| Feb-12-21 | | realdumptrump: <<Susan> Why all this unfounded negativity[?]> I tried to explain why, but you didn't seem much interested. Instead:
<<George Wallace> Yes, after all Daniel IS his mother's son. The apple does not fall far from the tree. We DID think alike.
And yes.....we cannot have an administrator being biased in her job.and then issuing an ultimatum to the owner!
To ban a member because he did not agree with her? ummm. no. just no.> This is unclear to me, what are you saying?
Who issued the ultimatum, and who are you saying "no" to? . |
|
| Feb-12-21 | | realdumptrump: Oh, labeling the "negativity" as "unfounded" already demonstrates a bias which appears insurmountable from the get-go. . |

 | | Check It Out: <Olga Man: I never got a lot of useful feedback from the public> The time I provided feedback you were sarcastic and painfully sensitive. Of course you would say you didn't get useful feedback, you were not exactly inviting useful discussion. <Everyone should complain less>
<At the end of the day you get what you get, so don't throw a fit, because you'll still only get what you get.> I don't even understand why a behind the scenes tech developer is addressing the public in this manner, insulting them and condescending to them how they should view the world. My suggestion: develop your amazing product and let it speak for itself. Leave the bromides to others. |
|
| Feb-13-21 | | George Wallace: <Susan: Why all this unfounded negativity> You may recall a recent post of mine.
<Chess players are, in general, one of the worst bunch of them all.Petty, argumentative, arrogant, contrary, quick to complain and nearly impossible to please. > That should answer your question. |
|
| Feb-13-21 | | Colonel Mortimer: <jessicafischerqueen:
The abusive and pointless political argument from Rogoff is spilling over into other places, such as the Memorable Quotes> It was one post by <saffuna>, not a spill over as you described. Take it up with him directly. |

 | | Fusilli: <labeling the "negativity" as "unfounded" already demonstrates a bias> Without giving an opinion on the matter, I would like to say that an opinion or position on something is not a <bias>. In statistics, where the word originates, a bias is a systematic measurement error (always in the same direction). It can only be claimed when we know the true value. In this case, there is no way to know if the complaints are or not "negativity," let alone if they are "unfounded." You can call them "the well-founded constructive criticism" and it would not be biased either. These are opinions or positions on something. |

| Feb-13-21 | | Z legend of CG: <<Fusilli> quoting RDT (Z) <labeling the "negativity" as "unfounded" already demonstrates a bias> ... In statistics, where the word originates, a bias is a systematic measurement error (always in the same direction). ... >
You're entitled to your opinion, of course. That can be debated over on <Rogoff> if you wish. But I think you cannot claim the word bias originates in statistics, as my sources differ: <bias - 1520s, "oblique or diagonal line," from French biais "a slant, a slope, an oblique," also figuratively, "an expedient, means" (13c., originally in Old French a past-participle adjective, "sideways, askance, against the grain"), a word of unknown origin. Probably it came to French from Old Provençal biais, which has cognates in Old Catalan and Sardinian, and is possibly via Vulgar Latin *(e)bigassius from Greek epikarsios "athwart, crosswise, at an angle," from epi "upon" (see epi-) + karsios "oblique" (from PIE *krs-yo-, suffixed form of root *sker- (1) "to cut").In the old game of bowls, it was a technical term used in reference to balls made with a greater weight on one side (1560s), causing them to curve toward one side; hence the figurative use "a one-sided tendency of the mind" (1570s), and, at first especially in law, "undue propensity or prejudice."> https://www.etymonline.com/word/bias
The word originates from ancient Greek, and has a closer connection to geometry than statistics. I use in a simple sense, i.e. the ball is always pulling to the right. . |
|
| Feb-13-21 | | Z legend of CG: Oh yeah, "undue propensity or prejudice" also seems to apply. Examples can be cited.
E.g. deleting my original thread from the other day (what about Free Speech?!), while extracting (i.e. cherry-picking) <Mort>'s from the middle of it: chessgames.com chessforum (kibitz #35074) It's unfair to me because it takes a quote of mine out of context (which was deleted), and leaves a cherry-picked post of <Mort>'s to get a swipe at me. Do you think <Daniel> would do such a thing? (Sure, he deleted entire threads, but did he cherry-pick excerpts out of the thread to score points? Nah)

| Feb-13-21 | | Z legend of CG: <OCF>'s negativity seems unfounded. He's getting 4 hours more than he asked for. Chess players - always complaining, never happy! . |

| Feb-13-21 | | Z legend 000000001: <Wilber> do you copy the PGN (i.e. moves) to a program like <SCID> or <ChessBase> on your local PC? (*) Or do you just follow the first few moves in your mind's eye? (*) I suppose a good recommendation would be for <CG> to make Stockfish analysis playable. I'd also suggest setting MPV = 3 to gain a better perspective on what chess is on the board. Perhaps that should be user selectable? . |

| Feb-14-21 | | realdumptrump: <Susan> Oh, when you say ultimatum, you mean ultimatums. Like this one...
* * * * *
<Big Pawn: Just so the moderators know, <realdumptrump> is a sock puppet account for <Zanzibar>. He's using the account to create a false impression of consensus regarding his political arguments, as you can tell by his user name.If <CeeGee> now allows this, that's great. I will go and make some socks myself and see if they don't get banned. What's fair is fair.
I refer to the rules below:
<The use of "sock puppet" accounts to circumvent disciplinary action taken by moderators, create a false impression of consensus or support, or stage conversations, is prohibited.> Should we have fairness, or should we have special privileges for some people?> chessgames.com chessforum (kibitz #34189) * * * * *

The Stockfish analysis (ENGINE) feature no longer works for me. After a long delay I keep getting this message: <Sorry, no analysis for this position.>> Same here.
Yesterday I was able to do a FEN position, but not load a game score. The diagram that shows the position, also went blank. The diagram thing happened before for about 10 months then came back. I was still able to use the computer. When I try to paste a game score in I get the message: <Can't connect to engine.chessgames.com:80 (Connection timed out) LWP::Protocol::http::Socket: connect: Connection timed out at /usr/share/perl5/LWP/Protocol/http.pm line 41.> |
