Tata Steel Masters (2017) |
The 2017 Tata Steel Masters took place from 14-29 January. It was the 79th edition of the tournament; the format was a 14-player single round-robin featuring five top-10 players, including Magnus Carlsen and his previous challenger, Sergey Karjakin. Besides the traditional venue in Wijk aan Zee, the Netherlands, rounds were played in the Feyenoord Stadium in Rotterdam (19 January), and De Philharmonie in Haarlem (25 January). Time control: 100 minutes for 40 moves, followed by 50 more minutes for the next 20 moves and 15 more minutes for the rest of the game, with 30 seconds added per move from move 1. If two or more players tied for first place then a rapid or blitz playoff would be held, though the monetary prizes would be shared evenly. Chief organizer: Jeroen van den Berg. Chief arbiter: Pavel Votruba. Wesley So placed first with 9/13, a full point ahead of world champion Carlsen. Elo 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 0 1 2 3 4

Feb-24-17 | | blackdranzer: How can a mother and a kid have a difficult relationship is beyond me...considering so belongs to the east...why would a mother act like the way she acted ? It's not like so was just another amatuer |
Feb-24-17 | | blackdranzer: So is <ever ever > |
Feb-24-17 | | tuttifrutty: <So is ever ever > You are ever ever so misinformed. You're looking like a real <amatuer.> Lol a million times. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n2E... |

Feb-24-17 | | NaunsyamengPangarap: Colorful cast of characters, including <Viktorrero>, who seems to have a medical condition called Name Droppingitis. |
Feb-25-17 | | ChessWolf: thanks goodness Wesley wasn't affected by negative events in his life in the past..he followed the right tract and gotten his dreams...everyone got computer chess to work on with but Wesley has gotten better out of it, he's compatible with that kind of training...let's not make it messy by saying offensive things let's just go together and watch the unfolding of talents of current generation top chess players...I wonder what would talents such as Fischer's could achieve with some help from the computer? |
Feb-25-17 | | gokusano: I am optimistic you are an "optimist." |
Feb-25-17 | | ChessWolf: deep river runs quieter.. Wesley So just being humble coz he knows it all what his limits are, what he could still do, what are the tactics to be successful in such kind of field and competition, with high level talent and wise mind to know correct strategies to stay ahead on points against his fellow super talents..to dodge warring against political and influencial groups in chess world etc would really make him get there...he's smart not only in selecting the winning chess moves but also the moves to do outside the game and become a"cool-fellow" in chess world..backed with excellent results..the methods he adopted as guidelines for himself found to be correct..he's great in learning from previous mistakes |
Feb-25-17 | | ChessWolf: the Philippines amazingly breeds super talents in many sports including Chess, Boxing etc..although its sports government handles those talented athletes poorly and sometimes politicized, but still few were able to make it thru hardships and get the same freedom and support given to athletes of developed countries and only thru that would the full potential of a filipino talent would be realized. ..and there are still super talents here in the Philippines but the opportunity that they would be able to explore their gifts is hard to find..would there be improvements in the Philippine sports then that would be the time we would see many pinoys vie for the top echelons...well Wesley could contribute great ideas to amend the poor ways that straggled pinoy athletes for a long time..he has proven himself, it would be possible that he could greatly help..if only they got open mind to allow changes for the good of pinoy talents in all fields not only sports |
Feb-25-17 | | chessalem: <..if only they got open mind> Well, Pichay said it was because of him that Wesley became no. 2..soon to be no. 1. How open can you get? His skull cracked and most of his brains that stored factual memories spilled out of the opening leaving only that part that controls fantasy and imagination. |
Feb-25-17 | | ChessWolf: yap, some politicians here really think that we Pinoys are dumb, they think that we couldn't see beyond their schemes...only that we tend not to fight it back ..we were cultured to be tolerant and just let go of the injustices in the past.. |
Feb-25-17 | | not not: You Pinoys have guns, shoot each other in road rage. Be like Americans and kill your president at least once. Or twice. |
Feb-26-17 | | NaunsyamengPangarap: <Wordfunph:Equating few lucky tournament wins with "proving them wrong" is the height of arrogance.> You are missing the point. The point is, a patzer like you should not be critiquing a super GM's game. Here it is again, you as white, showcasing your talent (or more accurately, the lack of it), for the chess world to see. E Beronio vs P Bersamina, 2015 In fairness to you, I think you are qualified to critique Sugardom's fashion sense: https://i.imgflip.com/o9zrg.jpg |

Feb-26-17 | | NaunsyamengPangarap: <Gokusano:I am optimistic you are an "optimist."> Congrats to Gokusano on his promotion to Senior Grammar Police. His body of work certainly justifies it.
LOL!!!! Thanks, Goku..Good laugh |

hahaha .> |

Mar-04-17 | | Pulo y Gata: This was how it was called back then:

Mar-07-17 | | tuttifrutty: <<tutti> is from the east ...> Yes Sir, I am from the east alright...it was evident from the fact that I was in the knowledge in the forthcoming of Wesley...the chess messiah, and that I knew of his advent by the brilliant games he displayed in the very eyes of believers and non believers alike...and that Sir is the truth and nothing but the.... |

So, Kramnik, Karjakin, Mamedyarov, Radjabov, Adams, Harikrishna, Eljanov, Wojtaszek, Topalov>Hmmmmm.....Where the heck is Magnus??? Is he avoiding Wesley? You tell me. |
Mar-16-17 | | chessalem: < Mr.Prospero Pichay, who has helped me a lot> now it can be told...straight from the veggies mouth...his past actions were intended for his own glorification...now he claims credit for Wesley's no. 2 position in the world...he may be right after all...wesley left NCFP because of his abandonment of Wesley at the time he needed him most...(he only needs to write a letter of recommendation to Babalu to officially recognize Wesley's universiade exploit...which he did not..the main reason why Wesley moved to the USCF...the change of habitat did well to catapult Wesley to no. 2 spot...Kudos to pichay for his non action...he deserves a medal- i.e. a rope to hang around his neck. In other news, Wesley scored 4-0 against his former Webster teammates to move his team to the semi finals of the pro chess league...See his games here:https://www.chess.com/member/gmwesl... Mar-16-17 | | cro777: Will Wesley So really shine this year?
According to Frank 'Boy' Pestaño, "most experts don't expect Wesley So to continue his unprecedented no loss performance in 60 games against elite players this year". http://www.sunstar.com.ph/cebu/spor... |
