alexmagnus: Another interesting case of exceptional memory outside of competition was Kim Peek. But again - Peek didn't memorize books word by word. What he did was remembering the <content> of books - quite detailed, but not exactly as it was written.
May-08-11  parameshv: Just because its impossible to verify doesnt give anyone the right to reject any thing off hand.At the same time just because it is beyond our means doesnt give us the right to dis believe or say its impossible. It looks , as I used to say often, the word `impossible` looks like a word which means` immediately possible`.I saw the sly`s exhibitions.Ofcourse we can doubt him as you say so.But big pauses cannot be a criteria for such a conclusion as you have done and it certainly doesnt make it bigger either. I am not supporting Sly`s or anybody else for the matter. In the first place In the first place we are looking for some one who comes out with such feats as sly is showing we cannot expect or give an extra feat to play by saying`that there should be no pause in between`.The funny thing is even to do it in a measured manner of reproducing a book verbatim is a feat on it own.Is it not? As I told you before I met an extraordinary man here in India. He has done several PHDs in science. He is of a very extra ordinary nature. Before he attained 18yrs of age he had already attained the highest in the spiritual world.Once he demonstrated his ability to take any book at random and read pages after pages for few minutes to my friend. He took an english novel at random and asked my friend to set the time for 3 minutes or so and started turning the pages as we see a photo album. It seems he had gone through about 100 pages or more than that and asked my friend check sentence wise from any page he had gone through till then. My friend said he did it perfectly comfortably. The important thing he said after that was more important to us. He said what he had done can be done by any body.He simply puts it` just like we learn and read letters first, than words when the letters are put together, then sentences when words are put together, we can train the mind with greater focus and concentration to take the sentences enmasse,by which paragraphs after paragraphs. In this logical form it should only make the mind to take pages after pages.. and so on..Now let us analyse our learning ability first. We know all of us are not same and similar in power of concentration. We know some of them are very poor in even reading and learning. How have we learnt to read? As a child we were introduced to learn letters...at first we were saying very slowly only the letters a, b, c etc.,Then we were taught to read words.. we took our own sweet time here too slowly.. and then we practiced further and started reading the sentences and then read faster.. is it not? Think over it!!
About this man whom i was saying.
His class mate once told me this.
The person who demonstrated to my friend was reading a book in his room. His class mate went near him and asked him some question. The person who was reading the book intently never winced a bit.His class mate even raised his voice to higher octave ..there was absolutely no change the person who was reading. The power of concentration of the person who was reading was so great that nothing could divert or shake him from reading. That classmate told me that he was proud of his own power of concentration..but he found that his friends power of concentration is of a very high order unseen before. I will qoute a famous sentence from Swami Vivekananda he says, an english translation from Vedas of Hindu religion..``The power of concentration is the only key to treasure house of Knowledge`` You have not asked me to give my number.
Is there a way to talk directly as some
of the things can be easily and comfortably expressed to you directly Sorry for this long one

alexmagnus: Slyusarchuk, now completely debunked by the Russian forums, seeks support there where nobody knows him - yesterday he created an English-language website (that with himself not speaking English!). There he makes even more claims of his own "uniqueness", having a cure to schizophrenia, autism, coma and cancer, being "the third universal genius after Da Vinci and Tesla" and knowing 130 branches of medicine XD. What's next? Will he claim to have outpowered God himself?

alexmagnus: <MrMelad> If it were "just" a hoax. He fools the world - first privately, then publicly - for at least 20 years. BTW parts of his faked biography are taken from a biography of a real professor who died in 2003.
May-10-11  MrMelad: What a fraudster.. Kind of like Trice on a nuclear engine.

Reading his biography in wiki I could say something was fishy right away when I saw

<He has succeeded to get multiple people out of coma state>

and of course this is just lunacy

<claiming to have set a new world record for memorizing pi by being able to recite randomly selected sequences from the first 30 million places of pi>

Yeah right!

The wiki article reference to this chessbase article

http://chessbase.com/newsdetail.asp...

which has a really funny description of the person and his "abilities" by GM Georgy Timoshenko.

May-10-11  Ragh: <biggest financial pyramids> So, it appears as if they want to further their business by creating a brand name out of this Sly guy.

alexmagnus: BTW <MrMelad> why did you close your forum?
May-15-11  MrMelad: I didn't want our discussion to get out of hand, and I didn't want to antagonize a fellow chessgames kibitzer who might happen to read some things and take them out of context. I said some things which I don't want to be responsible for, because it was just my rational and I certainly doesn't and didn't want to hurt anyone.

I've also decided that I am not ready yet to resume the discussion.

And last thing, I don't want people to think about such things when they think about me. I hope that I was $@!$$ wrong!

The mathematics can wait... :)

Thanks a lot btw, I know I said that but I always had tremendous respect for you, and I wish you only the best in the world.

And I really don't care anymore if my honesty is ruining my style. I don't like to be at the center of attention anyways :)

May-18-11  MrMelad: On a second thought, I decided to reopen the forum and delete all the posts that relates to this thingy.

I saved them in my email, and I'll send both you and <twinlark> a copy if you want, as your messages were the only ones except mine that were deleted.

I hope you don't mind...

If you (or twinlark) wants, I'm willing to continue the discussion in emails.

The forum is now open to discuss my favorite topic - multiplication tables modulo n! :)

(It looks harder than it really is, at least I think so).

I hope that this way people could get an accurate description of the things that interests me (besides chess) if they are interested.

Jul-07-11  ahmadov: <My blog about my own solution of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict: http://alexmagnus.blog.de (in German language)> I wish it was in English, so that I knew what solution you offer...
Jul-07-11
Premium Chessgames Member
alexmagnus: <ahmadov> The main point is Jerusalem being an <undivided double capital>. There are many nuances around the solution (after all, keeping it undivided and yet double requires some "acrobatic" :)), and I also give my ideas on other problems (Palestinian refugees, settlements etc.), but the main idea is this solution of the Jerusalem question.

Jerusalem belonging to both states (and being the capital of both) equally, with the city itself being autonomous and governed by an institution consisting of both Israelis and Palestinians. Probably with some higher instance ruling "stalemate" cases. I didn't work out all details yet, but this is the plan.

Jul-08-11  ahmadov: <alexmagnus> Thanks for the clarification... But I sure you know well that the conflict is much more complicated than solving the status of Jerusalem/Quds...
Jul-08-11
Premium Chessgames Member
alexmagnus: <ahmadov> I know. Though the Jerusalem question is surely one of the central topics. Especially after that Obama's speech regarding the borders of 1967 being the basis of the negotiations (remember Netanyahu's response? He denied the borders but the <only> thing he mentioned explicitly was Jerusalem).

As I said, I also wrote my ideas regarding refugees and Jewish settlements. The former must wait... till the independent Palestine is economically strong enough to take them, and return to Palestine, not to Israel (even if their descendants lived in Israel). I think what the refugees must do <currently> is organize themselves for their <rights in countries they live in>, and not keep talking about return. If they were not so rightless in their refuge camps the wish for return would be much smaller.

As for the Jewish settlements in the West Bank. I proposed a deadline - the settlements built before the deadline remain there but become part of the Palestinian state (i.e. there will be a Jewish minority in Palestine similar to the Arab minority in Israel), while the settlements built after the deadline should be unbuilt.

Jul-08-11  Colonel Mortimer: The problem is as complicated as the Americans and Israelis want to make it.

Every year UN member countries vote for a draft resolution to settle the dispute in accordance with international law. Every year the US vetoes this proposal in the face of overwhelming international consensus. Go figure.

Jul-08-11
Premium Chessgames Member
alexmagnus: The UN would be better if they looked at the problem more open than just condemning Israel. Since Palestine is not a UN member, there of course cannot be a resolution against Palestine but numerous resolutions against Israel (if it went by number of resolution, one would think Israel is <the> evil regime in this world - not North Korea or something similar - which, of course, is ridiculous).

By the way, not so many resolutions get US veto - look at how many passed. The problem is not Israel not wanting to follow the resolution, the problem is the different <interpretation> of the resolution. After all, it is all about <secure> borders. Are the borders of 1967 secure? This is the question. Btw, the borders of 1967 were not borders at all. It was an armistice line between Israel and Jordan between 1949 and 1967. An armistice line, not a border.

Also, the international law cannot regulate on the Jerusalem and the refugee question. It is to be settled between Israel and the PA.
