Some years ago I came up with a new but simple system to calculate the final standings of a tournament including all players. This is how it goes:

For each correct standing you'll get a maximum amount of points. Each prediction deviation from the actual player standing in the tournament, will deduct one point from your total (ABSOLUTE RANKER).

In case of a shared player's standing the average standing counts (both actual and in your predictions).

The SQUARE RANKER, squares your predictions' deviations. Here only medals are awarded if the winner s is not the same person s as in the absolute ranker.

Same goes for the The PAIR BETTING RANKER compare all possible pair outcomes of the tournament participants.

The three best predictions will get Real Virtual Gold Silver and Bronze!

Note: only one set of medals is awarded (in the absolute ranker) unless another ranker produces a different winner.

Special thanks to <YouRang> who made a software to calculate these numbers.

Our new contest manager for game results prediction User: Golden Executive during the tournament also ([1-0], [1/2], [0-1])!

or predict the # of moves in User: ohiochessfan organized by <chessmoron>

Enjoy!

lostemperor: As for the futute tournaments: things are unsure about Linares. Also Dortmund, perhaps only 6 players, is less interesting for this contest. I was planning to do at least two tournaments in the second half of this year, Tal Memorial, London or Nanjing!

But since this is a FINAL STANDINGS PREDICTION FORUM, you can in the future always post predictions here on tournaments. In case of five predictions or more I will run <YouRang>'s CONMAN calculation software at least at the end of the tournament and with 12 participants we can make it an official tournament (so you the players decide :)). However I will only make an eleborate (daily) report of tournaments I announce in advance.

Mar-25-11  rogge: <emperor>, thanks for running the contest, always fun :) Congrats to the winners!

Congrats to <cromat>'s 'Triple Crown' win and all the other winners!

(Kramnik was surely a very bitter disappointment for my prediction. :()

  lostemperor: MISSED CHANCES:

$0.00,Gashimov-above-Karjakin, (0 winners)
$0.00,Gashimov-above-Kramnik, (0 winners)

Only two correct pairs are not predicted by any of the 12 predictors/contestants (+ 2 virtual contestants). Which just to show you how strong the competition was! ;-)

lostemperor: Rest me to post the best prediction 'Triple Crown', of AMBER 2011 of 'comeback kid' <cromat>

6. Grischuk
7. Gelfand

Premium Chessgames Member
lostemperor: I believe <cromat> did also well on Grischuk and Gelfand:)

Predictions' Deviations per player:

Deviation,Player
88,Kramnik
54,Grischuk
48,Gashimov

Mar-25-11  YouRang: Hey, a second and third place finish -- not bad! 2011 is off to a good start (at least in this very narrow sense).

Anyway, thanks for running the contest. I did have hopes for getting gold. But while I did okay in placing Grischuk high and Kramnik low, Nakamura didn't do nearly as well as I expected.
