Jan-10-06  suenteus po 147: <cu8sfan> I totally respect and approve of your decision to delete all the predictions once a tournament is over. But I will say I'm glad we have some permanent examples of the prediction contest on older tournament pages for posterity. If we are all here 20 years from now, it will be something to have those old contests to look back on with fondness :)
Jan-10-06  YouRang: Hi <cu8sfan>. I sent you revised software today in hopes that it will correctly work with your browser(s).
Jan-11-06  blingice: Thanks! How did you find those so readily?

cu8sfan: When you go to today's GotD the line right underneath the title reads <"Adams Family" (game of the day Jan-11-06)>. If you follow the link you get to the GotD archive. This is one year worth of GotDs. Finding "Broken Mirror" was easy and the Capa game was linked to on the kibitzing of that game.
Jan-11-06  shr0pshire: <cu8sfan> I think I found some correspondence games of at least master rating. I just asked chessgames.com to upload the national team championship with 872 games (I gave them the link to the pgns). And I think I might be able to find some more correspondence tournaments/games if you are interested.

cu8sfan: <shr0pshire> Thanks. I suppose you were referring to my question about a database of correspondence games. I was actually looking for one specific game I need to complete a book collection of mine. I can't remember the names of the players right now but I will post a question as to that game later.
Jan-11-06  larrewl: <cu8sfan> Do we post each Corus A round prediction here or on the Corus page?
Jan-11-06
Premium Chessgames Member
cu8sfan: <larrewl> All predictions for my (= the round by round) contest have to be posted here, on the cu8sfan chessforum. This will keep the Corus Wijk aan Zee (2006) page clean for deep discussions about the games and the tournament.
Jan-11-06  yalie: <cu8sfan> thanks for doing this for the nth time. i appreciate the time commitment and enthusiasm you have shown all along in running this contest.

I should be able to give my predictions round by round. But in case I cant, please take all draws as the default.

Thanks.

Jan-11-06  Chess Classics: <valie> As long as you don't show up, you'll win the prediction contest! :-)

Regards,
CC

Jan-11-06  YouRang: Hi <yalie>. You said: <I should be able to give my predictions round by round. But in case I cant, please take all draws as the default.>

It's not for me to speak for <cu8sfan>, but perhaps you can imagine how much additional work it would be for <cu8sfan> to manage the entry of "default" predictions for contestants.

I would recommend that you simply post your predictions for all rounds ahead of time (all draws if you like). If you want, you can repost different predictions later (your last prediction for a round is the only one that matters).

I'm pretty sure this would make life easier for <cu8sfan>. :)

cu8sfan: <me to play> My forum a popular spot? Get outta here!

OK, I'll delete the message when you've completed the lineup.

<YouRang> Don't worry, I'll just copy-paste <Drawer>'s line.

<all> The reason why <YouRang> stepped up here is that I'll be using his Contest Manager Program to easily compile your predictions and calculate the outcome. I hope that I'll be faster and the results will be more reliable. However for you this means that you'll need to follow some guidelines when posting predictions. I'll post them here later. Thanks for your cooperation! Can't wait for Wijk aan Zee to start!

Jan-11-06  YouRang: <cu8sfan> Very well. However, you should be aware that you don't have to enter posts for <DRAWER> -- the reporting software automatically includes a "pseudo-contestant" called <DRAWER>. :)

BTW, it also automatically includes a pseudo-contestant called <WHITER>, who always picks white, one called <BLACKER> who always picks black, and one called <RANDOM> who (sort of) predicts a result (white, black or draw) at random!

(The folks who do worse than <RANDOM> can go straight to the Hall of Shame :-D)

I can see that you are MUCH nicer than me. I could forsee lots of people requesting you to supply their default predictions for them. I would be too lazy to honor such requests, but it's your choice. :)

Joshka: <Cu8sfan> What's this now you're own personal page??....wow all premium members are entitles to this??...anyway thanks for the update on Hollingsworth!! Saturday would be good for me as well, what time? approx?...<Stevens> Looking at your avatar, I'm already getting ideas on how to market a match if we play!!:-)...My first match with a fellow on ICC was Traho, so I did the Battle of the T's. Next with Alpearson, and it was "Crossfire" Far left wing vs far right wing, and with that Yankee Logo, and me bleeding Indians Tribe blood...ahhh;-)

cu8sfan: <Joshka> Go ahead and have fun creating your own page. Ain't that a great feature?! Between prediction contests this page is for all kinds of discussion but I'd love all the baseball fans to gather here.

Maybe I didn't make myself clear. I have another game on Saturday and therefore won't be available then. But Sunday may be possible.

Joshka: <cu8sfan> Allright, Sunday is is Open for me as well, so far!:-)...Think this a an extraordinary feature from <chessgames.com>!! Thank you! Good idea as well to have the predictions on this one page also. Good luck to you in handling all this work, but I'm sure it's a labor of love;-)
Jan-12-06  Stevens: <but I'd love all the baseball fans to gather here> consider me gathered!

btw, what do you (and <joshka>) make of the Damon signing? It seems people are either not interested, not surprised, really excited, or really angry!

<joshka> as i said in the cafe, would love a match at some point when time permits. You said you wanted a victory after all!

cu8sfan: <btw, what do you (and <joshka>) make of the Damon signing? It seems people are either not interested, not surprised, really excited, or really angry!> Put me in the "not interested" section. I stopped following offseason baseball. It bores me. Who signed with whom for how much and left which team and got traded for whom... I don't care. I take a look at the spring rosters and then roll with it.
Jan-12-06  yoozum: I am extremely angry at Damon. He's such a sellout! Most Yankees fans aren't very happy, either, as they'd rather not have him on the team.
Jan-12-06  you vs yourself: Yankees have so many superstars, it's ridiculous. Rivera, Jeter, Rodriguez, Matsui, Damon, Johnson, Mussina, Sheffield...this kind of lineup should never lose, imo.

WannaBe: Ha! Yankees pays the most in luxury taxes, and still can't win the World Series!

As a life-time Dodgers fan, I laugh at the Yankees. I hope George Steinbrenner keeps on hiring expensive players (example, Kevin Brown) and fail/not make the play-offs!

Jan-12-06  NakoSonorense: As an Angels fan, I laugh at the yankees for having been eliminated by my favorite team twice in the las few years. Lol =)
Jan-12-06  Stevens: <and fail/not make the play-offs!> since when did they fail / not make the playoffs? About 95 ish?

It's a bummer those darn angels always make it and knock us out! Great team Anaheim though.

George has always had a thing about over priced and over the hill vets. Sometimes it works (Clemens) sometimes not (Brown.)

It's wierd that they play 162 games in a season and then play such short series to decide the biggest prize. Never made sense to me. The post season is just getting hot at the right time and of course some luck.

WannaBe: <Stevens> You are correct, apologies, that sentence should be changed/clarified to read: "Failures in the play-offs". Up 3-0 on Boston, then lose 4 straight, that had to be one of the biggest collapse.
Jan-12-06  YouRang: <WannaBe> Good thing you reminded him about that Boston series. I bet Yankee fans had forgotten all about it. ;)
