  Stonehenge: Also, updating <Highest rating achieved in database> doesn't work anymore, not even after refreshing the page. That only works after updating the rating and then adding some games, after which the page gets updated automatically.

  Susan Freeman: < Stonehenge: Also, updating <Highest rating achieved in database> doesn't work anymore, not even after refreshing the page. That only works after updating the rating and then adding some games, after which the page gets updated automatically.>

And that makes sense.

Oct-15-24  stone free or die: <Susan> What makes sense?

I think <stonehenge> is implicitly requesting that an editor updating a player's rating automatically updates the player's page to reflect that change.

Which isn't the current behavior apparently.

Just my 2 sense.

<Stonehenge: Also, updating <Highest rating achieved in database> doesn't work anymore, not even after refreshing the page. That only works after updating the rating and then adding some games, after which the page gets updated automatically.>

These issues should be resolved. if you encounter the issue again, please provide a link to the player's page.

Oct-16-24  stone free or die: RE: FEN copy

<<goodevans> You do know it's only three clicks to create a diagram here, don't you? [SETTINGS], [Copy FEN], paste.

If you did know that then that really is lazy!!>

I Krush vs C Yip, 2024 (kibitz #16)

I freely admit to tending towards lazy when I can, and so I ask:

<Why do we need 3 clicks to copy a FEN?>

Why not 1?!?

Can't <CG> put a button on the Olga button ribbon to copy FEN into the clipboard?

That source of stuff is fairly standard for iOS, Android, Mac OS, Windows, Linux, platforms these days.

Why not? Just copy the current board position into the clipboard allowing it to be conveniently pasted whereever the user wants.

Oct-17-24  stone free or die: Technical question -

https://www.chessgames.com/nodejs/u...

Why does it seem I have to click the <logout> button twice to logout?

If that is a design feature, well, it's simply annoying. If it's an accidental behavior, well, it's still annoying.

Or am I doing something wrong, however unlikely?

  offramp: Many years ago I made a suggestion about the colouring of chevrons. I think it was a really good suggestion. It would assist the colour-blind.

chessgames.com chessforum (kibitz #28277)

<<<<<I want to make a comment about the hierarchy of colours when using guillemets. Got that? It seems to be
1. Teal
2. Red
3. Violet
4. Blue
5. Light green
6. Lovat LOL

The trouble is, especially with the first two, that they are so similar.

Wouldn't it be much clearer if the order was
1. Teal
2. Blue
3. Green
4. Violet... ?

Then quotes within quotes would show up in sharper relief than at present.>>>>>

  Stonehenge: Can User: zisa16742029 be blocked from uploading games?

Over 90% of his uploads contain mistakes. Wrong players, wrong dates, wrong round numbers etc.

It's so bad I almost believe he's trolling.

Whats the game submission rate?

Oct-17-24  stone free or die: <CG> - why doesn't this player have the usual <Most Played Openings> <with White Pieces> / <with Black Pieces> openings boxes?

I thought having this was the default.

  MissScarlett: Any reason why the tournament standings table for United States Women's Championship (2024) has been consistently updating faster than United States Championship (2024)?
Oct-17-24  stone free or die: Thanks <steve>.

I have another request - a bit selfish as I know it will be useful for me, but it should also help other biographers as well. OK here goes.

Could you please update the auto-magic linking to Winter's articles?

Especially now that Winter is once again "posting" with regularity.

(Cf https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kll...)

Maybe you aren't aware of this, but it's a feature <Daniel> added for us, and the collective we use it quite a bit.

Type the following in plaintext:

<C.N. 3359>

And <CG> automatically turns it into a link, e.g.

<C.N. 3359>

Very useful.

But the code has been update, I believe, since <Daniel> died - so post-2018 articles aren't found.

Could you please fix this?

<C.N. 10899>
.

Oct-17-24  stone free or die: Technical details:

Compare these two links:

<C.N. 10898>

<C.N. 10899>

* * * * *

The autolink magic involves knowing how Winter archives his posts.

C.N. 10898 goes into a CG intermediary, but then on to https://www.chesshistory.com/winter/winter16- 7.htm

This was the last page archive when Daniel died. It seems that Daniel has a lookup table that map CN # into an archive #, e.g. 10898 -> 167.

There's a high water mark in the code, in this casde 10898. Any CN # beyond the mark is mapped to this page:

https://www.chesshistory.com/winter...

which is Winter's latest page. Of course it puts the anchor (aka fragment) since it assumes the CN of interest is in Winter's most recent batch.

(As the most recent page fills up, Winter migrates the CN onto an archive page.)

* * * * *

So, the <CG> lookup tables need updating. And some admin needs to periodically update as Winter creates new archive pages.

I hope this all this was helpful, and I hope even more that <CG> once again begins maintaining this very useful feature.

  Stonehenge: After uploading games via <Upload a PGN file>, <Update Event Name> doesn't work. Also, it says <No Processed Submissions> even after the games are actually processed.
Oct-20-24  stone free or die: Hey <CG> I just had a great idea - inspired by a spoiler <perf> just posted on <CG>'s sports page (bad perf!(*)).

<Can <CG> setup a mechanism for user's to ignore forums?>

We already have the machinery for ignoring users - how about the ability to blank out <Rogoff> or other forums selectively?

I'm sure some users would appreciate not seeing any indication of certain forums in the <kibitzing> page.

Ignoring <Rogoff> posts for all newbies might make a good default.

Whatda you think?

Shouldn't really be that hard to do code-wise.

* * * * *

(*) I have a friend who I watch the games with, and he had other commitments for the super-early Pats game in jolly old England. So he taped it for later this afternoon. I had wanted to watch it not knowing the result - though every true Pats' fan knows what the result is going to be.

Oct-24-24  stone free or die: Another request for <CG>...

Can we display the round number for a game for tournament game listings?

This includes for player game listings in a tournament, like the one here:

London (1883)/Johannes Zukertort

As shown in a recent forum, this listing leads people to believe that Zukertort lost his last three rounds in the tournament.

This is an affectation of the game listing - for whatever reason (e.g. I would sort tournament games by round number instead of by date).

Ignoring the issue of sorting, if <CG> were only to display the round number of the games, then users would avoid being misled.

Seems a reasonable request - and most chess GUI's do this already.
