MissScarlett: Ease up on <apexin>. As a Brit he undoubtedly thinks he's at the centre of the known Universe and that the topgraphical minutiae of the backwaters of Europe are no import.

MissScarlett: Based on the play so far, Nakamura did well to hide out in Las Vegas.
Oct-12-15  starry2013: I really don't see the point extrapolating this into some anti-UK prejudice.

chancho: Carlsen took Ivanchuk, chewed him, and spit him out.
Oct-12-15  DeepTrouble: The score for Bocharov seems incorrect. On the official site it says 8.5/12.
Oct-12-15  thegoodanarchist: If you look at the games from this tournament, are the ratings in the header the rapid ratings or the classical ratings?
Oct-12-15  thegoodanarchist: Follow up question to my previous post: And does anybody care about that?
Oct-12-15  Karne: Why is it usually the positional player who is the best at short time controls?
Oct-12-15  Kinghunt: <Why is it usually the positional player who is the best at short time controls?>

I would guess it's because the positional players simply <know> the best move intuitively. At their level, it's probably easier to quickly check the tactics than to quickly pick the best positional move assuming the tactics all work out.

chancho: Carlsen repeats as World Rapid Champion.
Oct-12-15  fgh: Great showing by Carlsen, finally establishing himself as the clear #1 in rapid ratings.

Seems like he and Kramnik were the only players who went through the tournament unscathed.

Oct-12-15  DeepTrouble: Magnus prepared for the tournament by sparring with Kramnik. Magnus revealed this on Norwegian TV, but Kramnik also revealed this to the Norwegian newspaper VG:

http://www.vg.no/sport/sjakk/carlse...

Oct-12-15  LucB: Congratulations to MC.. great result at +8!

Vishy had a good last 5 games; let's see if this gives him a boost for the blitz.. Go Anand!

MissScarlett: Nakamura is yellow....that's a figure of speech, by the way.

moronovich: <Karne: Why is it usually the positional player who is the best at short time controls?>

Intuition and pattern recognition works faster than calculation.

Oct-12-15  Sokrates: Fisky and others. I'm not a Norwegian but a Dane understands the language. Kramnik is quoted for saying this to "VG", Berlin:

"Magnus was the obvious favourite to win this. I am not the least surprised. We have trained a bit together before the championship and I knew how strong he was."

Oct-12-15  Sokrates: And huge congrats to Carlsen. He kept a cool head while facing many strong opponents.
Oct-12-15  starry2013: It's a shame he wasn't pushed more, he could win just through draws towards the end.
Oct-13-15  Wavy: Naka should have been here.
Oct-13-15  Pulo y Gata: Fantastic result by Magnus.
Oct-13-15  siggemannen: Impressive by Bocharov too!
Also, some other lower rated players over-performed nicely.
