Oct-13-07 | | s4life: <pawnofdoom: Wang Hao is slowing down. He just had a 9-move draw with George Meier. And it was all opening theory> After 3 wins in a row, he can take a rest... more so if it's with black. |
|
Oct-13-07 | | pawnofdoom: Three people tied for first now. Wang Hao, Ivan Popov, and Grigoryan Avetik. Adly lost again today. |
|
Oct-13-07 | | adantra: I don't think chinese are a small race, the tallest basketball player in the world is chinese. |

Oct-13-07 | | Strongest Force: Maybe Adly plays too much blitz-chess on the net and dont have enough energy for regular chess? ;) |

Oct-13-07 | | s4life: <Strongest Force: Maybe Adly plays too much blitz-chess on the net and dont have enough energy for regular chess? ;)> More like he's facing stronger rivals round after round. |

Oct-13-07 | | zanshin: <adantra: I don't think chinese are a small race, the tallest basketball player in the world is chinese.> When you have a population exceeding 1 billion, then you are going to have extremes. Consider the mean height and weight and Chinese (like other Asian races) will be smaller than Caucasian or Black. (for example, see http://www.halls.md/chart/men-heigh...) Don't point to one case to refute a general observation. |

Oct-14-07 | | Karpova: Popov is leading after round 11 with 8.5/11 followed by Meier, Hao and Adly with 8.0
Disappointing tournament for Stellwagen and Laznicka (both 6.5) so far |

Wow, tremendous comeback by Adly. Great clutch wins down the stretch, reminiscent of Dr. Lasker. He deserves to become the new World Junior Champion, the first from Africa I do believe that would make him. |
|
Oct-15-07 | | pawnofdoom: Adly is great at this. After losing his first game, he goes off to win 6 or 7 games in a row. After suffering another loss, he falls behind, gets a few draws, and is now back in first place! What a comeback! Meanwhile, I hope Wang Hao will suddenly decide to stop drawing his games and win. I really want a Chinese player to win this championship for once, and all Wang Hao has to do is win his next game, and that Adly and Popov don't. Unfortunately, Wang Hao has a game as black against 2nd seed Stellwagen, and it won't be an easy game. |

Probably either Adly or Popov will win their White game and that's all for Wang Hao's chances. Besides, the next best thing to a Chinese winning the World Junior Championship is an African (Egypt) winning it. :-) Go Adly!

Oct-15-07 | | Jim Bartle: Adly vs. Leko would be interesting. I guy who never draws against a guy who seems to draw all the time. |

Oct-16-07 | | Atkins: <Jim Bartle: Adly vs. Leko would be interesting. I guy who never draws against a guy who seems to draw all the time.> Mightbe interesting. Adly will learn how to draw... (I'm jocking) In fact I'm happy to see Adly fights for the title. Chess is really becoming international. |

Oct-16-07 | | Marvol: <Jim Bartle: Adly vs. Leko would be interesting. I guy who never draws against a guy who seems to draw all the time.> In the last WCCship, Leko drew 10 of his games, as did Anand, Kramnik and Gelfand, while Svidler even drew 11. In the candidates' matches he beat Gurevich +3 =1 and then Bareev +2 =3. In Dortmund Leko drew 6 of his 7 games, as did Alekseev, Anand (again), and Carlsen. In Morelia-Linares, he drew 10 of his 14 games, as many as Topalov (!), two <less> than Svidler (him again) and Aronian (!), and only one less than Anand (him again) and Ivanchuk. In the Amber blindfold section he drew 6 of 11, two less than Carlsen, one less than Svidler and Ivanchuk and as many as Gelfand; in the rapid section he drew only five games finishing third, drawing equal or less games than <everyone> except the bottom-three finishers Vallejo, Radjabov and van Wely. And he won the ACP rapid with overall stats of +6 =6, -1. Hardly stats that would qualify him for being very drawish compared to his peers. |
