 | | cu8sfan: Play-by-play by <YouRang>. (-: Tough break there in the bottom of the 7th for the Dodgers. With Arizona leading the Giants 7-3 there will be no change in the magic numbers. The Cubs lost to the Brewers and missed a chance to shave 2 off their magic number. Stay tuned, we'll be back, right after this. |
Sep-18-08 | | YouRang: Yeah, little did I know that when the score was tied at 7, that the Pirates hadn't yet even scored half their runs for the night. :-\ The crazy thing about the Pirate's big bottom of the 7th -- The Pirates had 2 out and bases empty. For some reason, the Dodgers decided this would be a good time for a pitching change. In came a string of arson squad pitchers to surrender EIGHT runs all after there were two out. Of course, the Pirates also got 4 runs in the 5th after they had 2 out and bases empty. Freak game... |

 | | WannaBe: <YouRang> That's nothing!! One time, top of the ninth, at Dodgers Stadium against the (then) Montreal Expos (now D.C. Nationals). Dodgers leads it by 8 (??) runs, and promptly lost the game. Reminds me of this year's Mets bullpen, (what bullpen??) |
Sep-18-08 | | YouRang: <WannaBe> I suppose we should give the Dodgers some slack. Before yesterday's game, they had an impressive record of 50-6 in games where they scored 5 or more runs. So, I suppose they were due to blow one. However, I hate seeing the Dodgers fail to reduce their magic number -- or more to the point, I hate seeing Arizona reduce their magic number by two (from 17 to 15). |

Sep-18-08 | | azaris: <cu8sfan> So where did you do your degree? ETHZ? |
Sep-19-08
 | | cu8sfan: <azaris: <cu8sfan> So where did you do your degree? ETHZ?> Yes. Are you in Geneva now? Are you working at CERN? |
Sep-19-08 | | azaris: <Are you in Geneva now? Are you working at CERN?> No and no. I'm at the EPFL though. |
Sep-21-08 | | just a kid: <cu8sfan>I am not a big cubs fan.I root for the Twins and D-backs.I am hoping the cubs(since the D-Backs are out of it.) win against the D-Rays(if the twins don't make it) in the World Series.=) P.S:Congrats for thhe cubs for clinching their division. |
Sep-21-08
 | | cu8sfan: <just a kid> Thank you. Next year is this year! If the D'Rays lose to the Cubs in a World Series this is actually pretty close to the result Marty McFly reads on a billboard in 'Back to the Future II'. <azaris> Have a nice time in Lausanne. I heard they have a Metro now. I'm a bit sad to see Yankee Stadium close. I was there when the Yankees scored 5 runs against the Indians in game 1 of the 1998 ALCS and also when Chuck Knoblauch's boner cost them game 2. |
Sep-26-08 | | YouRang: Good playoff races this year, eh?
Brewers or Mets (or Philles)? White Sox or Twins?
I understand that there's a chance that the Dodgers & Cubs will face each other in the 1st round of playoffs, if the Mets make the playoffs. I just want you to know that I won't be offended if you root for the Cubs. ;-) |
Sep-26-08
 | | WannaBe: <YouRang> Yes, if the wild card winner comes from the central, Dodgers-Cubs. Else, Dodgers - East winner and Cubs - wild card winner. The AL playoffs picture is bit more muddled. |
Sep-26-08 | | YouRang: <WannaBe> Right -- I misspoke earlier. Also, there are other subtlties in the NL:
Philadelphia is by no means assured of winning their division, or even making the playoffs for that matter. Also, the Houston Astros still have a looooong shot (they have to win last 4 while Mets & Brewers both drop their last 3 -- which would produce a 3-way wildcard tie!). |
Sep-28-08 | | YouRang: Boy, one almost has to feel sorry for the Mets, fizzling out at home to exit the season. Almost. |
Sep-28-08
 | | WannaBe: Mets have done that two years in a row!! |
Sep-28-08 | | NakoSonorense: Dodgers vs Cubs! |
Sep-29-08
 | | cu8sfan: So the smoke has cleared and we have Cubs vs. Dodgers and Phillies vs. Brewers. <YouRang> It's nothing personal, right? (-: GO CUBS!
Sep-29-08 | | YouRang: <cu8sfan><It's nothing personal, right? (-:> Not at all. In fact, I was rather expecting that you would end up deciding to root for the Cubs. I'm sure it was a tough decision, but you do have a reputation to maintain, after all. ;-) If the Cubs beat the Dodgers, I'll be rooting for the Cubs too. But it will be an interesting series. Of all the NL playoff teams, the Cubs had the best record, and the Dodgers had the worst. However, the Dodgers finished the season as the hottest team. Manny was a super addition for the Dodgers -- just what they needed. Anyway, if the Dodgers lose, those of us in Southern California always have the Angels (who finished with the best record in basesball with 100 wins). :-) |
Sep-29-08 | | YouRang: Checking up on the Tigers-White Sox game. The Tigers were up 2-1, but their starting pitcher went out with an injury, and their relievers appear to be cracking under the pressure. Without getting any outs, they've (so far) given up two walks and THREE wild pitches to tie the game and the White Sox are threatening to get more... |
Sep-29-08 | | YouRang: Make that THREE walks and THREE wild pitches -- bases loaded, one out. And they're now bringing in relief pitcher number three... |
Sep-29-08 | | YouRang: As you might have expected...GRAND SLAM!!!!
Detroit's bullpen will never live this down. Whatta bunch of clowns. :-p |
Sep-30-08 | | YouRang: A note on yesterday's Twins-White Sox game --
The big hit was Alexei Ramirez' grand slam to break a 2-2 tie. What I didn't know at the time was this was his FOURTH grand slam of the season, and with it, he set a new rookie record! :-) |
Oct-01-08
 | | cu8sfan: Let the playoffs begin!
Does anybody know what the bookies' odds are now (and were, on APR-01) for the Cubs to win the World Series? The good thing this year is that we don't have to play Atlanta, who has always been a stumbling block in the past. Actually, we're not playing any team from the southeast, no Braves, no Marlins. The Rays of course are something different... Does anyone know if Steve Bartman has gotten tickets to any of the games? |
Oct-01-08 | | YouRang: Ouch! A lot of grand slams lately. :-)
Dodgers 4, Cubs 2 going into bottom of 5th... |
Oct-01-08 | | YouRang: Looks like your Cubbies are in trouble. Manny homers, DeWitt scores on double & error & Blake's single and the Cubs are down by 4 with two innings left against the NL's best pitching staff. But they're a tough team -- I doubt that they'll go away quietly. |
Oct-01-08 | | YouRang: Well, they did go sort of quietly after all...
Three homers tonight for the Dodgers, which is not typical for them (they ranked just 13th out of 16 NL teams in homers). I'm sure the Cubs hated to lose the home opener and surrender home field advantage in a best-of-5 series. They'll need to beat the Dodgers in L.A. and win 3 of 4 now... |
