Would be nice to have a place where my elementary French questions could be answered. |

| Oct-15-12 | | achieve: <chessgames> Thanks very much for looking up those numbers -- very interesting, as can be seen from various reactions here already... I'm also quite surprised at "the number of French Hits", easily beating Aznavour and Bécaud together. And those were Legends. |

| Oct-16-12 | | jepflast: <chessgames> I for one would appreciate it if you added a news item on the home page for the ending of the Thematic Challenge, giving us a link there, especially seeing as how you removed the sidebar link. The Challenge home page, also, indicates some slack! on your part--it still says JOIN NOW instead of SEE GAME HERE. Where's the love? |

| Oct-16-12 | | kellmano: The US and UK visits are roughly in proportion to the population I think. Incidentally, the French have a strong chess culture. It's promoted in schools and all. Also, if you go to the jardin du Luxembourg in Paris you get open-air chess just like in Washington Square park in NYC. |

| Oct-17-12 | | Tiggler: <Tabanus: Hi <cg> please read <imag>'s last post on the Akobian page. Please also expel/ban/remove <DL> from this game, so that <imag> may come back. IMO Mr. <DL> has provably violated the rule of 2. no spamming etc. Thanks and sorry for not blowing the whistle instead.> <Tabanus> and <truefriends>, possibly <imag> is ashamed of the post you reference and would wish to have removed. It insults a member who is following the rules and incites others to do the same. Regrettably, some have complied with this. Of course, I did blow the whistle. But not on <DanLanglois> |

| Oct-18-12 | | Eyal: <CG> During the recent ECC, you've created the player page M Botvinnik for games that were played by Mikhail A Botvinnik; but besides that, I thought I'd take the opportunity to remind you that the middle "A" in the latter's name is actually a mistake (or, rather, an arbitrary addition that was originally meant just to distinguish him from the famous player) which should be corrected – see my query at
chessgames.com chessforum and your response. |

 | | kingscrusher: Hi Chessgames.com
I think a nice touch for player homepages would be a dynamic age calculation if the date of births are known for players. E.g. Wesley So
Wesley So
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wesley...
(Wiki has month and day - FIDE cards do not seem to)
Birth date: Oct 9 1993, so the Chessgames.com page could have next to each name e.g. Wesley So, Age: 19
This might highlight more clearly child prodigies or the emerging new crop of players under 25 who seem to have 2650+ FIDE ratings with greater frequency nowadays. |
|
Oct-19-12
 | | kingscrusher: BTW also another bonus of this could be a new "Birthday's today" feature which is on the frontpage somewhere, showing which GMs have their birthdays today. Youtube also use this dynamic calculation method for Youtube homepages - with the option of not showing age. I think quite a few sites might do it. |
|
Oct-19-12
 | | kingscrusher: A slightly more wacky idea (!) which I can't resist mentioning today is also to have Tag Clouds for each game. Like on Wordpress blogs :). You could dynamically construct a game Tag Cloud from the chess keywords mentioned in the discussion of the game. So for example if "bishop pair" is mentioned many times, it would stand out with bigger font than other mentioned chess terms. Something maybe for the future anyway .... :) |
