May-10-06  brankat: <WannaBe> Just remembered, although You may be aware of this. Regarding various sorts of tactical opportunities ("traps & zaps"), the Sicilian, mostly if You have the white, is full of them. More so than any other opening. Since You like to play the Sicilian as both, black & white, it may not hurt to check out some of these fast ones. You would want to know them when the white, in order to capitalize on it, and as the black to avoid them. It could be a gold mine. Since there is no more gold left in California, might as well use the substitute :)

Anyhow, Paul Keres was The Master of Sicilian tactics. It is interesting to notice how he played various lines of this opening as White but hardly ever as the black! I suppose he knew better. In this Database there is a list of almost 200 of Paul's games having the white pieces in the Sicilian and not a single one when the black! You may WANNA check out a few of them. Good luck mate.

May-11-06  chessmoron: It's just too bad that Paul Keres can't achieve world champion status.

May-12-06  EmperorAtahualpa: <No: I think England will do badly; Japan will do well. My heart hopes that African countries do well. You can never really predict these things...>

<offramp> I have the same sympathies for the African countries, except Côte d'Ivoire! These guys are playing so horribly defensive...not at all the style you're used to from an African team! And of course there's the diver Drogba on that team, whom I totally detest!

Oh, and I think you should know that Japan drew a match against Bulgaria at home 1-1...and that is not a very good sign at all, because just a few days after that, Bulgaria lost 5-1 against Scotland!

May-12-06  Open Defence: <diver Drogba on that team, whom I totally detest> don't tell me there is a Manchester United fan amongst us hehehehehe
May-12-06  EmperorAtahualpa: <don't tell me there is a Manchester United fan amongst us hehehehehe>

<Open Defence> Not anymore after they fired Van Nistelrooy (or they are going to anyway). :) Well, actually I was never a big fan of any English team.
