Aug-22-18  zanzibar: Skip the Artidiello question I posed earlier, I found his account.

I would like to know if there was notice of exactly when he finalized the sale of his 25% sake in <CG>?

I came across this post - which I think is similar to our eternal <Live Game> problem:

chessgames.com chessforum (kibitz #14826)

Seems <CG> knew about the potential for this never-ending problem for at least six years.

Aug-22-18  JimNorCal: The "smooth stat" link I gave up above guesses the site is worth about $194,000.

One quarter of that is about $50k which I believe partner Artidiello was asking for when he decided to sell his share.

Aug-22-18  morfishine: <Annie K.> Thanks for the link, saved!

I literally LOL'd.

Aug-22-18  JimNorCal: Big things happening: live game repair looks promising. And new Sinquefield 2018 page has birthed.

Yorkshire Fog: <Annie K>: I don't know whether this is something you can deal with, or whether it should be referred to <CG.com>, but there is still a snag from the Biel muddle which needs to be sorted out.

The two most recent games on Carlsen's player page are dated for 23-Aug-18, and the second one has a link to game id 1296258 Carlsen vs Svidler, 2018 which includes a lot of kibitzing from most of the live games at Biel which involved Carlsen.

Of course this second game should be replaced by the Aronian vs Carlsen game from Sinqufield round 3 on 20-Aug-18, and the first one, Carlsen vs W So, 2018 should be re-dated 22-Aug-18.

Aug-22-18  Boomie: <Yorkshire Fog: <Annie K>: I don't know whether this is something you can deal with, or whether it should be referred to <CG.com>…>

To clarify, this forum is CG.com. This is the proper forum for pointing out problems with the site.

Not all the Sinquefield games are in the CG db yet. I'm sure there are more pressing issues, but those games will eventually be included.

Based on what I've seen so far, I think both those numbers are a bit low.

Aug-23-18  LucB: Duplicate post from the present live game:

I'm not sure if anyone's mentioned it, but there's a strange banner just above the players' names. ("Live from Elista: The 2007 World Championship Candidates Matches")

  Yorkshire Fog: <Biel muddle continued>

After the finish of the Biel Tournament, the Biel Live (Groundhog) game was reborn on Aug-18-18, again changing daily after that, but with the scores taken from the first three rounds of the Sinquefield Cup.

The Aronian vs Carlsen game (Sinquefield Round 3) was featured as the Biel Live Game on Aug-21-18 – see Carlsen vs Svidler, 2018 (kibitz #665), but there was no further change until this game was overwritten by the first 3 moves of Carlsen vs W So, 2018. This happened when the Live Game switched over completely to Sinquefield yesterday afternoon, and it is these three moves which now appear on Carlsen vs Svidler, 2018.

I hope this summary of events will be of some value.

Aug-23-18  morfishine: The link for 6th Sinquefield Cup Tournament 2018 at "New Games" provides the standings at the top of the page.

The link for 6th Sinquefield Cup Tournament 2018 at "Recent Kibitzing" does not include the standings

  Tabanus: <perf> Yes indeed :(

1100 events is not a joke. I know because I have been editing through all from 2018, 2017, 2016, 2015 (?) and I think some in 2014. With endless many correction slips for Sargon.

Yorkshire Fog: <morfishine> I think standings for all tournaments can be toggled on and off by clicking the small gold cup icon near the tournament name.

Annie K.: Yes, but the standings view (&crosstable=1) should be the <default> setting. Large opens usually don't use it, but the invitationals (most of the significant very strong current and historical tournaments) do.

Is this the problem with all the old tournaments you're referring to? Is this a recent problem? I'm going to guess it should be fixed with a "global" approach, rather than one by one. Although in that case the tournaments that <shouldn't> have the standings view may have to be fixed separately.

A clause that checks for 'if number of players bigger than x' would separate the cases cleanly. What should x be? I can't remember what it used to be, off the cuff.

Aug-23-18  thegoodanarchist: <Annie K.: Yes, but the standings view (&crosstable=1) should be the <default> setting.>

Yes, agreed!

Tabanus: I'm pretty sure &crosstable=1 should be the standard for large opens too. And that only exception is team events.

SwitchingQuylthulg: Large opens are very likely to have missing games that affect the standings, though, limiting the standings' usefulness - except in pointing out where games are missing :)

The ideal solution, I suppose, would be what <Tabanus> outlined in the discussion around chessgames.com chessforum (kibitz #28153) - use &crosstable=1 for all large opens, fix the standings by editing, and add a game count for every player (or at least every player whose edited game count differs from their actual game count) so the missing games will still be readily apparent. That's an awful lot of editing, though.

(<Sargon> could write a program to eat the standings from a site like Chess-Results and do the editing semi-automatically; but obviously, at this time, that's a very low priority.)

Aug-23-18  zanzibar: <<switch> The ideal solution, I suppose would be ...>

... to use stubs.

If you have an xtab, the PGN should be able to reproduce it.

.

Aug-23-18  zanzibar: And no, it's not so hard to write a script to do all that automatically.

Of course, there's the issue of priorities, but it definitely belongs on the list.

And I'd like to see the xtab entries be activated, like SCID does, to take you directly to the games.

Again, not too hard a job for a script.

.

Aug-23-18  zanzibar: OK, maybe giant Swiss tournaments don't get/deserve full stubification - but they're the exception and certainly not the rule.

.
