I sent seven games from Best Russian Player tournament occurred in 1879 and all were rejected. I recognize that in most cases, even in Chigorin 3 wins, the figure was just history. However, in C59, won by Petrovsky,c5 break appears strengthened by the previous 12 ... Bb7, a very interesting theoretical contribution. I insist that the game be accepted.

Jan-08-15  whiteshark: <ceegee> I wonder why the error-prone Carlsen vs K Drozdowski, 2014 wasn't refused by your testing algos?

  chessgames.com: <ceegee> <I wonder why the error-prone Carlsen vs K Drozdowski, 2014 wasn't refused by your testing algos?>

It's so very new that it hasn't been processed by the Opening Explorer, which would surely choke on it. The Opening Explorer process is the last automated line of defense.

More to the point, I'm wondering when and how that game went into the database. Of course we'd like all of the games from the Carlsen simul but I can't imagine that game slipping by unnoticed.

Maybe it slipped in accidentally when we were procuring Carlsen vs S Osinovsky, 2014. I'll ask around.

chessgames.com: Yes, that was it — we were scrabbling for PGN scores at chess.com and ended up with two of them, today's GOTD and that other malformed thing.

If anybody has clean PGN for the entire Carlsen simul we'd be very happy to have it.

Jan-08-15  rogge: <cg>, all PGNs can be found here:

http://www.chess.com/home/game_arch...

Click "View" on each game and download PGN.

Jan-08-15  zanzibar: As a quick challenge I grabbed all the Magnus simul games and will upload shortly.

Question though - how is <CG> going to enter the names of Carlsen's opponents?

I used the notation [Black "Chess.com - <handle>"]

Penguincw: Are you planning to broadcast Tata Steel? Giri-Carlsen seems to be a good choice.
Jan-09-15  DrNyet: <wannabe> I'd been wondering about that too, but for some reason hadn't thought of searching like this:

"site:chessgames.com/~chessgames.com <term>"

Examples that seem to work:

"site:chessgames.com/~wannabe defense"

"site:chessgames.com/~The+Caissars annie"

Jan-09-15  DrNyet: That works in Google anyway... while mulling this over I forgot that you were interested in having it within Chessgames.

Domdaniel: <Gottschalk> -- <I had not reviewed it.> Two points. One, if you're going to post games - whether here or anywhere else - surely it makes sense to proofread the score first? And two: CG doesn't usually reject games. There is often a delay in processing submissions. Since some of your submitted games are apparently already in the database, and others may have corrupted scores, perhaps you could just wait and see?

TheAlchemist: <cg.com> Maybe Shirov vs S Sulskis, 2014 could be quote of the day as a "bonus"?

  Annie K.: Heyyy... that's a brilliant idea!

Incorporating some of the clever comments made by <cg> members, here on the site, into the Quote of the Day list, I mean. There are quite a few good enough, and it would be something special to this site. :)

Of course somebody would have to collect them... oh wait, User: TheAlchemist already did. ;) Or at least made a good head start: User: Memorable Quotes

Jan-12-15  suenteus po 147: If you guys are referring to <Phony Benoni>'s quote on the game (which is definitely great), I do want to acknowledge that it is a variant of a great Tartakower quote: "Before the endgame the gods have placed the middle game."

Phony Benoni: <suenteus po 147> Was it Tartakower? My memory associates it with Tarrasch, referring to his variation of the QGD. But I don't know the real source.
