TheAlchemist: The genius of Ding's play to me was how (except Nb5) he made moves solely on his own half of the board and in 25 moves he completely outplayed Gukesh.

TheAlchemist: I'm actually more concerned with 26...Qe8 27.Rxf7 Nxf7 28.Nd5 (28.Ba4 is possible too, actually likely, why not win an exchange?) Rc8 29.Rf1, we are forced to play 29...Bxd5 30.Bxd5 Bf6 31.Bd4 and here i think we are in trouble.
Apr-29-07  Zebra: Is Bf6 worth looking at here? Besides blocking the file it makes Nd3 more of a threat, and keeps the pressure on the white knight.

  TheAlchemist: <Zebra> Probably 26...Bf6 27.Qxb4 Bf3 28.Bxf7 Kxf7 29.Rd2
Apr-29-07  mckmac: <Zebra> <TheAlchemist> : <Is Bf6 worth looking at here?> 27.Nd5 seems strong here.
Apr-29-07  Marco65: Sorry I'm out of town and I didn't realize they already moved. I hope to catch up with team's analysis tonight.

But about ...Qe8, what after their Qd4? It wins the exchange imo

Apr-29-07  Marco65: I'm for 26...d5 all the same. 27.Nxd5 Kh8 28.Nxb4 Qxd2+ 29.Bxd2 Rxf1 30.Rxf1 "only" loses a pawn

Apr-29-07  Marco65: Also 26...d5 27.Nxd5 Kh8 28.Qd4 Rxf1 29.Rxf1 Bxd5 30 Bxd5 Rd6 should hold...
Apr-29-07  ganstaman: Hello, and sorry to interupt the gaming. I was looking for some time-wasting entertainment, and I remembered that I once started going through a game collection of brilliancies by unknown players, though I never got to finishing it. Unfortunately, I couldn't remember whose it was or what exactly it was called.

Finally, I was able to find it (your 5th game collection). The reason I was unable to locate it through a simple search is a simple spelling error. Would you be able to change the name of the collection from "Brilliances" to "Brillianc<<i>>es" so that I can more easily locate it in the future?

Many thanks for the collection regardless.

By the way, I'm need to run now and you're making me wonder if it's me whose spelling is off. It shouldn't be that hard to figure out with a bit of time.

Apr-29-07  mckmac: <Marco65: Also 26...d5 27.Nxd5 Kh8 28.Qd4 Rxf1 29.Rxf1 Bxd5 30 Bxd5 Rd6 should hold... >

Position after 30...Rd6

Apr-29-07  Dr.Lecter: <Alchemist> Good point. I'll shut up.
Apr-30-07  Marco65: Please nobody accepts my analysis acritically. I just found a dangerous variation in what I proposed.

After 26...d5 27.Nxd5 Kh8 28.Rxf7 Nxf7 29.Nxe7 (29.Qf2 Ne5 30.Nf6? Nd3+ ) 29...Qxe7 30.Bxf7! Rxc2+ 31.Qxd2 Bxd2 32.Kxc2 (32.Bc5 Qg5+ 33.Kxc2 Qxc5+ ) Qe4+ 33.Rd3

is a difficult fight for us!

But I still prefer this to simple being an exchange down, so my vote is still for ...d5

Apr-30-07  Marco65: No, our king is doomed there. I start thinking of ...a5 now. What about a timeout? No move has ever been more critical

TheAlchemist: <Marco> I also feel we might need a timeout now.

  TheAlchemist: <Marco> BTW, 26...a5 27.Qd4 and what now? 27..Bg2 28.Qxe5!

Also, isn't 26...d5 27.Nxd5 Kh8 28.Nxe7 better? If i see everything correctly, we lose at least a piece in both lines.

I'm not sure, but I think we are objectively screwed. We should probably go into 26...Qe8 27.Rxf7 Nxf7 28.Ba4 Bf6 (or is anything better) 29.Bxc6 Qxc6 and hope for the best.

Apr-30-07  mckmac: <Team> I also vote for a timeout.

TheAlchemist: <ganstaman> Hi, thanks for stopping by! I didn't notice the spelling error until you pointed it out, thanks a lot, really. I must have started it two years ago and didn't notice the whole time, stupid me.
Apr-30-07  mckmac: <TheAlchemist> I agree with you that 26...d5 27.Nxd5 Kh8 seems to be well met by 28.Nxe7,dropping a piece: (28...Qxd2+ 29.Rxd2 may work for us but 28...Qxd2+ 29.Bxd2 doesn't.)

However,26...d5 must still remain an option imo.We need to pull apart all lines leading from 26...d5 27.Nxd5 Nd3+ before counting it out.

Apr-30-07  mckmac: Looking again at the case for 26...d5 27.Nxd5 Nd3+.We need to first test whether Marco's original line (26...d5 27.Nd5 Nd3+ 28.Kb1 Bxd5 29.Qxd3 Rd6 30.Bc5) is 100% solid.

  TheAlchemist: <mckmac> 26...d5 27.Nd5 Nd3+ 28.Kb1 Bxd5 29.Qxd3 Rd6 30.Bc5

This looks forced to me: 30...Bxb3 31.Bxd6 Rxf1 32.Rxf1 Bxc2+ 33.Qxc2 Qxd6 34.Qc4+ Kh8 35.Qc8+ Bd8 36.Qd7!

What do we do here? Can we save the ending after the queen trade (36...Qe7 37.Rd1 Qxd7 38.Rxd7)? I don't think we can, our a pawn is surely going to fall, after that it's probably game over.

TheAlchemist: But let's not get discouraged! I think we can save it, but we'll really have to be precise.

I'm still in favor of 26...Qe8, come what may. The ending that results there seems the most savable to me.

Apr-30-07  mckmac: <TheAlchemist> Discouraged? Us?( No chance.Wrong address:)

This is what I looked at before (after 30.Bc5).Haven't had a chance to check it all yet,but this must be the time for 'getting everything out there'.

30.Bc5 Rxf1 31.Rxf1 Bxb3 32.Bxd6 Bxc2+ 33.Qxc2 Qxd6 34.Qc8+ Bd8?!

...34.Qf5 Bf6 35.Qc8+ Kf7 36.Qb7+ Kg8

...34.Qf5 Bf6 35.h6 Qe5 36.Qc8+ Kf7 37.Qb7+ Kg8 38.Qxb4 Qe2?!

30.Bc5 Rxf1 31.Qxf1 Bxb3 32.Rxd6 Bxa2+ 33.Kxa2 Qa5+ 34.Kb1 Qxc5

...32...Bxc2+ 33.Kxc2 Bxd6 34.Qc4+ Kf8
