cu8sfan: If you want you may participate in <cu8sfan's Tournament Prediction Game on Chessgames.com>.

Rules:
1. Every kibitzer can make one prediction for the outcome of individual games of a tournament round that is in the cTPGoC.c. Predictions for future rounds are allowed. Predictions can usually be posted until the start of the games. If you post more than once for the same round the last post is valid.

2. Over the course of a tournament new participants can only enter the competition during the first three games of the tournament.

3. Predictions have to be posted on the cu8sfan chessforum. This is also where I will post seasonal standings and other information on the contest.

4. For every outcome predicted right a participant will get one point.

5. The winner of a tournament is the one who gets the most points in that tournament. If two players have the same score the one who has the better average per round will win the tournament.

6. Seasonal points will be calculated by the formula devised by fellow kibitzer <firebyrd>: Award accumulated points for being: - top 50%
- top 30%
- top 20%
- top 10%
- winner
- single winner
The percentages are taken from the number of participants that have played in more than one round. The numbers are rounded to the next higher integer.

7. I am not without fault. Errors in my calculations can be e-mailed or posted on the cu8sfan chessforum

8. I get to decide which tournaments will be in the cTPGoC.c and which ones won't.

9. I am running this tournament on my own. If you don't like it, fine. If you do, please participate and have fun.

Jan-09-06  iron maiden: <cu8sfan> Thanks for handling the prediction contest again this year. Good luck with everything!
Jan-09-06  firebyrd: Thanks, CG, for this neat feature. Thanks, cu8sfan, for organizing. Have fun predicting, everybody.
Jan-09-06  larrewl: <cu8sfan> For rule #2, do you mean new participants can only enter the first three games or rounds of a tournament? If you mean games, new people will not be able to enter after the first day of Corus.
Jan-09-06  EmperorAtahualpa: <cu8sfan> Hey, I thought <Bobak Zahmat> and <hidude> were taking care of the prediction contest for Corus?

cu8sfan: <larrewl> Of course you're right. This should say "2. Over the course of a tournament new participants can only enter the competition during the first three rounds of the tournament." Thanks for pointing this out.

<EmperorAtahualpa> You're kidding, right?

Jan-09-06  meloncio: Hello <cu8sfan> and everybody. Just visiting the new chessforum of the kibitzers I do appreciate. See you!

cu8sfan: Thanks, <meloncio>, I appreciate you stopping by.
Jan-09-06  Robin01: Thanks for handling this.
Jan-09-06  EmperorAtahualpa: <You're kidding, right?> Lol, actually not. First, I thought indeed that you were going to do the predictions, but then I read about <Bobak Zahmat> offering to do it. I guess I was too naive to get the joke. :)

My avatar is working on me I think!

Jan-09-06  Robin01: Question: How do I get to this forum of yours from the main page? I clicked on this site from the link you left on the Corus 2006 site. However, if I just want to come right to this forum site of yours to post, how is that done?
Jan-09-06

cu8sfan: <Robin01> The easiest way is to click on my name on any post I left somewhere.

Alternatively you can click on anyone's name which will take you to that profile. Now take a look at the URL. It will end in something like "chessuser?uname=EmperorAtahualpa". Now change that to "chessuser?uname=cu8sfan" and you're here.

The third way to get here is by typing the URL. The shortest way is http:// www.chessgames.com/~cu8sfan (without the space after / and before w).

Jan-09-06  Robin01: <cu8sfan> Thanks. Do we post here our predictions for the final outcome as well as individual daily predictions as the tournament goes along?
Jan-09-06

cu8sfan: <Robin01> This site is for individual daily predictions only. The final outcome contest is done by User: lostemperor and if he feels like doing it for Wijk aan Zee I'm sure he'll get his site set up soon.
Jan-09-06  Robin01: <cu8sfan> Thanks for all your help.

cu8sfan: Btw I don't want this to be the prediction forum only. (Almost) Any kind of discussion is welcome. Don't know yet what I'll specialize in. I plan to delete all predictions at the end of a tournament so y'all will be able to easily follow the other threads.
Jan-09-06  suenteus po 147: <I plan to delete all predictions at the end of a tournament so y'all will be able to easily follow the other threads.> Brilliant! However, for those of us who like to beef up their kibitzing totals through the contest this will come as a sad reality :)

Annie K.: Hi cu8sfan! :) Stopping by to say thanks again for all your work, and to get this page into my recent posts links. ;)

Haven't forgotten your HP question either, just didn't have time to reread HP3 yet.

<I plan to delete all predictions at the end of a tournament so y'all will be able to easily follow the other threads.>

Great idea! I'd just like to suggest that you wait with that for some time after the tournament results are published - say two weeks or so - so that anybody who thinks there was a mistake will have time to complain about it while the records are still available. :)

  cu8sfan: <Annie K.> Take your time with my question. Time paradoxa are always inconsistent so it doesn't really matter. (-;

Thanks for your suggestion. I will give users some time to double-check my results but two weeks is a bit long. Two weeks after a tournament is usually the time when the next super tournament begins.

Chnebelgrind: <cu8sfan> hello! <haven't had time yet> we all fare the same!
Jan-09-06  suenteus po 147: <samikd> The prediction contest that <cu8sfan> runs is the round by round prediction context.

Example:
<Predictions for round one:
Topalov-Kamsky 1-0
Anand-Tiviakov 1-0
Leko-Sokolov 1-0
Ivanchuk-Van Wely 1-0
Adams-Aronian 1-0
Bacrot-Mamedyarov 1-0
Gelfand-Karjakin 1-0>

The final standings prediction contest is run by <lostemperor> (see his user page) as <YouRang> explained.

Jan-10-06  yoozum: Wow, I see <cu8sfan>'s forum has gotten quite a lot of action in one day!
Jan-10-06  suenteus po 147: <yoozum> And it will get a ton more once the pairings are announced for the Corus Wijk aan Zee (2006) tournament :)
