Jul-05-15 | | Pedro Fernandez: And a Terence Tao. |
Jul-05-15 | | Imran Iskandar: Are the games actually beginning two hours earlier? |
Jul-05-15 | | Mr 1100: <visayanbraindoctor: "... Fischer played stronger chess than Nakamur[a]...> What does that statement even mean? |
Jul-05-15 | | whiteshark: <Imran Iskandar> Yes, they are already underway http://chess24.com/en/watch/live-to... |

 | | Sally Simpson: Hi Appaz,
"Should be kept in mind as a general consideration, before rushing to judge any GM for statements taken out of context." Especially when the players are interviewed after a game. All it takes is one foolish thought, a slip of the tongue or a mistake in translation and it can follow you around forever. Carlsen's approach is to say nothing as he knows as World Champion every word will be reprinted and scrutinised. This silence, or none revealing comments have some calling him grumpy and a bad sportsman - he cannot win. Also the lads may not realise or understand that some of the players are very friendly with each other so banter between them is very often mistaken as a snide remark. The players are not trained how to handle the media. With some it comes natural, others not so. These days any clumsy comment thanks to the internet can go around the world within minutes. Any correction that follows is often ignored and in some cases, those with an axe to grind, ignore it deliberately. The Fischer 'Knight odd's' comment should just be shrugged off as a young lad being boastful. We have all said things like it. (those that say they have never boasted probably have nothing to boast about.) And anyway, go to the Fischer page...
Robert James Fischer
...look at the picture. He is offering the whole World Knight odds. The joke is on us. |

Jul-05-15 | | Imran Iskandar: Thanks <whiteshark>. |

Jul-05-15 | | john barleycorn: Evans Gambit accepted in Nisipeanu-Caruana. Great to see. |
Jul-05-15 | | john barleycorn: TImo, that's right from Nisipeanu "Sekt oder Selters" |
Jul-05-15 | | Pedro Fernandez: Hi <John>, Nisipeanu is brave opening 1.e4 vs Caruana. |
Jul-05-15 | | john barleycorn: yes <Pedro>. Dood to see you. Dortmund likes the brave ones. In the best scenario Nisipeanu wins and is clear first and in the worst scenario he is clear 3rd. |
Jul-05-15 | | john barleycorn: Commentator Delchev must have suffered a stroke or changes his wettened pants.
Not a single comment up to now. |
Jul-05-15 | | bobthebob: <Carlsen's approach is to say nothing>
Yes, Carlsen has a history of not saying anything.
Rolls eyes..
<The players are not trained how to handle the media.> Do you seriously believe that Carlsen has not had any media training? Seriously? |
Jul-05-15 | | epistle: Kramnik has a chance to tie Caruana here. |
Jul-05-15 | | Pedro Fernandez: Impressive!! 27...a5! by Caruana, and Stockfish did recommend 28.Nd4? (+0.40) and now 28...axb4!! (-2.42). Stockfish didn't see that move. Unbelievable! |
Jul-05-15 | | Marmot PFL: On low depth the computers often seem to undervalue passed pawns. Anyway it looked like white was in trouble whatever he played. The Evans Gambit had no surprise value today. |

Caruana to play Brilliant! |
Jul-05-15 | | john barleycorn: <tamar> in the position you gave it is white who is winning :-) |
Jul-05-15 | | Bassilyo: ...Nd6 looks like winning for black |
Jul-05-15 | | devere: Congratulations to Caruana on a brilliant performance. Respect to Nisipeanu for a very good tournament, and playing to win in the last round. He thought he might find Caruana unprepared for the Evans Gambit, but Fab was very well prepared. |
Jul-05-15 | | Bassilyo: ...Nd6 looks like winning for black |
Jul-05-15 | | Marmot PFL: <<tamar> in the position you gave it is white who is winning :-)> No, Nd6 and then b2. |
Jul-05-15
 | | Penguincw: Congrats to Caruana for winning Dortmund. After a 0.5/2 start, Caruana went on Sinquefield mode, winning 5 straight games (including with black against Kramnik). |
Jul-05-15 | | Marmot PFL: Strange to see 3 of the top 7 over age 40 while the rest are under 27. The peak age for chess is supposedly 30-35 yet that group has only Aronian and Grischuk in the top 10. |
Jul-05-15 | | john barleycorn: <Bassilyo: ...Nd6 looks like winning for black> Sorry guys, my mistake as I thought white was to move. |
Jul-05-15 | | bobthebob: Another tournament win by an American. 2015 is turning out to be quite the year. Congrats to Mr. Caruana! |
