PARIMARJAN NEGI (born Feb-09-1993, 32 years old) India [what is this?] Parimarjan Negi was born in New Delhi. He picked up the game of chess at the age of 4 and in 2002 won the Asian Under-10 Championship. He was third in the 2004 World U-12 Championship in Heraklio, Crete, and in July of 2005, he became the world's youngest International Master. Before his thirteenth birthday he made two grandmaster norms and, in June 2006, he made his third. By doing so, Negi, aged 13 years and 142 days, beat Magnus Carlsen record by becoming the second-youngest person in history to complete all the requirements for the grandmaster title. In 2008, Negi marked his improvement with joint first place at the Kaupthing Open in Luxembourg and clear first at the Philadelphia Open. He was runner-up behind Abhijeet Gupta in the World Junior Championship (2008) with 9.5/13. He qualified for the World Cup (2011) by winning Zonal 3.7, winning round one in a walkover as his opponent Vladimir Akopian was a last minute withdrawal because of health reasons. His opponent in the second round was Teimour Radjabov, the result being a win for the Azeri super-GM. In October 2011, Negi came equal 1st with 7.5/9 in the 15th International Bavarian Open. 2012 started with a good showing (7/10) in the Tradewise Gibraltar (2012), and although this was offset by a mediocre (4/9) at the Aeroflot Open (2012), he put in a strong performance at the 28th Cappelle-la-Grande (2012), coming 2nd on tiebreak behind winner Pentala Harikrishna with 7/9 and a 2699 TPR and then followed up with a par for rating 6/9 at the 14th Dubai Open (2012). Despite a last round loss in the Asian Continental Chess Championship (2012), Negi scored 7/9 and won the event, thereby qualifying for the World Cup (2013). He placed second with 7/9 at Leiden in July 2012 and represented India on board 3 at the Chess Olympiad (2012). He finished up 2012 at the 1st International GM Round Robin Chess Tournament where he scored a relatively rating-neutral 4/10 but started 2013 on an upbeat note by coming 2nd with 6.5/9 at the Baden Baden Open in February, a half point behind Etienne Bacrot. Then in March 2013, he placed =1st with 7/9 at the 29th Cappelle-la-Grande (2013), temporarily returning him to the top 100. In July-August 2013, Negi scored a stunning 9/10 to win the Politiken Cup (2013) outright, a point clear of Ivan Cheparinov and several other joint runners-up. At the 2013 World Cup, Negi lost his first round match to Ukrainian GM Yuriy Kryvoruchko and was eliminated from the tournament. Negi played board 1 for India in the Chess Olympiad (2014) played in Tromsø, and led his team to the upset of the Olympiad to win a bronze medal.
