have another Milan-based pun tomorrow when its two big football teams face each other in the Champions League Semi-Final? https://www.uefa.com/uefachampionsl... It's a huge reach, but you could call it even timelier. Unfortunately Slovaks call it ...

Apr-19-07  Zebra: I confirm my vote for Rxf7 too. Thanks for the analysis guys. I will continue to be busy for another week at least, but will try to follow as best I can.

  TheAlchemist: 23...Rxf7 posted.
Apr-20-07  hitman84: I'm sorry wont be able to continue, I quit.
Apr-21-07  chessmoron: <TheAlchemist> See my forum if you're are interested in prediction contest.
Apr-21-07  Zebra: white has played 24.fxe4.
Apr-21-07  Marco65: <Zebra> Losing the match for irregular move :-)
Apr-21-07  Marco65: Are there alternatives to 24...Nxe5? I don't find any

TheAlchemist: Ok, Nxe5. We could play it tomorrow?
Apr-21-07  chessmoron: 24...Nxe5 is too obvious. Our 26 move may be our key move to hold this position.
Apr-21-07  mckmac: So White played 24.fxe5,move made and noted.
Apr-21-07  Marco65: <TheAlchemist> you, chessmoron, I already decided, others probably think it's too obvious to need to express consensus, in any case it's already a majority! Post whenever is convenient for you.
Apr-21-07  mckmac: <TheAlchemist> I agree with you and would like to second <Marco's> last post.
Apr-22-07  Zebra: I also think Nxe5 is as good as forced. Play it whenever you like.
Apr-23-07  Dr.Lecter: If <farrooj> ever visits this site, I want to compliment him on that website on his profile. Hilarious!

TheAlchemist: <Dr.Lecter> I think he might make a stop at Beer. I hope he drops by soon too.
Apr-24-07  Marco65: <mckmac> You know, I didn't get your joke about a MFO's cunning plan in brankat's forum...
Apr-24-07  mckmac: <Marco65> Oh dear, I was not really making a joke at all.I was asking a question. Just had a bit of time tonight and was wondering if you had any strong feelings as to what White's next move (i.e.'cunning plan') might be. I am interested if you do have thoughts (i.e.'suspicions').I am going to be very busy later in the week.

I must stop using expressions that are particular to the English language and my own culture when speaking across languages and cultures. It's hard enough just managing to be generally clear and easily understood.I'll try to remember this next time I try to be a little bit light-hearted and humorous here.Meanwhile,we press on in this extremely enjoyable, open and friendly exercise.

Apr-24-07  Marco65: <mckmac> I see, now I read your post again and it was really obvious, so no need for you to excuse. I just thought it had to be related to what I wrote before, so I was completely out of track!

Actually we thought as 25.Rhf1 as the only reply, because it both attacks and subtracts the rook from the attack of our bishop. But of course other moves are possible.

After 25.Rdf1 or 25.Qf2, 25...d5 shoud work as well. It's 25.Qxb4 that worries me a little.

After 25.Qxb4 d5?! 26.Qxe4 dxe4 27.Rxd8+ Rxd8 they will get back the exchange at their ease and I think they'll be better in the endgame.

While 25.Qxb4 Nd3+ 26.Rxd3 Bxd3 (or 26...Bxh1, what is better?) should be fine enough for us.

25.Bd4 can be met by 25...Nf3 because 26.Qf4?? Bg5 doesn't work

Finally, I wonder our best reply to 25.Qd4, this prevents ...d5 almost forever keeping intact their attack, should we take the rook?

So many choices that it will be too much effort to calculate everything now, if I were otb I would go for the bathroom now!

Similarly, I prefer to wait for their move now, but you're more than welcome to do analysis if you have more time... Thanks

Apr-24-07  mckmac: <Marco> What went before...I should have thought of that! Thanks for the very good overview again--this next move is a little like a new verse in a still to be written song..ahem,that's me done for the day for sure.
Apr-24-07  mckmac: <Team> Sorry guys,I will be out of town for the next four days and have just found out--no I.T. access.Play good now.

:-)

  TheAlchemist: 25.Nb6 has been played
Apr-25-07  chessmoron: How about 25...Rc6 26.Rf1 Qe8 or the line I did on page 74? 25...d5 looks a bit scary.
Apr-26-07  Marco65: I didn't expect Nb6 so early. I also think 25...Rc6 is almost forced. 25...d5 loses the exchange to 26.Nxc8 Bxh1 27.Rxh1 Qxc8 28.Bxd5.

After 25...Rc6 26.Rhf1 Qe8 (as chessmoron proposes) might be played although b4 is en prise, or 26...d5 27.Nxd5 Nd3+ that is a safer way to give back the pawn imo.

25...Rc6 26.Qd4 is another good option for them, with the queen out of d2 c2 can be protected so we have to hurry to take on h1 and try to keep the extra pawn or we have nothing!

Apr-26-07  Marco65: Who can update the analysis board on GameKnot?

Notice how after 25...Rc6 27.Rhf1!? Rxb6? 27.Bxb6 Qxb6 28.Bxf7+ Nxf7 White ends an exchange up by 29.Rxf7! Kxf7 30.Qf4+

While I found that 25...Rc6 27.Nd5 is another good option for them, Nxb4 would be sad for us, so I think we'll have to play 27...a5 27.Rhf1 [27.Nxe7+ Qxe7 28.Rhf1 d5 29.Bxd5 Rxc2+ 30.Qxc2 Bxc2 31.Kxc2 Qc7+ 32.Kb1 h6 is unclear to me] 27...Kh8

click for larger view

at a first look the discovery on f7 seems dangerous but I couldn't find a way for White to win (e.g. 28.Nxb4?? Rxf1 29.Nxc6 Rxd1+ 30.Qxd1 Bxc6 , or 28.Rxf7 Nxf7 29.Nxb4? axb4 30.Bxf7 Rxc2+ 31.Qxc2 Bxc2 32.Kxc2 ), so maybe this is the way to go against 27.Nd5

Apr-26-07  Marco65: <mckmac> We'll try to resist 4 days, but be back asap!
