Aug-22-18  Count Wedgemore: <Marmot PFL> I don't think Carlsen will allow a black passer. He can always harass the queen (like he did with 33.Rd2) at will thus preventing the black pawns from advancing, and black must keep an eye on that c7-pawn, so there's no chance for Magnus to lose this. He can more or less force a draw when he wants, I think.
Aug-22-18  Marmot PFL: <Time to force a repetition for white>

Carlesn won't do that. Win today gives him clear 1st most likely.

Aug-22-18  Marmot PFL: Maybe it will end soon, no progress in the last few moves.
Aug-22-18  BOSTER: White has not the tempo to win this game.
Aug-22-18  Marmot PFL: Carlsen taking his time, hoping for So to get bored and write notes on his score sheet.

HeMateMe: just think, if the general public could embrace cell phone DISCIPLINE the way chess players have! (a cellphone ring is a forfeited game). How quiet our streets and busses would be without morons screaming into mobile devices. One can dream...
Aug-22-18  Marmot PFL: Carlsen usually seems to play the longest games, Anand the shortest.
Aug-22-18  vonKrolock: Rd6-b6-b8 and the Pawn queens even if Black takes the d7 Rook (well, it's a plan...)
Aug-22-18  Marmot PFL: Good to see the live games working again.
Aug-22-18  Pyke: Thanks <Chessgames.com> for the life broadcast!

Indeed. From a personal standpoint, Dan's passing is absolutely heartbreaking, and from the perspective of the Chessgames.com community and web site, his sudden and unexpected departure represents a worst case scenario.

All I can do is try my best to honor Dan's memory by preserving—and eventually expanding upon—his <crowning achievement> and greatest computing <legacy>.

HeMateMe: it seemed like there was an earlier chance to double the rooks on the seventh, threatening RxP(f7)?
Aug-23-18  Count Wedgemore: <HeMateMe> I guess you mean the position right towards the end there, after 47.Re7. Yes, I'm sure Magnus wanted to play Rdd7, doubling on the 7th. That should win by force. The problem is that he was never able to play it, because after 47.Re7, Wesley started checking Magnus, forcing a perpetual.
Aug-23-18  BOSTER: No doubt that <chessgames.com> is the best chess site on the planet. Thanks.

<Daniel> normally "queued-up" what he thought would be the upcoming rounds most interesting game.

This means that the <Live Game>, pre-game, usually didn't point to the previous day's game.

I think this helped build up the anticipation a little too, btw.

The comments would get merged into the regular database version of the game created from the finished <Live Game>, usually sometime the previous night. (Maybe others has a better recollection of how it worked?).

That also meant that the comment stream of the <Live Game> the next day (i.e. like now) was fresh and ready for discussion of the upcoming game.
