|Aug-13-17|| ||patzer2: Pretty easy Sunday (23...?) puzzle. I had no problem quickly finding the first three forcing moves 23...Rxe4! 24. Qxe4 d3 25. c3 bxc3 -+.|
The only difficulty I found was after 26. Rxd3 in deciding which of several winning moves to play.
The game line which skewers the King and wins a Rook after 26...c2+ 27. Kxc2 Qxb2+ 28. Kd1 Qb1+ 29. Kd2 Qxh1 -+ looked appealing.
However, even stronger is simply 26...Qxf2! -+ forcing mate in five or less moves. One pretty possibility is 26...Qxf2! 27. Kc1 Bh6+! 28. Rxh6 cxb2+! 29. Kb1 Qf1+ 30. Kc2 Qc1#.
P.S.: <Random Visitor> Thanks for the deep stockfish 8 analysis of the improvement 12. Bg5 ±. Just curious. What 8-core processor are you running?
I see at https://www.engadget.com/2017/08/10... that AMD has a 16-core Ryzen coming out this month, and that Intel plans to top that with an 18-core i9. For now I'm content with my 4-core i7-4790 running Stockfish 8 at 3.6 GHZ.
|Aug-13-17|| ||Cheapo by the Dozen: Remarkably easy as Sunday puzzles go.
As multiple people have already observed, finding the first three moves is easy, and after that many choices are good.
Black has a lethal discovered attack with ... d3, but to make it work he has to avert the queen exchange at f6. ... Rxe4 solves that problem, since White has no alternative to capture. Black will obviously pick up pawns for the exchange while pursuing a murderous attack, and White doesn't have any serious counterthreats.

|Aug-13-17|| ||RandomVisitor: <patzer2><Just curious. What 8-core processor are you running?>|
My desktop PC is an AMD, 8 true core, FX-8370 at 4.21 GHz running Windows 7 64-bit with 32GB installed RAM.
I bought the motherboard/processor on Amazon and assembled it myself.
And yes, I will be upgrading when the new processors come out.
|Aug-13-17|| ||patzer2: <RV> Thanks! I see the FX-8370 is quite affordable right now at https://www.amazon.com/AMD-FX-8370-... for $143.30.|
I tend to wait until new technology gets less expensive before buying. However, at this price for a decent 8-core processor, assembling your current system (which would apparently be an improvement over my 4th generation i7-4790 running at 3.6 GHZ on windows 10 Pro with 16 GB Ram) might be within my budget.

If you want to make it more challenging, trying making the Queen sacrifice work, which is how I started out:
If 23. Qf3 Rxe4 24. Qxe4 d3 25. c3 Qxc3 26. bxc3 bxc3+.
Now, if 27. Ka1 c3+ 28. Qd4/e5 BxQ#
If, on the other hand 27. Kc1, the attack fizzles out.
I analyzed that line first because it seems like the more "amazing, puzzle-like" solution, but these puzzles are always game-oriented.
|Aug-13-17|| ||Gregor Samsa Mendel: <FSR: Unless I'm missing something, I'm not sure how this is a Sunday puzzle.> I think CG puts in these easier Sunday puzzles every once in a while so that patzers like me will try solving all the Sunday puzzles on the off chance that it's one of these. I definitely felt a rush of satisfaction when I solved this, an actual Sunday Puzzle, although it was mixed with a feeling that it was a bit on the easy side.|

|Aug-13-17|| ||patzer2: <RV> Since you're in the market for a new chess processor for faster and better results using Chess analysis programs, I though you might be interested in Albert Silver's article "AMD Releases New Ryzen Computer" March 3, 2017 at http://en.chessbase.com/post/amd-re... which gives a speed processing benchmark (i.e. KNPS -- higher is better) for popular AMD and Intel Processors while running Stockfish and Komodo.|
Looks like they were particularly impressed with the 8-core AMD Ryzen 7 1800X CPU's performance as compared to the 8-core Intel i7-6900K CPU, especially when price is taken into consideration.

Black to play (23...?) "Insane"
I know I've seen this one in a book somewhere (or maybe a tactics program), so I can't take any credit. But I don't think it's so insane, I would play this without too much thought whether in a blitz game or a slow tournament game. Black gets a powerful attack on the dark squares at the cost of just an exchange. Note how much stronger Black's bishop is than White's, or either of his rooks for that matter!
Only way to keep the attack going, as White can't trade queens now. (Is there any other move to look at?)
24. Qxe4 d3 and the king hunt is on!
