Here's my gift: Sunway Sitges Open (2020). There's an American in the standings list who passed 2500 there and became a GM, guess who! |

Luke Warm: Saw Spielberg’s ‘West Side Story’: best bit is when the spics sing and dance ‘America’.> "Spics" is now acceptable at chessgames? |
|
Dec-26-21 | | George Wallace: When you can use the name of Jesus Christ as a cuss word on <chessgames.com>, then there are no standards in the first place. Why is it not okay to offend Latinos, Blacks or Muslims, but it's perfectly acceptable to wipe your butt with the Lord's name? Now quit finking on everyone and get back to the Rogoff page to face the music regarding the 29% and the 33%. |
|
Dec-26-21
 | | saffuna: Not the same thing in any way.
But since it's perfectly acceptable to call another user a "brown turd"... |
|
Dec-26-21 | | diceman: <saffuna:
"Spics" is now acceptable at chessgames?> Depends?
Are they Trump supporters?
Since Trayvon Martin, <White Hispanic> is the new undocumented. |

 | | saffuna: "Undocumented"?
What does this have to do with undocumented? |
|
Dec-26-21 | | technical draw: A little enlightenment. The slur "spic" derives from the word "speak". It was coined because of the difficulty new hispanic arrivals had in pronouncing "speak". Thus "I don't speak English" became "I don't spic English", and so a new insult word is born. There are, however, more ethnic slurs for Italians than for Hispanics or Jews. And there are more ethnic slurs for blacks than for any other group in the United States. Also there are more ethnic slurs in English than in Spanish. Some ethnolinguist could explain why. |

 | | Diademas: Are you just going to keep the World Rapid and Blitz Championships (2021) as one page or treat it as two tournaments? I would suggest the latter because, well, they are. And the standings will end up as a mess. |

 | | kingscrusher: Hi Guys
Is it possible to set up two additional historical Lasker event pages: The two tournaments Lasker played in 1892 in Convent Garden, London interest me to perhaps have Chessgames.com pages for. I think it can be constructed for these two events and linked from the Lasker page using information I googled and found this amazing blog: 1892 London BCA
https://zanchess.wordpress.com/2016... and then
1892 London (1892) – Quintangular
https://zanchess.wordpress.com/2016... It would be great to have historical event pages set up for these two events, especially as I once worked in Convent Garden :) |
|
Dec-29-21 | | chesssantosh: Agree with <Diademas>. Separating rapid and blitz tournament makes sense. |

 | | Stonehenge: Just an example of the problems you get with uploading thousands of games without checking anything: Kiev (1978) That's five duplicate games in one tournament only. I'm not doing all this work for free so that some punk can make a mess of it. Maybe it's time to put me in charge of certain things here. |

 | | jessicafischerqueen:
I vote putting <Stonehenge> in charge of how games are uploaded and how tournaments are collected, and how the Event/Site tags are configured. I also vote
that <Stonehenge> be elevated to ranks of Admins who are currently being paid. I also vote that new tech employees stop mass uploading if they don't understand how to do it without spitting up duplicate games. The worst part about this is that it seems the paid techs weren't even aware of this problem, or worse don't care about this problem, which <Stonehenge> has alerted them about on numerous occasions already. Not listening to what <Stonehenge> has to say about the actual content of the database, and how it processes games, will just lead to more incompetence and neglect. Also, volunteer editors should have the ability to change Event/Site tags on "blue lettered" "permanent" collections. Some of them are inaccurate, gusting up to completely wrong. I already emailed Stephen about one case of this- a collection I had made with incorrect event tags, all of which are now in permanent blue ink. If I were able to fix this myself, it would only take 15-20 minutes. That said, I was encouraged to hear from Stephen that there are future plans to fix this problem, plans that would involve some consultation with volunteer editors about blue ink Event/Site tags. |

 | | Tabanus: Apart from the duplicate games added the punk has also made an effort with Gashimov Memorial (2021). The rapid games are "Classical" and the blitz games are missing. The punk (a grandchild of Susan?) and the the rest of you must be waiting for me to make the games "Rapid", import the blitz games and dub them "Blitz", then merge the two and write an intro or at least tell who won. Or not. Apparently nobody cares and nobody is taking CG seriously. 8th Sunway Sitges (2021). This seems to be vandalized. The standings is edited, yet there is a new standing every time I click on it. Lots of missing games, wrong player names, etc., no tribute to the young new rapid world champion who won this event. Can the punk please delete the whole thing and try to upload the games again, so that it can be worked with? (Read: so that I can work with it, nobody else will.) <World rapid + blitz>. The blitz games are still not uploaded. Not the Women's rapid + blitz events either. <Not listening to what <Stonehenge> has to say about the actual content of the database, and how it processes games, will just lead to more incompetence and neglect.> I'd prefer to have Stonehange of someone with his ability to upload the games, incl. new events. Of course that person should be paid, only the payer don't know what to pay for. It does not matter if the tech guys Steve + beatgiant are doing a great job, and long as the site is run by what appears to be drug addicts. <Tata Steel 2022> Susan says Caisso will take care of it. It's three simple round robins, but no thanks. I've seen enough already. Let a qualified person do it. Yeah, Happy New Year. |

<Tabanus>
While I agree with your policy assessment and recommendations for running the database, I urge you to refrain from insulting language. Labeling people "drug addicts" and "punks" isn't going to help you get them to follow your recommendations. You could easily make every point you made in your post above without insulting people, which would likely make it more likely the owner/admins would listen to you. |

 | | Tabanus: Btw I have lost again the link to the Editor Page. Two options for CG: 1) Do not send it to me and get rid of me forever.
2) Send it to me and think that I'll decide to continue until there's a new owner. |

<Susan>
<Tab's> argument is substantive, and I urge you to call a halt to whoever it is you put in charge of uploading the tournament games. Obviously he/she is not up to the task, to the extent that the damage he/she is doing to the site far outweighs any value it might otherwise have. Please listen to <Stonehenge> and <Tabanus> because everything they complain about is actually happening and it is likely to destroy any credibility this database may still enjoy. It's better to freeze any new operations on admins uploading games and organizing tournament pages than to allow the current state of affairs to continue. Please consider firing whoever you have in charge of these tasks, and hiring <Stonehenge>. He is the obvious choice for these tasks, which require little "tech know how," but much knowledge about how the database of players/games actually works. Please listen to the myriad of complaints from <Stonehenge> and <Tabanus>. When it comes to managing this database they know EXACTLY what they are talking about. They can see the damage occurring on a daily basis and it clearly horrifies them. How could it not? For at least 20 years both of them have devoted hundred of thousands of hours sheparding and protecting this database. Please listen to both of them and do something about the current state of chaos caused by the well-meaning folk(s) you currently have in charge of managing the database. |

 | | Tabanus: <jess> I have made those points over and over again for 15 years. We can just as well speak out loud because they are incompetent anyway, and/or only interested in the income the site brings. I do believe we are mainly considered as helpers for their booze and holidays in the Caribbean. |
