 | | WannaBe: There's an interesting 'bug' in the Opening Explorer, if you click on Opening Explorer and flip the board, (You, are playing black) and click through the following moves: 1.e4 c5 2.d4 cxd4 3.Bc4
Opening Explorer As soon as I click on 3...e6 the board flips and now I am playing white's side. Opening Explorer |

 | | Susan Freeman: Aha. I thought I was imagining that!
I will report this ASAP. Thank you. |

Jan-30-22 | | Total Jim: Greetings.
Actually there is more amiss with the Opening Explorer than just the intermittent "flipping board" bug. For example, if you start at the opening position from the White side, you'll see that the Explorer covers (as of today) 1,162,709 games – dated from 1475 to 2022. Now just flip the board over to Black's side and we have only 947,849 games represented - with dates ranging from 1475 to 2020. It seems to me that the figures should be exactly the same – regardless of which side of the board we're exploring from. It "appears" that the Black side of the Explorer's database hasn't been properly updated for a couple of years or so. I remember reading awhile ago about a "script" that had to be run in order to update the Explorer. I'm just "guessing" that something is wrong with that script – and maybe that's what's causing these little issues. Personally, I've just been using a workaround – by doing all of my exploring from the White side – and then flipping the board from time to time in order to see the positions from the Black side. I'll write some more about the explorer if anyone is interested. It looks like many other more important issues (with tournaments and matches, etc.) are being taken care of lately. I fully understand if little quirks in the Opening Explorer are being kept on the back burner. But - since WannaBe has brought up the Opening Explorer subject, I decided to point out what I've noticed too. Maybe you'll be able to kill two bugs with one stone. Stay safe – stay well |

 | | Susan Freeman: <Total Jim> Thank you for the insight!
And polite suggestions.
As you may already know, after Sargon got fired Steve had to start from scratch, and he did a fine job of it. The old Infrastructure was too obsolete and convoluted to save.
But these are important matters and any suggestions are appreciated. Many member start their day with OE and a cuppa |

 | | WannaBe: <Total Jim> Thanks for that info. For site admin: If a script (has) to be run, on a Windows Server, it can be done as a scheduled task. On a Linux Server, it can be done as a chron job, I don't understand why in 2022, a task has to be "Manually" run. |

 | | MissScarlett: < Aha. I thought I was imagining that! > <Miss Susan>, so apart from all your other accomplishments, you're an opening theoretician, as well? |

<Susan>
Might you consider canceling my lifetime premium membership for User: LatvianChessHistory, and gifting it to User: jnpope in my stead? As mentioned in a previous episode, I already bought a lifetime premium membership years ago for my <JFQ> account. This post I just made over on the <Biographer's Bistro> will help explain why I think this would be a good idea for everyone at cg.com: Biographer Bistro (kibitz #22898) |

I don't believe we ever had such repeated, extensive, and prolonged misbehavior when the <obsolete and convoluted> code and servers were in place. It unfortunate our fate - did the Greeks have it right, that the web once spun.... |

 | | Caisso: Happy to inform cg users that thousands of Grand Master games have been added to the cg database in the last few months . Also many entries in the much needed bio pages of chessplayers have also been added. This includes updates on the bios of the top players in the world which were surprisingly lacking. Thank you all cg users for your support. I will continue to upload Grand Master games to the satisfaction of our cg users. |
|
Feb-02-22
 | | Caisso: As i mentioned before I am making sure to go over all uploaded games and ridding the uploads of duplicate games. |
|
Feb-02-22
 | | MissScarlett: Good job but from where are you sourcing the games? |
|
Feb-03-22
 | | MissScarlett: Why is Caisso seemingly incapable of answering a straightforward question? |
|
Feb-03-22
 | | Susan Freeman: I just spoke to him. He is still learning. And there is much to learn. |

 | | Susan Freeman: <Miss> Caisso says he will get back to you in a few hours. (He only works part time.) |

Feb-03-22 | | fabelhaft: <Good job>
I only looked at the Carlsen page after reading about the top player bio updates. In the classical tournaments section there is: <In june he played the [Clutch International (2020)](Clutch International (2020)) where he won the 8 player event. Another 8 player event was [Norway Chess (2020)](Norway Chess (2020)) where he tied for first with Firouzja> The Clutch International wasn’t classical but an online speed chess event, and Carlsen didn’t share first with Firouzja in Norway, but secured sole first already before the last round. On the Nepo match: <The first six games were drawn> <The match was controversial in that some people felt that the challenger was "not even trying"> etc. Carlsen won the sixth game, and I wonder if the match really was controversial. Anyway, enough of nitpicking for now :-) |
|
Feb-03-22 | | Z free or die: <fabelhaft> a low statistical study, to be sure, but enough stats to raise a concern or two. . |
|
Feb-03-22 | | fabelhaft: It’s true that the top player bios are not particularly updated, for example Aronian has been #2 on 26 rating lists. Only in 2017 he won three tournaments where Carlsen participated. But his player bio doesn’t have a single result since 2015, the same for the Radjabov page, the Giri page, the Grischuk page etc. |
|
Feb-03-22
 | | Tabanus: On Norway Chess (2020) it's my crosstable that counts, not CG's meaningless standings table. <tied for first with Firouzja> was indeed added by Caisso, see Edit History: Magnus Carlsen. |
|
Feb-03-22
 | | Caisso: I was gone for a few days. Went on a mini vacation. Sorry i could not answer any questions. |
|
Feb-03-22
 | | Caisso: i updated much information but for sure i did not completely update every players info as that is impossible. Even if i was working full time. |
