FSR: <jfq> My friend of over 40 years, Albert Chow, died three days ago of cancer at age 57. He was a legend of Chicago chess. I would like to have chessgames post a photo of him on his page. I think the picture "FM Albert Chow at 2016 Chicago Open" from the article https://www.thechessdrum.net/blog/2... is a good one. I am a friend of Daaim Shabazz, who took the picture and wrote the article. I'm sure he would be happy to let chessgames use it. If I get his permission, can someone put up the picture?

<FSR> I am sorry to hear of your friend Albert Charles Chow .

I sent this email to <Stephen>, who is the current administrator who knows cg.com best at this time:

Hello Stephen!

F.S.R. (National USCF Master Frederick Rhine) asked me this morning if I could help him get a photo of Albert Chow on his player page. Master Chow died yesterday and F.S.R. and others would like to get a photo put on his player page here: Albert Charles Chow

F.S.R. informed me in his forum that his friend took the photo of Master Chow, and that if necessary he can easily obtain legal copyright permission to publish the photo on our website. I know that Daniel stopped adding most photos because of possible copyright problems for chessgames.com.

Here is the post F.S.R. wrote me this morning: jessicafischerqueen chessforum (kibitz #37286)

I hope you can help us with this.

Nov-15-21  Benzol: Hi Jess
Just thought I'd pop in to say hello and let you know that I'm still alive and well. Retired from work but have busier than ever building a new house in the Hawkes Bay area. Will be around when I have more time to spare.
Cheers.

<OhioChessFan>

I've been wondering for days.

Wassabi?

This is the best I've come up with so far: You wrote all of those puns yourself, under the influence of a particularly tart Wassabi you ate at a sushi restaurant.

FSR: Dunno if you've heard the exciting announcement. Following the world championship match, the contestants will play in an open tournament in Oklahoma! And not just once: it's planned to be a recurrent event with everything: Magnus, Nepo, sunny weather, even a woman of easy virtue and great legs!! (Kinda strange, that last one.) TULSA OPENS: MAGNUS, SUN, GAMS, NEPO, A SLUT!

The fun continues after the games are over: TULSA NIGHTLIFE'S A BOOZY ZOO: BASE FILTH, GIN, A SLUT! (She really gets around, apparently.)

<FSR> heh... Good Heavens!

If there is ever a market for a chess master who can write filthy newspaper headlines in palindrome, you will be the main man!!

IMPRESSIVE.

I was just fiddling about trying to make a modest (short) palindrome on my own, and I was unable to do it...

FSR: <jfq> I didn't create those palindromes myself. Someone on Twitter came up with the nightlife/boozy zoo one. I just added "Tulsa" and "a slut" on the ends. As for the Carlsen/Nepo/Tulsa Open one, it occurred to me that <Tulsa Open> was <Nepo a slut> backwards. I requested help from the Style Invitational Devotees group on Facebook to come up with a suitable palindrome using that as a base, and Jay Banks came through.

<FSR> Good work on revealing the full provenance.

I still say you should get the lion's share of the credit on the grounds that the <Tulsa Open>/<Nepo a slut> is the construction that drives the comedy in this palindrome.

<Style Invitational Devotees> this sounds like a cult! How can I get in brah will you put in a good word for me.
