Dec-13-08  Caissanist: 23-time Guatemalan champion. If that's not a record for national champions, it must be close.
Jul-21-10  wordfunph: <Caissanist> astounding record indeed --- 23-time Guatemalan Champion!

he turns 45 today and maybe still capable of extending his national record.

<Caissanist>,
Those 23 titles include 6 in a row from 1983-1988 and 15 in a row from 1993-2007.

Nov-24-12  Caissanist: According to chess-results.com he won this year's event as well, 2 1/2 points ahead of the second place finisher. It would seem that the only times he doesn't win his country's championship are when he doesn't play (he didn't last year) or when the event isn't held (as happened the year before).
Nov-24-12  Caissanist: The Guatemalan Sports Federation confirms that this is his 24th title: http://cdag.com.gt/wp-content/uploa....
Feb-05-13  Caissanist: It turns out that Wikipedia has a page specifically for world records in chess. The record for number of times winning a national championship had been listed as 20 (Ortvin Sarapu); Flores has obviously surpassed that, so I have updated that page, as well as this one, to cite Juarez as the record holder.
Dec-13-13  Caissanist: Juarez's winning streak finally ended this year, when he finished second in the national championship behind Winston Darwin Cu Hor .
Mar-26-15  Caissanist: Juarez won his 25th national title last November: http://cdag.com.gt/carlos-juarez-y-... .
Jan-10-16  Caissanist: Unfortunately Juarez was denied the opportunity to defend his title last year; the Guatemalan Chess Federation appears to have virtually ceased to function amidst a nasty internal power struggle.

Apr-03-20  Caissanist: Juarez wins his 28th title: https://www.guatemala.com/deportes/... .
Dec-05-22  Caissanist: Juarez bring home his 29th title: https://cdag.com.gt/2022/03/28/juar... .
Oct-31-23  Caissanist: Juarez won his 30th national title this year:
