Jan-03-18  Alien Math: from the news a winter storm is supposed to visit florida, hope everything is ok over there~
Jan-03-18  zanzibar: <Tab> where have you been when we needed you?

<The arbiter was IA Carlos Dias.>

What's your source?

I used this page and the process of elimination for my previous guess of Stubenvoll:

http://www.chess-results.com/tnr323...

Dias isn't listed.

There's paradoxically fewer IA's in the Blitz than the Rapid:

http://chess-results.com/tnr323006....

but again, Dias isn't listed there either.

On the other hand, given the name Dias, I did find this reference where he's mentioned:

http://www.sjakkfantomet.no/2017/12...

Best photo from tournament (I think):

https://cdn.chess24.com/uyi-70UFRt-...

Dias looks like he could be a match from his FIDE photo though:

https://ratings.fide.com/card.phtml...

But it's certainly not a lock, and without explicit mention in chess-results ... ???

Jan-03-18  zanzibar: <Tab> <and I think he may have been confused by the new rules effecting from 1/1 2018.>

I don't think so... my view is that it was a confusing situation, and the arbiter just made a natural mistake (on the fly).

<Apparently Carlsen accepted his decision and shook hands with Inarkiev.>

Here I disagree, that is, if you mean "accepted" in the sense I think you do... Carlsen handled the situation well, as it was useless to argue the point once the IA made his ruling. I think Carlsen "accepted" the decision with the immediate and full intention of appealing it to the chief arbiter.

Also, FIDE rules dictate the protocol of handshaking iirc. There's no significance in the act.

<Only afterwards, someone decided to protest (and rightly so).>

By using <someone> here you possibly confirm my previous caution - I think the someone was certainly Carlsen.

He likely never accepted the game as a loss in his own mind. Of course, we need him on record confirming this assertion, but all the body language from the video I've seen suggests as much.

<accepted his decision> Well, he certainly did not like it, and got support. On the hand-shaking, it may have been like a "thanks for the game". I read somewhere that both signed the scoresheet afterwards, but don't know if that's true.

Jan-03-18  zanzibar: <Tab> as concerns the scoresheet signing...

Ernesto Inarkiev (kibitz #95)

How are we to resolve the arbiter id?

It seems strange that Dias isn't mentioned on chess-results, nor does he himself make any mention of this tournament on his facebook page:

http://arbiters.fide.com/images/sto...

(already out of date?)

How 'bout we call it <"score-of-the-game-sheet"> then?

Jan-04-18  zanzibar: Actually, FIDE uses the terminology explicitly in the rules...

<

8.7
At the conclusion of the game both players shall sign both <scoresheets>, indicating the result of the game. Even if incorrect, this result shall stand, unless the arbiter decides otherwise.

Jan-05-18  zanzibar: <<chessgames.com> Here you go: Chess.com Speed Chess Championship (2017/18).>

OK, <CG>, what does the compound round number mean for these games?

How do I know what time control was used for which game?

If it's the compound round number, why don't you document it in the tournament page?

And also, how can there be R4.nn games, as only three time controls were used (I think?).

Also, can you please put the basic conditions (i.e. time controls) in the tournament page - to insure your games have meaning after tournament links go stale.

Fight the power, fight entropy.

chessgames.com: <what does the compound round number mean for these games?>

I have no idea; we just take the PGN from the official site and copy it. In general, the meanings of the compound round numbers vary from event to event, and often should be simplified. (For example, we don't want board number designations in the round number, although it's often used for that purpose.)

You are right that it would be nice if each tournament had fields that would expand the round numbers into various components, explain the time controls, etc. But we don't yet.

It would require a massive effort on the part of many people to have a feature like that, which I'm willing to do if the eagerness is there to do all of that research. Meanwhile we continue with our "what we get is what you see" policy.
