It's devilishly difficult to rent an adz hauling mule these days. I'm pining for the fjords of Nerdistan.

Oct-31-12  Open Defence: have you ever tried to make an ass out of a mule ? I hear even with stem cell research it cant be done.....
Oct-31-12  Boomie: <Deffi>

Now I'm confused. I don't know if "ass hauling mule" is an ass on a mule or a mule on an ass. Why don't they just hail a cab?

jessicafischerqueen: <Annie> Beatles Band is over at <Travis'> house as usual.

You may be horrified to learn I haven't started reading my Magyar book yet, but in my defence I spent the last few weeks downloading rare music from "Balaton," which proves, to my mind, that the future of great Indie Music lies in Hungary.

As does the future of Indie Film, in the hands of the magnificent <Tarr Bela>, although I know you said you don't watch much cinema.

Here is one of my favorite <Balaton> tracks: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1im...

Extra points if you can recognize the important historical figure in the video.

Finally, here is one of the most beautiful passages in film history from <Tarr Bela's> immortal "Khrozat." I uploaded this on to my experimental <tigranspetrosian> youtube channel. I use this channel to test copyright claims to find out which music is safe to use in my chess documentaries, if I ever finish one again.

Remind me never to start working on <Johnny Alekhine> ever again, I could have made two other films in this time and I haven't even started writing teh script.

Here is from "Khrozat," so beautiful Magyar song of total desolation, and as a Magyar speaker you are the only one around who will actually understand the lyrics:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DTg...

(be sure to watch it on "720p" to get the full glory of Tarr's black and white film work)

jessicafischerqueen: <tbone> amazing Sitar- that's George playing it?

It's funny that Floyd made their early career specializing in the "Psychedelic Scene," but never mentioned any debt to the Beatles, whose mother of all Psychedelic records, some say the best record of all time- "Sergeant Pepper"- predated the Floyd work.

This is really odd when you consider that Floyd were signed to the same label, recorded at Abbey Road, and used the same soundboard man as the Beatles.

I wonder if the two groups ever hung out?

Annie K.: <Jess> heh, thx for directions.

BTW, yes, I actually am a Beatles fan too, at least historically. Not that I stopped liking them, but it's just been so long since I spent much time listening to music.

Dunno, possibly a younger pic of Víg Mihály?

Very nicely done film excerpt / song from Kárhozat (Damnation, or Doom, or something like that...) - sensitive, nuanced. I like it, even without knowing the full context.

But you still can't get your Honorary Hungarian diploma until you read that book. I didn't get my Honorary Hungarian diploma until I read it, either. ;)

Berlin (1881)

Two things of note: 1) the introduction can be edited by the crack(ed) team of volunteers just like player bios, and 2) there is now a trick to get crosstables to line up properly (and it works with game collections as well!). Oh, and year can now be corrected along with day, month, and round for individual games without administrative action, but that's a separate improvement.

Jess, George always played sitar on their records as he was the only Beatle who knew who to play it. How about that cool backward guitar? 1 time The Floyd wanted to meet The Beatles. The Fab 4 were in the studio on LSD. They weren't sure who met who. ; P
