Zhou Liran is the highest rated ten year old player in the world. His chess coaches include NM Robert N Guevara, SM Qibiao Wang, and currently IM Andranik Matikozian. He also received online coaching from Ukrainian IM Artiom Tsepotan.

Title award

Zhou Liran became a FIDE Candidate Master and a USCF National Master when he won the North American U10 Championship on 16 July 2017 at the age of 9 years 2 months and 22 days, breaking the record previously set by Christopher Yoo for the youngest ever USCF NM. (1)

Zhou Liran has to date won the North American U10 Championship and the World U10 Cadet Championship.

Tournaments

He started playing internationally rated chess on 6 June 2016 at the 9th New York International Open U2200 section, his first round opponent being Jonathan Pagan. His first win against a rated opponent came in the third round when he defeated Robert Cherubim. His first win against a titled opponent was against CM Aasa Dommalapatiat the 5th Cherry Blossom Classic held in Virginia USA in May 2017. He placed equal second at the Marshall August 2017 FIDE Weekend with 4/5, half a point behind IM Yury Lapshun. This, combined with his 4/6 result at the 47th Annual Continental Open a few weeks later earned him another 100 rating points. The latter result also pushed him to a USCF rating of over 2200 earning him the National Master title, the youngest to ever do so. In October 2017, Zhou was finished near the leader board at the 9th Annual Washington Chess Congress with a score of 5/7.

Rating and Ranking

As of July 2018, Zhou Liran's highest rating was 2214, by far the highest rating of any ten year old. If the category was official, he would be the world's #1 in the under 10 group.
