Feb-22-09  whiteshark: Wilhelm Ernst was born Aug 25, 1905 in Gelsenkirchen. He was one of Germany's most hopeful players during 30'/40'. He died July 23,1952 at the age of 48.

  GrahamClayton: Here is a nice tactic played by Ernst against Walter Loose at Hamburg in 1946:

Loose played 1...♖b2, and after 2.♕b2 ♗c3+, thought he had won the White Queen. But Ernst turned the tables with 3.♗d2, as 3...♗b2 4.♗a5 leaves Black a rook down. Black resigned.
