fredthebear: The "offending" comment in and of itself certainly is not worthy of a suspension.Messiah has kibitzed 3,380 times. Most are harmless one-liners. He's well off the pace of the top posters on this site. He's not a disruptor.
The whole point of KIBITZING is to allow people to express their opinions! Let's have a definition of KIBITZ:
kibitz
[ˈkibits]
VERB
informal
NORTH AMERICAN
look on and offer unwelcome advice, especially at a card game.
By that definition, I'd say <Messiah> is right in line.
So, now we have the OPINION POLICE working on this website?
I'll bet the staff member who handed out the suspension has given their own opinion more than 5,000 times.
If we all agreed, there would be no point to kibitzing. It's the differing point-of-views (if said in good taste) and insights that are the spice.
The staff member should have at least made the point that belittling the world champion routinely, repeatedly is not in good taste.
Let's give <Messiah> credit for being interested in chess. He's generally friendly toward other users. He generally takes teasing and criticism well from other users. Yes, Carlsen fans are frustrated with him. Perhaps it is a violation -- trolling MC's losses. However, it's my understanding that public celebrities and officials are fair game for verbal pot shots (legally, not morally or ethically, but legally).
If CG wants to clean up this site, they have plenty of other places to start with, including a few of their volunteer editors bashing and lying about other users.
A public warning should precede most suspensions to give the person a chance to self-correct. That user should have the right to appeal. Blatant racism and profanity directed toward another user does not warrant a warning -- it should go straight to suspension, and that suspension should be made known to all users.
I am concerned that personal dislike by the staff has entered into their decision making. We all have to somewhat tolerate those who have different points of view, like it or not. We all have different experiences that affect our thinking.
It's good to know that CG.com actually hands out suspensions!
I read deliberate and besmirching racial slurs in the kibitzer cafe last week or two. What became of that? That sort of language has no place here in any public forum.

Thank you for helping me understand <Diademas>. I'm not trying to argue with you personally. I can see how things reached this point of frustration. I wholeheartedly agree that lines have to be drawn. Those lines should apply fairly to everyone, and be applied in a consistent, uniform manner by staff. (It's obvious that some staff will tolerate any sort of garbage from their buddies.)
No one staff member should be able to suspend another user. There should be some form of consensus.
Again, thank you <Diademas>. I've had my say and I hope <Messiah> continues to enjoy using this site.
