Roman Hernandez Onna was born in Santiago, Cuba. Awarded the IM title in 1975 and the GM title in 1978, he was Cuban champion in 1981-82. He also played on several Cuban Olympiad teams between 1970 and 1984. Hernandez is also a FIDE Trainer (2014).
