 | | moronovich: Hello dear <morf> !
Yes I am also looking forward to exchanging ideas and strategies after the game. And an interesting game you have with the <Count> ! Perhaps we dont need Fischer Random, when we have people like you around !? |
| Mar-12-19 | | morfishine: Dear <moronovich> That's an interesting comment on Fischer Random or Chess960. I think its important to exercise one's brain, if not, whats the point? Fischer put it very well in an interview when he encouraged 'You have your brain, now think' I always thought that was quite succinct and accurate |
Mar-12-19
 | | moronovich: I agree <morf> ! Trying to use the brain for invention, imagination, how to react when not in the comfort zone, facing virgin territory and so forth should be valued much higher than copying and memorizing. In chess and in life as well. |
| Mar-13-19 | | morfishine: Dear <moronovich> I hope you like my temporary avatar. Its the perfect picture of Tal I think. He's either smiling at a good joke he just heard, or he told one, and he's reacting to their reactions. |
Mar-13-19
 | | moronovich: Yes <morf>,it is a great avatar relecting one of the all times greatest and one of mine old favourites too.
When he won the World Chmapionship match,he said he was filled with sunshine.Which may be what this picture/avatar shows. |
| Mar-14-19 | | morfishine: And what's funny Dear <moronovich> is Tal has not been one of my favorite players. I have read his books and love them for their reality and self deprecating approach, but for some reason, I never felt a huge warmth with Tal I only like this photo for its viewable intrinsic and pleasurable value |
| Mar-14-19 | | Count Wedgemore: Tal has never been one of my favourite players either. My personal preference and style of play is more aligned to positional chess and profound strategical ideas, as opposed to tactical brilliancies and elegant combinations (which, of course, is where Tal excelled), so I've always been more into guys like Petrosian and Karpov. I've had great joy studying their games, even if I don't understand all the subtleties of their rich and complex play, of course. But there is no doubt that Tal was an incredibly exciting and entertaining player. It is no wonder he has so many fans, and is still remembered so fondly. And he was a great writer and annotator. His book about his 1960 WCC Match against Botvinnik is, in my not so humble opinion, one of the best chess books ever written. Excellent reading that I would recommend to everyone. |
Mar-15-19
 | | moronovich: Morning <Count> ! Great post at the bookies and thnak you for expressing my thoughts even better than what I could !
My play was also much closer to Petro,Andersson and Karpov (style wise, not strenght;).But that may be why Tal was my hero.He did what was my wildest dreams, but wasn´t able to do.But also because his games,in a way, were adventourous like fairytales, like crimestories, like ballads, like liuetennant Dunbar (Dances with Wolwes) when he rides on his horse Cisco in a rain of bullits. And make it ! Off the board he was,at least to me,a kind of Charlie Chaplin figure. The vagabond against the establishment.Much like my own life turned out to be.
But have I lived a conventional life on a public office with life filled with daily routines,I may have had him as a (chess)hero for these reasons…;) Normally I dont post this early. But today was an exception and it has been nice to be in your company and may you enjoy your day and the weekend. Arrividerci. |
| Mar-15-19 | | morfishine: <moronovich> I am glad they removed the fifth tournament from the championship leg. You put it simply that you were basing your wagers on 4 tournaments. Such a perfect and irrefutable argument. Bravo and good luck for this last tournament, it should be a doozy! <Count Wedgemore> On your comment: <...His book about his 1960 WCC Match against Botvinnik is, in my not so humble opinion, one of the best chess books ever written. Excellent reading that I would recommend to everyone> I completely agree, I have this book. One thing it shows is how hard a worker Tal was. I don't think the general chess public grasps that he was such an intense worker at chess. |
Mar-15-19
 | | moronovich: Mee too <morf> ! Yes sometimes simple words are the most powerfull. But I will also add that the way <Count Wedgemore> described the situation was right to the point and covered all the bases. And good luck with you too for the last rounds.St Louis is always a pleasure to visit with the wonderful team,Maurice,Yasser and Jenni. |
| Mar-18-19 | | virginmind: Hey <moronovich>, 25 degrees today in Iasi, if you can believe it, but cold est de retour demain, bah, on verra - and we'll try not to freeze ;) Some chess, of course, but I don't like that I keep making big mistakes, blunders, sometimes when I have a won game. EICC started today in Skopje and a lot of interesting players to follow. I feel quite good. Maybe it's the spring. Thank you for the kind wishes and I send the same to you and Hannah. I hope you had nice moments by the sea. |
| Mar-23-19 | | morfishine: Hello <moronovich> Sorry for the belated note, I want to wish you the best in the final tournament of the Championship Leg! |
Mar-23-19
 | | moronovich: Thanks a lot <morfishine> And definately the same to you. This thing aint over yet !.. And btw : I have enjoyed yours and the <Count> s game.Could we perhaps have a second one after this one is finished !? |
| Mar-23-19 | | virginmind: I hope <achieve> is all right, he made a very short visit here and promised he'll return. |
Mar-23-19
 | | moronovich: Good evening <virginmind> ! Yes you are right-he promised to return and let us hope he is safe and fine! I am trying to get into the St Louis tournament were a lot is happening right now,but never too late to wish you a fine weekend,or at least what is left off it !? I´ll post you again in one of the next days.
See you around and say hello to Maria too !
p.s. my sister is comming for to stay a couple of days in april.Directly, not from St.Louis but Louisville,Kentucky,USA. |
| Mar-24-19 | | morfishine: Dear <moronovich> I warmly receive your hope for there to be another game after this one is finished and hope so as long as <Count Wedgemore> is agreeable I most heartily think he is :)
***** |
| Mar-25-19 | | Count Wedgemore: Of course we can have another game, <morf>! This has been great fun. And I am glad we have entertained the spectators :) I look forward to hear your assessment of the game afterwards, <moro>. I wonder what you think.. Some possible scenarios:
*Alt.A: Impressed by the high level play, <moronovich> enthusiastically applaud on the sidelines. *Alt.B: Appalled by the horrible display, <moronovich> shakes his head in disgust. *Alt.C: Something in between.. |
| Mar-25-19 | | morfishine: Great <Count Wedgemore>! I'm glad you have enjoyed it as much as I have! This has been a tricky game |
Mar-26-19
 | | moronovich: <*Alt.B: Appalled by the horrible display, <moronovich> shakes his head in disgust.> No,no mes amis.Au contraire. That is the last thing I would do.Actually I enjoy your game a lot and find it refreshing compared with all the long remembered computerlines the topplayers use now adays. And often the same openings again and again. Two mornings ago I found your position in my old head some minutes after I woke up but still in my bed.Discovered some migthy lines for white, till I reremembered that the white king was still on e1 !!….;) |
Mar-27-19
 | | moronovich: Good evening dear <virginmind> ! Another magic afternoon with JWH.I am very gratefull.Very. And did you see the battle Swiztterland -Denmark !? 8 minuttes to go 3-0 and fulltime 3-3 !! not an everyday experience my friend :) and i even made some money on it as I had a draw in the Portugal match and in this one too :)… Quite nerve wrecking-to put it mildly…. All is well and quite here in the valley.Hannah is enjoying here working place and my health seems to be ok and yesterday I found my old bycicle and to my delightfull surprise realized that it was in a fine shape. As i hope it will bring me to the same shape. At St.Louis now and enjoying it in the usual way.Fine team and an uneven field were everything can happen.Though on of the big guns will come out on top-again..And yet :no again as Sam Shankland won it last year.----one of those surprise we need as the spectators. I hope you,and Maria, are doing fine, health and otherwise. looking for ward to hear from you and seend you all my best wishes. See you down or up the road.
Hoka Hey. |

| Mar-28-19 | | virginmind: Hello! Magic is great, whenever we're able to touch it. I've had a few magical moments in life, as I can tell. Then again, there's magic and magic. Or is it not? Been following the EICC mostly, and less the events in Saint Louis, for some reason. Also a bit of tennis, over the ocean. Of course, the daily chess, sometimes rewarding, but lately, as I think I told you, less so. And I see you've been playing some correspondence games with fellows here, good luck! :) I didn't know about that game (I assume in football), if so I know we also played two, one against Sweden (which we lost, 2-1) and the other against Feroe Islands - I don't know the result but at some point we were having a one point advantage. By the way, some of the matches at the next EFC will be played in Romania. I'm glad you are both well and wish this will last long. I feel fine, generaly speaking, also Maria. She has been discussing lately with some folks from Denmark regarding a project to be implemented in Iasi (it's about a science hub for kids), pending approval for financing. Weather morose since a few days, cold and cloudy. We were planning a weekend trip to Slanic Moldova, but most likely we're postponing it. Hugs. |

| Mar-30-19 | | virginmind: In the mean time, here's my latest blitz, which I've managed to win but was, of course, marred by mistakes. Worth for the switch in the end though.
