| Apr-27-12 | | viking78: Arghh, so close to the full point today! Went to the Crafty link 7cman gave above and was surprised Black give up the Queen in 2 moves! It gives indeed a longer life to Black's defense, but after about 25 moves I ended up with 3 Queens, Rook and Bishop vs 2 Rooks and 2 Pawns, for a nice Rook checkmate which was a funny ending position where only you can go vs computers cause a real player gives up way before it. In conclusion, glad I found 30.Qd6+, followed bye 31.Rxf7 and 32.Rg1+, but I think today's puzzle was a bit easier that usual Fridays. Have a great weekend chess-friends! |

I got about most of the way but not enough to consider I solved it fully. Most difficult move to find IMO is 33 Rxf6, and of course realising ... Qxe3 is toothless. A very nice sequence by Vishy in this rapid play. |

Two important points in your brief verdict. <33. Rxf6+ most difficult move to find> and <Vishy did all this in rapid>. I guess you meant <31. Rxf7+> as <33. Rxf6> is plain enough. (If it is really <33. Rf6> it is because Vishy saw that Wely only has the <toothless 33...Qxe3>) It looks like me most days, you too miss the long distance cover provided by a somnolent B. And yes, isn't it amazing that Vishy found this neat sequence in <rapid>. I think he sees in 10 secs what I do in 10 minutes. This happened in 'Amber Rapid' 8 years ago. I recall he topped the 'Rapid' section there quite a few times. Hope he continues to retain the same reflexes. My wild guess is you didn't give this one much more than 5 minutes. Right? |

Kg7 was most likely, so then 31 Rxf7+ (the BN was pinned) would force the BK into the open on the g-file. What seemed hard to me, at least as I looked at the board on 30, was to play a non-check as the 4th in the sequence which gave up the WN. But yes, what would be difficult for me since it is beyond my calculation "comfort zone" would have been well within Vishy's range. Especially as B had nothing after 33 Rxf6. I think BK must have felt like Richard III at Bosworth Field, his horse too far away to be any help BTW, anyone know how strong 1450 is when converted to BCF grade? One of my opponents is that and he gave me a hell of a tough battle. How on earth can I think about beating an 1800 if I have so much trouble with someone <1500. And as for anyone >2000 .... |
