 | | Tabanus: <<Susan>'s claim> You have to scroll a few more pages back. There you'll find where the discussion was started by herself. |

 | | Retireborn: Hello. I need to sign out temporarily, to clean up my hard drive, but I'm not sure I remember my password correctly. Is there a way cg can email me a new password, if necessary? Ta ever so. |

 | | Atterdag: <HMM: It looks like it comes off of a 1947 typewriter, IMO.> Okay, I see. There are numerous typefaces miming an old typewriter (Consolas, Gungsuh, Lucida Typewriter etc.) - often used in DOS and other operating systems. Perhaps your computer has cursed you with one of them. :-| Sorry, I don't know how to fix that. |
Aug-26-25 | | stone free or die: Thanks <saff> and <Tab>. (<Tab>'s comment especially provides the needed context.) |
Aug-26-25
 | | Susan Freeman: <Retireborn> send an email to chessames with the email address you used to register, and CG will help with a temporary password if you need one. |

 | | stevemcd87: <Susan Freeman: <stevemcd87> There has been some chatter in Rogoff to make Rogoff visible in recent kibitz searches. I think we should give it a chance. Uncensored of course.> I vote against it. The Rogoff page is basically unmoderated, so it’s probably best to keep it hidden from the general public. It had already been hidden since before my time, it briefly reappeared when the PID was updated. If I recall correctly, we hid it again at the request of other users. |
Aug-26-25
 | | Atterdag: Since I never visit the so-called Rogoff page (I have to be aware of my blood pressure) I don't care what CG does with it. I just think it is sad that the friendly looking Mr Rogoff and his good name should be attached to it. |
Aug-26-25
 | | Susan Freeman: The subject is hereby open to debate. |
Aug-26-25
 | | Susan Freeman: Mr Rogoff said he doesn't mind. He thinks it's funny. So do I. |
Aug-26-25
 | | Atterdag: If that's the case, then by all means. As said by others, those who have a passion for it will find it. |
Aug-26-25
 | | MissScarlett: <I vote against it.> What part of 'following orders' don't you understand? It was a Führerbefehl! <we hid it again at the request of other users> Which users? |
Aug-26-25 | | stone free or die: <<Missy> It was a Führerbefehl!> I don't recall <jnpope> weighing in as yet. |
Aug-26-25 | | stone free or die: <<Suzz> Mr Rogoff said he doesn't mind. He thinks it's funny. So do I.> Guess you didn't get the memo on the dozen or so other forums. FWIW - keeping the forum named <Rogoff> is an entirely different kettle of fish from putting it (whatever it's called) into recent kibitzing. By the by - when was the last time has Ken proffered such an opinion. I doubt he's seen much of its most recent content. |
Aug-27-25
 | | Retireborn: <Susan> I will do that. Thanks for your help! |
Aug-27-25
 | | jnpope: I'm against making Rogoff visible.
It's a highly trafficked kibitz and will appear at the top of the recent kibitz's 24/7 and as the "top kibitz" it will draw more attention to itself and become the thing <CG> is "best" represented by. Seems a shame to overshadow the reputation <CG> was slowly rebuilding and returning it to a urine soaked cesspit that drove away all the GMs that were once members of this site. But that's just my opinion. I don't have a financial stake in <CG>. |
Aug-27-25
 | | Chessical: My two cents' worth.
If you really want to advertise all that is the very worst of Chessgames.com, then go ahead and make the Rogoff page visible to the general public. |
Aug-27-25
 | | Tabanus: Seconded. |
Aug-27-25
 | | Susan Freeman: Well, Gee. I am surprised at the negative feedback. I am glad I asked. Of course I wll respect the general opinion. Steve is against it also. See <MissS>, that's why he didn't do as he was told on the hurry up. lol |
Aug-28-25 | | stone free or die: <<SF> Well, Gee. I am surprised at the negative feedback.> You shouldn't have been.
<Chessical>'s succinct summation is insightful and telling. |
Aug-28-25
 | | WannaBe: On my laptop, using Chrome, why games have become scroll bar within a scroll bar? (Frames?) This is new? |
Aug-28-25 | | stone free or die: Yeah, I think some recent <CG> changes (scroll bars and fonts) need to be backed out. |
Aug-28-25
 | | OhioChessFan: <Susan: I am glad I asked. Of course I will respect the general opinion.> Nonsense. You own the site. You're the general opinion. |
Aug-28-25 | | stone free or die: <<OCF> Nonsense. You own the site. You're the general opinion.> The last statement is utter nonsense. She sets policy, as owner, but certainly not the general opinion. Oh, I get it, you're signalling if she sets the wrong policy, and alienates the general user to the point of exodus, then by definitive those remaining will share her opinion. |

 | | HeMateMe: The Rogoff page is harmless, just high spirited B.S. I do agree with <Al Wazir's> suggestion, to start a new page <CG politics>, make it visible, and let people rant there. If's there's bad language block such user for 24 hours. If <CG Politics> is visible, and Rogoff is not, 99% of the people who post on Rogoff will immediately go to the Politics page, cleaning up the Ken Rogoff page. After all, there might be some legitimate interest in Rogoff's chess career. He came up with Andy Soltis, early '70s crew. That was back when players might be computer scientists, writers, chem engineers, economists, and chess was just a fun hobby. The early Rogoff games are interesting, he quit elite level chess to join the grown-ups world. |
Aug-30-25 | | stone free or die: Could someone be so kind as to help me locate <Daniel> talking about Easter-egg forums? By that I mean those forums, like <Rogoff>, <Odd Lie>, <Stumpers>, <Jeremy Lin>, <Doll> and the like, where the <CG> community repurposed the forums with off-topic discussion. I know he once mentioned how it found it unexpected, but amusing (maybe even charming?). |
