Nov-25-22  diceman: <stevemcd87: <Z> <dice> We are refactoring the entire analysis process for cloud optimization. The upgrade will come with Stockfish15, we'll make sure it doesn't negatively effect ply count.>

Thanks steve.

Last time I looked, a <Chess Diagram> and <Chess Game> are handled differently.

(I don't know if that is by design, or a flaw)

A <Chess Diagram> can be looked at deeper, until you hit max depth. If you use 6mins of depth, later you can look at 15mins, or 25mins, up to max depth.

A <Chess Game> only allows one pass. If run through at the lowest depth, you will get the same output, if you ask for more depth. It basically ignores requests for a deeper analysis.

Can you look into having a <Chess Game> pgn allow deeper updates (until max depth) the way a diagram does?

I've noticed there are 3 types of analysis:
- Fen
- Game
- Move

There's a great explanation of the different type of analysis at the Analysis Laboratory page, above the <RECENT ANALYSES>:

<<CLICK HERE> FOR DETAILED INFORMATION ON HOW TO USE THE ANALYSIS LABORATORY>

You may be experiencing a bug.
We'll make sure the upgraded Engine server will work as it is designed to.

<Stockfish 9 v010218 (minimum 6s/ply)

Notes by Stockfish 11 (minimum 30s/ply)>

I believe there are 4 intensity settings.

1= 6s/ply weakest
4= 30s/ply strongest

Typically, a game run at 6s/ply wont allow a deeper update. (It uses no fuel, and puts out the same output)

At least that's the way it was last time I looked.

Here is another thing to watch out for.

<job# 4489574683613915>

(I ran this 11/25/22)

Most of the depth is deep.

It says whites 10.Bf4 is bad, and gives a better line at 39 ply depth.

It says after blacks 10...Re8 the position is equal @41 ply.

<Re8 = 0.00 (41 ply)>

So far so good.

It says blacks 13...Bd7 is bad, but only gives an improvement at 26 ply???

(way lower than the average depth)

<13.f3 Bd7 {better is 13...Be6 14.Nxe6 Nxe6 15.Qd2 Qa5 16.Ba2 g5 17.Bf2 d5 = +0.26 (26 ply)>

<14.Rb1 ⩲ +0.81 (29 ply)>

Says Ne6 is incorrect, but gives a line at only 29 ply.

<Ne6 ? 14...a5 15.b3 ♖c8 16.♖c1 ♘e6 17.♘xe6 ♗xe6 18.♗xe6 fxe6 = 0.00 (29 ply)>

Says white has a plus after move 15, but is now back at 40 ply.

<15.Nf5 ⩲ +0.78 (40 ply)>

After the final move, it gives the final position at 44 ply.

16.exd5 ♘g5 17.♕d3 ♗xf5 18.♕xf5 ♕b6+ 19.♔h1 ♕d4 20.♗xg5 ⩲ +0.67 (44 ply)

Some dramatic jumps there.

41 ply down to 26 ply.

29 ply back up to 40 ply.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention.
I recall the Engine providing low ply count analysis, briefly.
To my understanding, the Engine checks to see if we analyzed the FEN before, if we have, it will return the previous analysis without charging fuel.
We will need to query the database for analysis of 60seconds(4 fuel) that has less than 30ply and reanalyze the position.

  MissScarlett: All games in the rapid sections of Tata Steel India (2022) and Tata Steel India (Women) (2022) should be marked as such, not blitz.

The FIDE Handbook definitions:

<A ‘Rapid chess’ game is one where either all the moves must be completed in a fixed time of more than 10 minutes but less than 60 minutes for each player; or the time allotted plus 60 times any increment is of more than 10 minutes but less than 60 minutes for each player.

A ‘blitz’ game’ is one where all the moves must be completed in a fixed time of 10 minutes or less for each player; or the allotted time plus 60 times any increment is 10 minutes or less.>

The blitz sections will follow at the weekend.

Do you know where to get the PGN for the games? TWIC nor 24 have the tournament up yet. Sometimes it takes time for TWIC to put it up.
Dec-02-22  stone free or die: Hi <pete>.

Sorry, the best source I know at the moment is the one I already gave:

https://www.elllobregat.com/chess/

The games are there but I don't see a direct PGN download feature. So it's either web scraping or TWIC I guess.

Dec-03-22  stone free or die: <MissScarlett: Note to H Selfe vs Blackburne, 1868, Aria supports Engine analysis.>

Do you mean via the <Engine Analysis> button, or something more specific to <Aria>?

I guess you mean the same feature that Olga has.

Which mysteriously seems missing from <pgn4web>.

I think that's an easy feature for <CG> to add to their <pgn4web> viewer, isn't it?

  MissScarlett: I wasn't aware that Aria supported null moves. Now I can analyse P+2 odds games in that form. I had been intending to request that <pgn4web> be made analysis compliant.

Dec-03-22  diceman: What is a:

  Susan Freeman: <Dice> are you using a VPN?
Dec-03-22  stone free or die: I had bouts of 403 myself, even though I've been fully vaccinated.

Luckily, a simple reboot usually fixed the problem for me (but not <CG>, whose problem it really is).

As for the meaning of 403, Mozilla tells us this:

<The HTTP 403 Forbidden response status code indicates that the server understands the request but refuses to authorize it.

This status is similar to 401, but for the 403 Forbidden status code, re-authenticating makes no difference. The access is tied to the application logic, such as insufficient rights to a resource.>

https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US...

So, to paraphrase - "I hear you, now bug off"

Dec-03-22  stone free or die: FWIW - No VPN's were involved.

No.

Dec-04-22  diceman: <petemcd85:
<dice> what page were you trying to access when receiving the <403 Forbidden> error? Can you tell me what steps you took before receiving the <403 Forbidden> error?>

It was in the Kibitzer's Cafe.
(but it also happens here)

I was copy/pasting from this article:

https://asteriskmag.com/issues/1/is...

I was copying the first indented part which starts:

<In 2001 Frédérick Brochet> and ends:

<with a flavourless dye>

I tried erasing sections to see where the error might be.

This part previews OK:

<In 2001 Frédérick Brochet of the University of Bordeaux asked 54 wine experts to test two glasses of wine – one red, one white. Using the typical language of tasters, the panel described the red as “jammy" and commented on>

As soon as I add the next word <its> I get the error.

There are probably problems with other words, but that was as far as I got.

I'm using Firefox.

Dec-04-22  stone free or die: <<pete> In the new analysis page coming soon, the engine lines will be playable.>

Good news. I'm sure I'm not the only one who will appreciate it.
