Apr-11-12 | | MORPHYEUS: Whether in Beijing, Guangzhou or Qingdao, Chinese cuisine tastes heavenly... |
Apr-11-12 | | Layson: <Well, this might be the "acid test". In western countries you don't get jailed for demonstarting peacefully. You do have to move if the police tell you to not gather on someone else's property, but there are no laws in the west about meeting with other peoples and disseminating political information and expressing one's opionions.> It's not all that clear cut really. During the G20 in Toronto, young protestors were arrested as they were in pyjamas sleeping in a gymnasium, amongst others. Sure they were released afterwards, without any charges ever being laid on them. But it would be easy for any media source in the world to gard that story and spin it horribly... they'd be right, but still. |

 | | HeMateMe: The real problem in some of the more autocratic governments is that the ruling regime will not allow individuals to form their own political parties. Or, the balloting is full of fraud, as is what happened in the last days of Slobo Milosevic in Yugoslavia. In the particular case of China, you simply can't start your own party there, and run for election to represent a group of people or area. If you do, you get locked up or sent into exile. That is the key difference between countries like China, Syria, Belarus, and the USA and England. |
Apr-11-12 | | GITorquemada: Chinese political system is therefore better than USA and England because it is more peaceful. Many political parties result to frequent fightings, deceit and corruption. Chinese cooking involves harmony of the yin and yang. That's why it's the best in the world. |

Apr-11-12
 | | HeMateMe: So you are against the right to vote for those who will represent you in government? |
Apr-11-12 | | Layson: Oh! There's no question that the ideal government is that formed by a benevolent and competent dictator, surrounded by a group of trusted aides who are close to the population and tuned to their needs. No time lost squabling and fighting. No need to obey the whims of the population who doesn't understand that what's best for them (free services, no taxes, strong education and health care) isn't something realist. No demagogy performed solely for the purpose of elections. However, if you do come across this benevolant dictator, please let me know. |
Apr-11-12 | | GITorquemada: And who said that voting or right to vote is necessary for a happy country? That's only a baseless assumption of the west. Fine cuisine and good food, however, make a happy country. |
Apr-11-12 | | GITorquemada: Choosing leaders by so called democratic process is just an illusion and hypocrisy. Candidates just deceive, pay, buy, manipulate their way into office. That's why for example in the USA they have the history of electing moronic presidents, but in China the leaders are mostly true great men. |
Apr-11-12 | | GITorquemada: The true measure of the greatness of a country and its people is its cuisine. France and China top them all. And maybe Spain too. |
Apr-11-12 | | Ladolcevita: Although I said I wouldnt comment upon such issues furthermore,I might hope one do not mistake my point... Well, what I said before is mainly about culture, like ancient Chinese culture,a general root of Chinese people that would sometimes reveal and affect the Chinese in a cultural way.But nowadays China has been already westernized to some extent,so democracy is likely to be demanded and advocated both by the crowd and the government.Just last month,I have heard our Premier Wen declaring in public that nothing would stop the road to democracy in China. And I have already posted some comments upon democracy on Yifan's page to <HeMateMe>:Yifan Hou One shall see that I'm not someone affirming that democracy is not as good as dicatorship, absolutely not, what I really affirm is that perhaps one should realize the diversity of culture in the world, and thus would not mistake other nations's realities and their diverse minds in a regretful way.Should one place oneself in that particular country, one would find many of the curious questions and doubts and accusations not very respectful.Well,if western world really care about a third world country where two parties are fighting or waging wars, would they still enter there and support one of them and send weapons suchlike?Indeed,it might sound helpful and justice, but do the western world really care why that country is split apart, why the people there fighting or what they really need, instead of just advocating democracy and neglecting all the culture and history over there?Isnt there a little possibility that those countries might meet democracy in some later days? Why the western world just demand them without any sense of local culture, history and time? Well, what I said is merely some personal view, and to be frank,it is because I come to note that a lot of western people are completely unaware of the other parts of the world in a cultural way so that I write these posts in a fashion that perhaps sounds a little biased.
Anyway I hope this would be my last comment upon these issues here, after all it is chessgames.com,right? |

 | | HeMateMe: Great men? Mao was a mass murderer, as was Stalin. Are they worse than the Bush family or the Kennedy family? I would think so. |
Apr-11-12 | | Ladolcevita: <HeMateMe>
My emphasis is upon those posts about democracy, not you.You dont have to direct people's attention in haste to some question of wording...
Clearly one has a divided view upon Chairman Mao,and I called them great figures, well,it might be all about wording, because in Chinese,we call all the names in history book great figures..."great"could be in a negative way or positive way, maybe it's not the correct usage of "great"...you see I'm not English speaker, how many times should I remind you?One shall read between lines, and then one knows exactly what another means!
Well,I shall defintely end all these posts here in any event. |

 | | WannaBe: Memo to self, send <HeMateMe> to re-education camp. =) |
Apr-11-12 | | MORPHYEUS: Democracy sucks... |
Apr-11-12 | | King Death: I agree with <twinlark> this has gotten way out of hand and I've tried to move it to the Rogoff page. Anybody care to join me? |
Apr-11-12
 | | HeMateMe: wannabe--someone above was saying that "all the past leaders of China were great men." I though a little perspective was needed. Unless of course, you personally don't believe that Mao and Stalin murdered millions, and that it is all some sort of rumour gone viral... |
Apr-11-12
 | | WannaBe: Of course they didn't, they just gave out the orders... Sheeesh! =) My previous post was also tongue-in-cheek. |
Apr-11-12 | | Thanh Phan: Wonder how many of these games will become future "Game of the day" or future "Today's puzzle" games |
Apr-11-12 | | kardopov: <Democracy sucks...> I believe it's the other way around. Abuses by the people is it. In any form, abuse and greed are the things that make a government worse. |
Apr-12-12 | | drik: <twinlark: <IF information was what you really wanted.>
One wonders.>
drik: <Or one can simply ask.> <twinlark: One might already know.> Then one wasn't wondering - was one? |
Apr-12-12 | | drik: <Appaz: I was talking about your <style>, not your ethnicity. Your profile says you are a "UK player".>
My style? Don't peg me as 'Western', just because my English is fluent. London is famously cosmopolitan - don't confuse my location, with my identity. <Could you please supply a link to where he says so?> Look on page 6 -
<Apr-09-12 Ladolcevita: <twinlark> Thank you for your very kind support:)
.....
<vsaluki><drik> It's late night here,so I have to sign off.But I will make a list for you two:4.Please do not always quote the dark things about China, when you are <merely a westerner>,who should really take care of western world in the first place.> Even though I do not consider myself 'Western' - I take exception to being talked down to, by those who choose evasion over debate. |
Apr-12-12 | | twinlark: <Then one wasn't wondering - was one?> Not really, it was just a rhetorical device. It's obvious what you're about. |
Apr-12-12 | | Ladolcevita: Ok,this would really be my last post about these issues here...
<drik>
I said<merely a westerner>WHEN a westerner is talking about China in an assertive fashion,is this offensive?I'm also<merely a Chinese>when talking about western world. So that's why I put forward my view about the western world in a moderate fashion for I'm<merely a Chinese>,an outsider.Anyway I speak English and you dont speak Chinese,so maybe I should have a little better understanding upon the topics we are talking about. Last but not least is my sincere apology to those who might have been offended in some measure by my posts, and I would not comment here furthermore. |
Apr-12-12 | | twinlark: <Ladolcevita>
Well, you didn't offend most of us, and I can't see why anyone would be. But I'd like to make a suggestion in case of any further responses to your comments. If you want to write further responses, there is a lively site for all manner of non-chess discussion, mainly political, at the Kenneth Rogoff page. This page should be left to discuss chess and it would be better not to strain the exemplary forbearance of chessgames.com administrators. |
