"Play the board AND the man ! ".
But mostly the board.
Was born in Elsinore,Denmark,1953.And I am still proud of it.As I hope everyone is proud of hers/his startingpoint.

In many aspects life and chess do mirror each other IM experience. As science and belief goes hand in hand.So many "rules of thumbs" and many "exceptions" from the rule. I do agree with Bent Larsen who once said that someone who cannot contain a paradoxe is not using the full capacity of his brain.Actually I am convinced that there are no parodoxes, but perspectives which are more bright or flexible than others...

Though some obviously are borned under more easygoing circumstances than others,I will second our esteemed fellowkibitzer <zarg> who underlines that "luck" is also somehing that we create ourselves. Ourselves, but also together IM experience.
I try to live my life as if Jesus or Buddha knocked on the door , I would wellcome them as friends . And if they didn´t show up, it would be fine anyway.

Jan-28-20  morfishine: Hello Dear <moronovich> I hope all is well with you and your family and that this winter has not been too severe

It has actually been quite cold here SE of Mississippi, but it happens from time to time, now we are having a second week of quite cool temps, thats two whole weeks of very cold temperatures, we like that! And its perfect weather for firing up the grill outside and doing a BarBQ and meeting friends, etc.

Well the Dear <Count Wedgemore> and myself are starting another game soon, maybe this day or tomorrow. I want to say I always eagerly welcome your commentary and posts for their accuracy, earthiness, cleverness and warmth

Best always, morf

moronovich: Hi my dear <morfishine> !

And thanks for the visit.

So you are having exact the opposite temperatures than we are having here with and endless grey rainy season which is neither here, nor there. We are some who dearly miss the frost, the snow and the refelection from the sun when it visits this house of mirrors.Mediocracy has prevailed and I almost feel like Salieri in "Amadeus".I used to have friends in high places, but they dont answer the phone…):

But I am glad you enjoy yours and why not top it with a BBQ !? And a game with our dear <Count> ? I promise I´ll be ringside while I am looking forward to it.To me there is something more alive with your local clash compared to the big guns.KInd of leaving the big City and stay a while at the countryside !

So all the best wishes to both of you with the game.May Caissa inspire you and may all your pawns be ready for a touchdown.

I am sending you and your family all my best regards and see you around.

Sincerely

-moro-

Feb-15-20  virginmind: It's going to be among Caruana and Liren, probably, but let's not underestimate Radjabov's, Giri's and, who knows, Grischuk's chances.

  moronovich: Hiillo my friend !

Agreed about Caruana and Ding.Who probably bear 80% of all the winning chances combined.

Next in my book are the two russians Grischuk and Nepo.

It is difficult to see the others have any significant chances. But you never now.It is chess,it is sport !

Wonder if the chinese will be influenced (chesswise) by the coronavirus ?

Ciao

Feb-15-20  virginmind: Hello my dear, I was about to mention Nepo too, but, for some strange and hard to grasp for now reason I decided not to. Could it have been for his hair style in the past year or so? Nah, it's not that. Why then so? He smiles most of the time, he's never arrogant or absent minded, he's just a straightforward friendly guy. Former second of Carlsen. What's not to like? Chess strength? Well he had his ups and downs, but who hasn't. OK, he's not among, say, the five best, for now. But...you never know. Do you? And still, I just can't put him there. Among those with a strong chance. I really hope until the end of the tournament to find out the reason, really.

Radjabov? Hm, you may be right, after all. He did have a kind of return of form, in the past year or so. And he does appear to prove some solidity. But looks like, in your book, this is not enough. Hm, I'll think about it.

Giri? Heh. Giri the (former) draw master. He need to win, you know, in order to get there. Well, he did show he can do it. Only that, uhm, not too often. Oh, he did also win one big tournament lately (forgot which one, but it doesn't matter) - or am I wrong? Giri. You don't seem to fancy his chances either. OK then, I'll take another consideration in his respect too. Giri. A funny guy, after all. Well, not quite always. But hey, who among us is always funny? Show me one.

Have a peaceful weekend.

Feb-17-20  Count Wedgemore: Good morning, my dear <moronovich>! You asked about 'The Night Ranger'. I think you meant 'The Night Manager'', which you recommended. Yes, now Elena and I have seen it, and such great actors! Hugh Laurie stole the show for me, though. He has been terrific in everything I've seen him in. Thanks so much for the recommendation.

I just read your candidates discussion and I agree with you guys about Carusna and Ding Liren being the two clear favorites. 80% chance that it will be one of those two sounds about right. But I agree with <virginmind> that Radjabov is a dark horse in the race. He seems to have found himself again, chess wise that is, over the last year or so. He is a very solid player, a really tough guy to beat. One question mark about him, though, is if his abysmal performance the last time he played in a candidates (London '13) will have a negative psychological impact on him.

And I too believe that Grischuk and Nepo are capable of fighting for the top spot.

This is going to be great. Can't wait!

  moronovich: Good evening dear <Count>!

I am very glad you and Elena enjoyed it so
much and it lived up to the hype ! And yes,Laurie was outstanding.Never seen him better and the whole plot was an oscar worthy IMO.Hannah and me were glued to the seats while it lasted :)

I´ll be back about the Candidates and can´t hardly wait too.Till then I´ll nurse the aftermath of a headache which is getting better by the hour (knock wood:).

moronovich: Good morning dear <morfishine> !

An interesting position ahead.
First thought:Nothing concrete, but g4 followed by Nf-h4 and Nef5 is progress for white and next on line is Nxd6 followed by Qf6 looks as a promising attack for white.

moronovich: Except from the fact, that after Nxd6 black has -Nf4 which may be a gamechanger.
Feb-21-20  morfishine: Good evening Dear <moronovich> I'm glad you enjoy this position, it was something I stumbled across

Its actually from a Chess960 game, I can give you the starting position if you like

moronovich: Good evening to you too Dear <morfishine> !

Oh it is a 960 position. And yes it would be interesting to see the starting position. The Rook on d1,the King on e1 and the Queen on f1 indicates it is a 960.

Feb-22-20  morfishine: Here's the position Dear <mornonovich> and the game below:

1. c4 c5 2. Nc2 Be5 3. Ng3 b6 4. d3 Bb7 5. f4 Bf6 6. e4 e5 7. Ne3 exf4 8. Rxf4 Ng6 9. Rxf6 gxf6 10. Ngf5 d6 11. Bc2 Nc7 12. Ba4+ Rd7 13. Bd2 Kd8 14. Bxd7 Kxd7 15. b3 Ne5 16. Qf1 Ne6 17. Bc3 Qg5 18. Bd2 Qh5 19. h3 Rg8 20. Nxd6 Kxd6 21. Qxf6 Qg5 22. Nf5+ Kd7 23. Bxg5 1-0

Of course, Black blundered, but that tends to happen in Chess960 at 3+8

Feb-26-20  morfishine: Good evening Dear <moronovich>, I was hoping the bookie would post a few bets from Aeroflot to tide us over til the Candidates, which is still quite a ways off....oh well, probably wouldn't matter too much if the pool is small

moronovich: Good morning to you dear <morfishine> !

Think you are right about the size of the pool,so we are obliged to hide the powder for the Candidates.I can hardly wait !

Have just seen the most amazing video.
About some young kids in this area, who
are training football early in the morning, before school. And to my big surprise it simply works. The kids dont mind rising early from bed and they love it.They enjoy having a great meal together with each other after the session and have much more energy for the school than normal.Simply brilliant.A win-win-win situation.!

All the best and may you enjoy your day !

Me too !

Mar-19-20  morfishine: Well Dear <moronovich> I hope you are enjoying the candidates and your popcorn too! Unfortunately for me, my Dentist strongly advised I stop eating popcorn because a kernel is what caused my chipped tooth. Luckily she's an artist and fixed the tooth perfectly, but alas, I don't know what I'll do without my seasoned, buttery popcorn! I guess its tortilla chips and guacamole

Hard to believe Ding lost his first two games
