chessgames.com: Those bits of extra information at the bottom of Opening Explorer pages are not computed instantly; they are computed on a rotation. Pages like 1.a4 have so few games that they tend to not be computed very often.

I'm not sure about Zhao Xue-N Medvegy, but apparently it was a game in our database that was deleted for some reason.

<Ohio> ... You and me. That's two prime suspects, no?

May-31-13  Karpova: <chessgames.com>

I just submitted two games played by Alexey Alekhine, Alexander's older brother and tell you to avoid any confusion or the games appearing on the wrong player page. Alexey was 4 years older and you may know him for his public denunciation of Alexander after the latter's remarks about bolshevism (Alexey stayed in the USSR so he was kind of forced to do so).

WannaBe: Anyone else experiencing this "500 Internal Server Error"?? It randomly pops up here and there.
Jun-02-13  Robed.Bishop: <WannaBe> Yes. I'm having to continually refresh the page to navigate around on an iPhone.
Jun-02-13  Karpova: I experience the same problem with <Internal Server Error> page appearing randomly (two consecutive times when pushing the <post kibitzing> button for this post).

chessgames.com: <Internal Server Error> Looking at logfiles we see a flurry of such errors just a around midnight EST today. Other than that, nothing. We're trying to figure out what the problem was (there were no server resets or anything like that at that time.) Does/did anybody experience this problem at a different time?

Anyhow, while we really want to understand what happened last night, we're fairly certain it's not happening now.

Jun-02-13  Tomlinsky: A number of what appear to be random timeouts over the past week or so here <CG> happening at times times that I wouldn't have expected the site to be especially busy. I assumed it was something at my end, and could well be, but other sites were responding okay and a retry or two resolved matters.
Jun-03-13  twinlark: Hi ceegee. Wondering if you could you shorten the redundant dating in the following: 4NCL 2012/13 (2012), ie: remove the (2012).

  jessicafischerqueen: Dear admins:

I noticed that Vladimir Petrov lacks a "notable games" section in his bio.

This is because he doesn't have the special star he needs to have, like these ones beside the names of Philipp Meitner and Philipp Hirschfeld, for example:

http://www.chessgames.com/perl/ches...

I understand that these are the criteria a player needs to get a <notable games header>?

<To get the <<<notable games header>>> a player needs to have at least 25 games and one or both of the following:

• A current rating of 2300
• Judged by the admins to merit a notable games header>

Please read this player page bio (or just the first paragraph) and see for yourself why Vladimir Petrov deserves the notable games header:

Vladimir Petrov

<Petrov notched a lifetime 50% score against both Alexander Alekhine and Jose Raul Capablanca, and defeated an impressive list of top grandmasters including Alekhine, Keres, Samuel Reshevsky, Reuben Fine, Isaac Boleslavsky, Gideon Stahlberg, Savielly Tartakower, Grigory Levenfish, Erich Eliskases, Vladas Ivanovich Mikenas, and Alexander Kotov.>

As you may know, the Soviet government murdered this player and tried, rather successfully, it seems, to erase him from chess history. Please help the still ongoing effort to fully rehabilitate this world class grandmaster.

I don't want to say that <Petrov> is much, much more significant in chess history than is <Meitner> or <Hirschfield>.

But he is.

So please give him his star so he can get the "notable games" header?

Thank you.
JFQ

Jun-03-13  Robed.Bishop: After reading JFQ's moving post, I'm willing to give Petrov my star.
Jun-03-13  TheFocus: <jessica> is right. This player needs his star.

chessgames.com: <JFQ> We can't argue with that. Vladimir Petrov is now on the same status as his illustrious contemporaries.

Jun-04-13  Tomlinsky: <CG> For your information, the random timeout problems mentioned appear to be to do with www.google-analytics.com as far as I can tell.

Thank you so much for such quick action helping to restore the legacy of <Vladimirs Petrovs>.

I have been "working" slowly on a word file to transcribe and submit many new <Petrovs> games to our database, but It's tough sledding to authenticate some of the scores.

I will only include the ones I'm sure of. I'm comparing the game scores from the <Petrovs> biography I have against online data bases.

The real highlight game to come when I do finish is <Petrovs'> brilliancy over <Tartakower> at the Buenos Aries 1939 Olympiad. <Alekhine> reported that he thought this was the best game played at that event.

Anyways cheers to you and to the best chess website in the world.

Jun-05-13  MarkFinan: Admins,
there's a bloke on the <argue> page with 2 handles claiming he experiences timelessness and spitting venom in everyone's direction! maybe you should take a look?
Jun-05-13  master of defence: chessgames.com, could you possibilite in the comments make diagrams?

WannaBe: <master of defence> You mean how to make a board diagram?

FEN Help Page

Jun-05-13  master of defence: <Wanna Be>, not. This i already know. What i mean exactly is make a board and the pieces can move, i.e, in your diagram, 1.Kc5 Kb2 2.Kb4 Bc2 3.Bf7 and goes on. When so longer variations are shown, it should have put in the own diagram.
