 | | FSR: About five minutes ago I submitted a PGN of the game Krakovsky-Rhine. Then I realized that it was malformed, and submitted a corrected version. Please use the more recently submitted one, and discard the first one. Thanks. |

 | | MissScarlett: Malformed how? They look exactly the same. |

 | | Susan Freeman: As Many of you already are aware, Florida is in the path of a deadly category 5 hurricane. Milton.
Our West coast office will be closed, and Steve is under mandatory evacuation orders.
I hope he is coming to see me, on the East coast. Traffic is stalled for miles, and petrol stations are closed.
The power outages are unpredicable and could last for weeks.
The storm surge hitting the McDonald clan area is predicted to be up to 15 feet.
I hope to hear from Steve soon.
At this point, CG will take things one day at a time. The ETA is Wednesday night.
Thank you for your patience and understanding. |

 | | FSR: <MissScarlett> The original one had a field that I had closed with } rather than the correct ] The original also had a diacritical mark on Krakovsky's surname. |
|
Oct-08-24 | | stone free or die: <Susan> and <Steve> - stay safe, and be careful. Even the East coast is going to be hit by a full blown hurricane. Same goes for Steve's brother (sorry, I forget his name at the moment). |
|
Oct-09-24
 | | Susan Freeman: Thank you. Yes, it is a huge hurricane |
|
Oct-09-24
 | | Check It Out: <Susan>, <Steve>, and others here in Florida, be safe. |
|
Oct-10-24
 | | Susan Freeman: YES, We are safe. :)👌😊 |

 | | MissScarlett: Any chance of live games from United States Championship (2024)? |
|
Oct-11-24 | | stone free or die: <MissScarlett: Any chance of live games from United States Championship (2024)?> If <CG> allowed it would you be volunteering to run a live game now and then? . |
|
Oct-11-24 | | stone free or die: Oh, and let me just say that it's always good to know that Susan's got her head above water. Steve too (and is the brother Kevin? Sorry, I forget) |
|
Oct-13-24 | | stone free or die: Has <CG> been mucking around with page formats of late? E.g. changing the width of section boxes, etc.
There are grumblings. |
|
Oct-13-24
 | | MissScarlett: They've centred the <chess event> box on tournament pages. Revert back, please! |
|
Oct-13-24
 | | MissScarlett: <If <CG> allowed it would you be volunteering to run a live game now and then?> Best not. I don't see the particular value of live games here when there are so many other media. I will make an exception for world championship events. Let's concentrate on what <cg> is uniquely good at. Suggestions on a postcard. |

Oct-13-24 | | stone free or die: Sorry <petemcd> for forgetting your name. I found it again, all on my own! User: petemcd85 Hope all is well, and that Milton didn't disrupt your life too much. |

 | | MissScarlett: Ach, not again! Time to clear the decks again and promote the last listed <1523804|K Kulaots|Nisipeanu|Diet Kula (Annie K.)> to <GOTD>. |

 | | kingscrusher: Hi Chessgames.com
I was just curious if the idea of Email notifications could help the site tremendously - if someone posts a reply or in a thread one kibitzed - to get an Email notification as an option. I imagine a lot of past active kibitzers could be brought back to the site. Of course have options to disable such notifications if they are annoying for some. A service like Amazon AWS for Email is fairly cheap even for thousands of emails sent per day in the extreme case. And it could well be worth it to get past active kibitzers back. Maybe this is controversial in ways I don't appreciate but the upside I see is that rich heritage and history of kibitzers kind of being revitalised a bit from Email notifications to encourage members back to key threads of interest. |

 | | stevemcd87: Sorry for the delay.
<HeMateMe: I keep logging off and getting the message here "You are now logged off..." but when I start my computer the next day a message here pops up "You are already logged on...">
We'll look into this and get back to you ASAP.
<Stonehenge: I need to put some ratings on zero (mix-up with another player with the same name) but that doesn't seem to be possible.>
Which player would you like to remove the rating for? We'll have the feature updated by tomorrow <MissScarlett: Any chance of live games from United States Championship (2024)?>
We can only run live games if Lichess is streaming it(https://lichess.org/broadcast). We can do WR Chess Masters Cup if you'd like. Game suggestions are welcomed. <stone free or die> We will reply to your email soon <kingscrusher> Thank you for your suggestion. Susan and I will discuss. We tried a similar idea a while back. |

We needed to add a left margin due to an ad that was obstructing content. The margin is meant only for free members. We will pretty it up in the near future. Sorry for the inconvenience. |

 | | MissScarlett: <I was just curious if the idea of Email notifications could help the site tremendously> How to differentiate between a reply to a particular poster and just another post to a game thread? <We can only run live games if Lichess is streaming it(https://lichess.org/broadcast).> I had noticed that lichess wasn't broadcasting the US championships. Is this a hangover from last year when lichess (and chess.com) said they'd suspend coverage/promotion of Saint Louis CC events in the wake of the Ramirez affair. I thought that had been resolved. |
|
Oct-14-24 | | stone free or die: BTW - in the old days, didn't we just have Daniel sitting at his computer, watching the game live in one window, and entering the moves into a <CG> live page on another? I don't think he used scraping software, and so could catch interesting games on any platform. This was why I asked about <Missy>'s inclination - I doubt a non-chessplayer would ever do this. And the problem with scraping is that the host platform is likely to modify the format in the not too distant future (speaking from experience!). So <CG> will not only be limited but be vulnerable to additional billing hours, or a sudden crash (or both). |

 | | stevemcd87: Below link is the API we use to stream Live Games from Lichess:
https://lichess.org/api#tag/Broadca... |
|
Oct-14-24 | | stone free or die: Ah, thanks <steve> - so it's an export feed from Lichess and so no direct scraping needed. Still, somehow <Lichess> has to load up with the games, so I really wonder how many "interesting" tournaments will become available(*). <Daniel>'s method allowed pretty much all big events to have at least one Live game made available to <CG>. (As I've said before, this "quaint" technique had the benefit of focusing attention and commentary on <CG> - so it was fairly successful as well as charming.) (*) Somewhat interesting to see comments on Lichess where users were volunteering to feed the moves into Lichess. |

 | | Stonehenge: <<Stonehenge: I need to put some ratings on zero (mix-up with another player with the same name) but that doesn't seem to be possible.>
Which player would you like to remove the rating for?> Alexander Zaitsev His last three ratings <Last FIDE rating: 1995 (1924 rapid, 1910 blitz)> should be deleted. They don't belong to him. |
