 | | chessgames.com: <RedShield: How about instituting a page which reports updates of games uploaded or corrected, as they become functional?> As far as correction slips go, we are definitely going to implement something of that nature. Possibly a checkbox will appear in future correction slips: [x] email me when resolved |

| Feb-24-14 | | davide2013: The idea of having GTM paginated is really good!
The number of games, more than 50, doesn't help the need of the student in finding the precise games for an ECO key.
Today we have about 1 million games a year played under FIDE, the ECO keys were developed in a period where maybe there were not so many games. GTM is an important tool for learning openings, and reinforcing the ideas learned while reading books, videos, or personal coaching. Unfortunately if you just put B30, and the line you are looking for is a retreat of the bishop in F1 instead of C4 (to avoid to waste a tempo, and give black space), it becomes difficult to get the right games with GTM. Maybe a solution could be to add a menu from "openings" where one can look for GTM games from that position. Do you think it is possible? |
|
Feb-24-14
 | | chessgames.com: <davide> Oh, I see. That's a very good point. It might be possible to link GTM with the Opening Explorer and offer a feature "Play a GTM game from this position" that takes you a specialized search. <Phony> What a mistake; we're so sorry. I just apologized on the game page. |

I'm not sure if you've been keeping an eye on my posts, but may I suggest you round up and terminate a̶n̶y̶o̶n̶e̶ ̶w̶h̶o̶ ̶d̶i̶s̶a̶g̶r̶e̶e̶s̶ ̶w̶i̶t̶h̶ ̶m̶e̶ ̶ all games designated as Krakow 1938? |

 | | chessgames.com: <Why not for uploaded games, too?> I never said it shouldn't, but the game upload feature is going to undergo such a major overhaul that the suggestion may end up being redundant. <round up and terminate ... all games designated as Krakow 1938?> No, I haven't been following that issue, but maybe the Librarian knows. We'll do a search on the database and see what comes up. |

| Feb-25-14 | | crawfb5: <<Why not for uploaded games, too?> I never said it shouldn't, but the game upload feature is going to undergo such a major overhaul that the suggestion may end up being redundant> We've been hearing that for years:
28 Apr 09 <as we are working on an alternate system to completely replace the current PGN Upload Utility we are not longer making changes to that software.> 14 Aug 10 <However we don't want to spend any more time improving the current submission software since plans are underway to replace it entirely.> 2 Oct 11 <One of the many side-effects of the Sandbox will be to revolutionize the method of game submission. For that reason, we're not interesting in spending time on tiny incremental improvements to the current upload system.> I realize game submission may not be the most important site feature, but IMO it's certainly the one most seriously flawed. |

 | | kingscrusher: Hi Chessgames.com
If possible would it be possible to add the remaining games for the Bronstein Memorial tournament - in order to give the correct perception of the eventual 3 players tied on 7 points. I had assumed last night Jobaba had won it sole first, but checking with Chessbase, he was joint winner with two others, but thankfully won it on tiebreak. http://en.chessbase.com/post/three-...
Best wishes

 | | Annie K.: <crawf> well, more recently, we've been hearing this: <<I really hope you haven't given up on the planned "sandbox" feature.> We haven't spoken of it lately precisely because we have begun work on it. | | keypusher: Reposting this from the page in question.
<Now here's a funny thing. On the link to this game page at my forum, the player of the White pieces is named "Kieseritzky." On this page he's named "Kieseritsky." How can that be?The former is the way he spelled it himself, which seems like it ought to be entitled to some weight.> Kieseritzky vs Anderssen, 1851 |
|
Feb-26-14
 | | chessgames.com: Understand that for nearly every player there are two versions of the name, a long version (Robert James Fischer) and a short version (Fischer). A long long time ago we thought it would be a good idea for certain players whose names can be spelled in various ways to have two different spellings in the database, in order to make for easier searching. Since those days we've abandoned that notion, as its been replaced by more sophisticated methods, but you can still find a few anomalies lingering around. Kieseritzky with a "z" is the preferred spelling, is that right? |
|
Feb-26-14
 | | keypusher: <chessgames> <Kieseritzky> Yes, that's my understanding, based on a chessbase replication of his signature and my impression of the "weight of authority." But others here may know more. |

| Feb-27-14 | | Blunderdome: World Chess Championship Candidates (2014) is a good example of why it would be great if bio editors could add info to pages for ongoing tournaments. There are about 16,739 posts explaining how each of the candidates qualified. I bet a lot of people would like to see that info in the header, and your helpers would be scrambling to put in there within a few hours of your opening the forum. Something to think about. |
|
Feb-27-14
 | | chessgames.com: <Blunderdome> Undeniably correct suggestion. That was really the plan all along, we were just taking things one step at a time. |
|
| Feb-27-14 | | davide2013: Sorry to bother everyone. I was looking for games played by Vainshtein Boris, he should be the one who wrote "Zurich 1953" (Bronstein just gave the name to the book) if the information is correct. In chessgames.com comes out only Vladimir Vainshtein. Maybe someone can help me? |
|
Feb-27-14
 | | chessgames.com: <davide> That might be a question for the Biographer Bistro. We have a player record called simply Vainshtein if that's a clue. |
|
Feb-27-14
 | | SwitchingQuylthulg: B Veinshtein vs Goglidze, 1931 might be one of his games... and there are two games by Bruce Fairsbury, a fictional chess master named after him, but I don't think he actually played either of those. |
|
Feb-27-14
 | | SwitchingQuylthulg: Rusbase lists the Vainshtein in Vainshtein vs Shneideman, 1931 as "Vainstein B.", so that's probably another of his games (it's from the same tournament as the Goglidze one, so either they both are or neither is). Incidentally, his opponent (Shneideman) would appear to be a duplicate of G Stepanov. |
