 | | cu8sfan: Well, the Cubs were cooling off at the end of the season whereas the Dodgers got in there red hot. But I don't think anything's decided yet. |
Oct-02-08 | | YouRang: Sure, nothing is decided, except perhaps that tonight's game is pretty much a "must-win" for the Cubs. If the Cubs win tonight, they can go to L.A. reasonably confident that they can win at least 1 of 2 there, and then bring it back to Chicago for game 5. But the Dodgers shouldn't be underestimated. They're much better now than their season win-loss record suggests, and they've been tough to beat at home. |
Oct-02-08 | | NakoSonorense: I don't know about you, but I would love to see an all Los Angeles World Series! |
Oct-02-08 | | NakoSonorense: Actually, I know about <cu8sfan>... He would not love to see that happen. =) Countdown before posts get deleted: 10, 9, 8,... |
Oct-02-08 | | YouRang: <cu8sfan> might accept an all Chicago World Series. :-) |
Oct-02-08 | | YouRang: Probably the best World Series match-up for attracting large TV ratings would be Angels-Cubs. Angels = Los Angeles is 2nd largest TV market (after New York -- which has no team in the playoffs). Cubs = Chicago is 3rd largest TV market, and with the Cubs trying to win on the 100th anniversary of their last win, we have the kind of story that would attract a huge amount of interest -- perhaps even world-wide attention. (Heck, I know someone in Switzerland who would be watching! ;-) Add to that the teams are far apart, rather than confined to the same geographical region, which helps in terms of national audience. |
Oct-02-08 | | YouRang: Ohhh. A nightmare 2nd inning for the Cubs...
They should have allowed nothing, but after 2 errors they surrender 5! Let's see if they can come back and make a game of it. |

 | | cu8sfan: There is no joy in Mudville. |
Oct-03-08 | | YouRang: <cu8sfan: There is no joy in Mudville.> I think that's part of the Cub's problem. They're all tensed up and not having any fun. They seem to be playing nervously, giving away 8 walks one day and committing 4 errors the next day. The result: two ugly losses at home. A little ray of light: There is precedence for a team to lose the first 2 games at home in a best-of-5 series, and come back to win. That was in 2001, when after dropping the first 2 against the Oakland A's, the New York Yankees won the next 3. Of course the Yankees manager then was -- Joe Torre. |

 | | cu8sfan: <Of course the Yankees manager then was -- Joe Torre.> And of course, the Yankees are the Yankees and the Cubs are the Cubs. |
Oct-03-08 | | YouRang: Downright dispair in mudville.
Not only are the Chicago Cubs down 0-2, but now the Chicago White Sox just lost their game to the Rays and are also down 0-2. |
Oct-03-08 | | just a kid: I don't believe the twins lost the playoffs on 1 pitch! It was a good run though. The Cubs have themselves in a hole.2-0 dodgers =(.I made a collection named Game Collection: Switzerland! |
Oct-04-08 | | YouRang: Oddly enough, all five playoff series are 2-0, with the top seed team (Cubs & Angels) being down 0-2. :-\ |
Oct-04-08 | | just a kid: <Yourang>Wait I thought there was 4 series? |
Oct-05-08 | | YouRang: <just a kid: <Yourang>Wait I thought there was 4 series?> Hmmm, yes, I was off by 25% :-p |
Oct-05-08 | | YouRang: A tough time to be a cu8s fan. :-(
When your team has such a good season, filled with promise and even a sense of destiny -- having them just get summarily blown away in a 0-3 sweep is hard to swallow. None of the games were even very close. The Angels hope to avoid that same fate...
BTW, I was earlier talking about the best World Series for attracting a large TV audience... Well, a Dodgers-Red Sox series would do quite well. Again, two major markets, east vs. west, plus the interesting convergence of old acquaintences: Former Red Sox stars Manny Ramirez and Derek Lowe, and former Yankees manager Joe Torre... Plus, L.A. would like to get even with Boston for the Celtics-Lakers series. :-) |

 | | WannaBe: <YouRang> You forgot about Nomar G. (Another ex-Boston), and remember my post about first to clinch?! |
Oct-05-08 | | just a kid: <Yourang>Yes a time of despair for Cubs fans.Oh well Go RAYS! |
Oct-06-08 | | YouRang: In the NL: Dodgers-Phillies
The AL yet undecided, as the White Sox and Angels manage to stave off elimination. The Angels just *barely* managed to stay alive in a very tense 12-inning game at Boston. The Red Sox had bases loaded in the 10th and a runner at 2nd in the 11th, but couldn't get the key hit. The Angels finally stopped that post-season losing streak vs. Boston at 11 games. |
Oct-07-08
 | | cu8sfan: This was supposed to be our year. And a fun season it's been. Now we're back at square one, and the doubts are coming back, the nagging doubts, will I ever see them win? are they ever going to make it? Red Sox fans are over it, as are White Sox fans. The bleacher bums see another season go down the drain. O well, maybe next year. |
Oct-07-08 | | brankat: <cuBsfan> "Cien anos de soledad" :-) Sincere condolences. Yes, maybe next year! |
Oct-07-08 | | YouRang: <cu8sfan: This was supposed to be our year. > Ah, but for the poor Cubs, their year is never "this year". Their year shall forever remain "next year". ;-) On the positive side:
There's probably some 99-year old Cubs fan out there who was born just after their last title, who is determined to live to see them win their next one. The Cubs are keeping that guy alive! |
Oct-07-08 | | YouRang: The Angels pulled a "Cubs" last night. Normally a good team for excution and fundamentals, the Angels suffered a meltdown on a suicide squeeze play. With the runner Willits racing toward home on a 2-0 pitch with one out in the top of the 9th, Aybar MISSED the bunt leaving Willits hung out to dry. Suddenly, it's 2 out and bases empty and the Angels come up empty. Naturally, the Red Sox come up in the bottom of the 9th to punish the Angels, with a clutch 2-out hit to knock in the game to win the game -- and the series. :-\ So, what do you think the World Series Matchup will be? I'd like to see Dodgers-Red Sox. My gut tells me it will be Phillies-Red Sox. |
Oct-07-08 | | NakoSonorense: The Angels seem to be cursed, too. I think this is the 3rd time in a row that they have been eliminated by the Red Sox. Pretty amazing considering that the Angels beat them 8 to 1 during the regular season. But the dodgers will avenge them. I'm hoping for a Dodgers-Red Sox WS, too. I hate those Massachusettians... |
Oct-07-08
 | | cu8sfan: I don't know about the Phillies-Dodgers Series. I'm pretty sure the Red Sox will get in, though. That's good. I've always had a soft spot for the Red Sox 'cus they were kind of like the Cubs until 2004. And if they get in we'll get a World Series of old traditional clubs. Baseball is all about history and this is why no one really cares about the Marlins or D'backs winning a World Series and no one would care about the Rays winning one. |
